I also found that introducing codec packs (including k-lite which I would swear by for all other playback uses) introduced stability issues (it was explained to me that the codecs tend to focus only on the decoding and are not as mature on the encoding side), equally .AVI files tended to work provided that they were 'proper' AVI files rather than one of the more modern codecs that shared the extension.

Check to see if they are using .MP3s, if they are, try re-encoding them as .WMA or .WAV and try again , it worked with a few of our students.

With a new build looming we have the opportunity to take a fresh look at, and make a fresh start with Asset Management. We're looking at software solutions to make this easier, but we're also looking at what methods people have used successfully in the past, wish that they had tried earlier, or wished that they had the chance to start afresh with. So, what do people do, what labels/tags work? are bar codes worth it? what has gone wrong for you? how time consuming is it? do you use software to track your assets? do you use asset management in conjunction with other systems? I have a Lian-Li model (the predecessor to Kustom PCs Lian Li V351B MicroATX Cube Case Black), I had to dremel out the drive cage to fit a long graphics card but since the drive bay is through and through to both side and you can only ever use one side at a time it didn't matter.

The thing I admire from that post is that your users seem to plan ahead for their absence and the time when you will have time to work on it, we had two weeks over the winter break which is perfect for getting jobs out if the way, but no one asked us to do anything for them, but on the first day back there were dozens of rush jobs which could have easily been done in the previous two weeks if they had been requested. Is the PXE booting issue everywhere or localised, we discovered that PXE booting doesn't work over ports where tree spanning was enabled because the PXE boot timed out before the tree spanning sorted itself out, only a matter of seconds. but just long enough. We ensured that it was only enabled on the ports where it was necessary (where the redundant links were connected) and all was well with the world again

We have a trolley of 15 wireless laptops to be used in a single room, in an areas already saturated with 2.4GHz access points ... these laptops will operate in 5GHz N and so I'm looking for a single reasonably priced (since the entire site is being levelled in 7 months time) wireless access point up to the task of supporting these 15 localised machines ... thoughts please? Our Pebble seems to be holding up well ... only done 500 - 600 in a relatively short period of time, but it has only jammed once and only snapped two ribbons, both probably our fault rather than the machine

Thank you for the counselling, I installed .NET 3.5 from an RM Package and then .NET 4.0 and have now got the option to allow ASP.NET v4.0.30319. For anyone else who cannot see "Application Pools" on an RM Server in IIS 6.0, the following link ... Missing Application Pool component in IIS6 : The Official Microsoft IIS Site ... provided some insight. This initial test phase will be on an RM server solely because we know that there is an external IP address, FQDN, and the routing works for EasyLink ... I'm hoping that once we've proved that it works we'll repeat the process on another server and set up external routing to it properly. Thanks for the timely warning, but I'm hoping that it will only be for a short while until I've practiced the installation and configuration.

Thank you, a good suggestion, I had tried using the RM distributed versions, but I haven't checked that 2.0 and 3.5 are installed correctly first ... I'll double check that and get back to this thread shortly.

Has anyone else had any difficulties installing .NET 4.0, it appears to install without error, various utilities report that it is present and correct, but when I look in the 'web service extensions' it doesn't show. I have reinstalled a couple of times and re-downloaded the installation files in case they were corrupt. Has anyone had a similar experience or feel they are able to offer any insight/solutions?

Was thinking of getting a case and building my own, Kustom PCs Windows Home Server Cases , had a few options, but my personal favourite at the moment is ... Kustom PCs Lian Li PC&#45Q25B Black Mini ITX Case , a few nice features and just enough internal drive space to accommodate what an ITX motherboard would normally be able to support (four to six) ... not cheap, but it's tidy, anonymous and suits my purpose.

Just checking, we had something similar which uses Cat5 as point to point connection and someone in a moment of less that perfectly clear thought tried to pass it through the switch and with it not being an IP device this failed.

When looking at applicants for an ICT Technician's position I generally disregard anything that has GCSE, BTEC and ICT in the course title, they're worthless to us, I look for evidence of skills through their personal statement, ongoing professional development, and qualifications like a good level of English both as a grade and demonstrated in the CV and covering letter.

Following the instructions for installing network clients I included the port used in the illustration with the IP as a switch with the installer ... but when I launched the program it balked at it ... so I just used the regular IP without the port and it carried on fine. Probabaly not relevant, but it may help someone
