So the accounts could be [email protected], without having to use @gmail.com and without affecting the operation of the [email protected] e-Mail address on our Exchange server?

We have been asked to use App Inventor for a controlled assessment task which requires logging in with a Google account, we have a few concerns that I'm hoping EduGeek members who are existing Google Apps for Education users might be able to offer insight into. Is it possible to create school accounts which don't have an associated GMail account or take over our existing Domain? Is it possible to allow access to only those accounts from inside the Academy building and refuse logins for other Google accounts? Is it possible to restrict access by the school Google accounts by time, or easily turn them on and off at will easily, or restrict them from logging in at home (controlled assessment rules)?

It may seem obvious to many, but I just thought that I'd add it here, if your clients machines running the Test Player can't talk to the Invigilator machine (in particular the tests when you launch the player) double check the DNS entry is correct for the Invigilator machine. We're probably unusual in having a system whereby a client will pick up a quarantine address and then authenticate using 802.1x to get a proper address, and for one reason or another some of our DNS entries retain the quarantine address and don't update it resulting in a DNS entry with an invalid IP address. [discovered after installing, uninstalled, reinstalling messing around with client firewalls and all manner of other things]

SMARTboards don't seem to have a directly interact-able with service, this running in a login script seems to do the job

We have a mechanism by which all of our wired and wireless machines authenticate against AD via 802.1x in order to be allocated an IP range appropriate to its location, anything that fails this authentication will be assigned an IP address in the Quarantine VLAN and the associated DHCP Range with access to a limited number of machines required for rebuilds and the like. Therefore any machine that is powering on will briefly go through a stage where they are allocated a quarantine address, only for it to be replaced a few seconds later with a valid IP from the range for the location in which the switch resides. The behaviour we are observing is that the DNS entry for a machine is retaining the Quarantine VLAN address not the address it ultimately ends up using. As you can imagine this causes some issues. Has anyone got any thoughts on what might be happening, I have tried a number of things including the reduction of lease times and scavenging to ensure that the address come back into circulation again and get re-assigned the correct IP with limited success.

Still an issue, has anyone else observed the same symptoms?

I was surprised to find that a snapshot in VMWare doesn't correspond with what most people would consider a snapshot in any other IT related field. We had take snapshots of all our running machines in the belief that they were a image of a machine in a particular state at a particular point in time, a backup to all intents and purposes ... this is not the case. They are a live entity which steadily grow over time with the changes made to the machine which on a machine with a lot of activity can very quickly eat up your SAN storage space. We ended up with some snapshots that were many times the size of the original disks and memory and growing until machines stopped functioning due to lack of disk space.

We are trying to reach an ITV clip that was broadcast last night, it asks you to register/login which it accepts gracefully, however the next stage asks for location, which it attempts to find and then defaults to asking for a post code, which we provide and it fails with the message "Sorry, something went wrong". This occurs in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Nothing is showing as being filtered (Smoothwall), all the web traffic from the user shows result codes 200 which suggest that the pages are being served up, however if we bypass the proxy the site works. We use Impero to kill off pulsar and prevent its relaunch which works quite well. The remainder are virtualised and so we kick them out and set the servers to not let anyone back in again.

We had exceptional logins with SCCM wanting to carry out checks after nasty shut downs, it closed down the login service while it did its checks before resuming normal operation after around fifteen minutes ... any similarities?

I vaguely recall seeing a thread about turning off the checking for updates during install which might address this issue? Updates after that are handled through GPOs, but there is something you can do during the initial install.

SIMS.net to Exchange - nb development ... from the man that brought you HAP! Not tested, but it prompted me to look around again since nothing has come out of the first project.
