  1. Can anyone help? I can access my Hikvision NVR and login to it but can’t see any video. It’s just grey boxes where there is meant to be images. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: - Tried all major browsers. Also tried it in Pale Moon. Tried on both PC and Mac. No joy. Tried installing web components plugin but still get grey box. - Tried putting NVR IP address in trusted sites and IE comparability mode. Didn’t work. - Thought it maybe as I’m going via a 2nd router but that didn’t solve it, even when hooked up directly to same router. So I can access the settings but no video feed. Just grey boxes. I know it works as I can use the app. Any ideas? Tanks.
  2. Thanks everyone. Ive just been experimenting with it. For some reason I seem to be able to add the HyperV servers and it goes off and adds the Veeam files to those servers and adds Firewall rules. However when I go to start a new backup job, I input the servers IP address, get to the credetials bit, and then it fails saying either wrong server name or wrong credentials, yet these are the credentials I used earlier to add Veeam to the clients. Veeam is sitting on the host non-domain machine and I want to backup it's hyper V servers. Where am I going wrong? Thanks for the help.
  3. I’m setting up my group policies to set a custom Windows lock screen but just wondered what others have set their background picture resolution to? We have a mixture of 13” laptops and then mostly 65” Interactive TV computer screens. What sizes have you used? Many thanks.
  4. Thanks. Total distance will only be 15 metres. These are the ones I have: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inline-Coupler-BENFEI-Ethernet-Female/dp/B07X6KW7WK/
  5. Not too worried about the connection getting wet as will be indoors but more about the power going through it. I'm using outdoor rated CAT6 as the cable goes partly outside but just wondered how the coupler will affect performance or be ok with power through it.
  6. Thanks, the connection will be inside.
  7. If they are VM's then just make regular backups of the VM's. You won't need a backup DC unless you really cant afford to be down for a few hours.
  8. Hi everyone, Does anyone know if it is fine to use a RJ45 Female to Female Coupler for joining two CAT6 Ethernet wires when using POE? My CCTV uses POE to power the cameras and one of the cables is about 5 meters too short so was thinking of just adding a coupler....But obviously dont want any fire risks, etc. Thanks all.
  9. So I hear everyone raving on about Veeam. I've got the free edition so there are bound to be some limitations. Those of you who use the free edition... Can I backup my 2 HyperV VM's and host using Veeam? Is it quite straight forward? many thanks, Have a good weekend.
  10. Hi everyone, Thought I would give you a follow up on this one... Some of my GPO's don't need anything else to be applied however the Proxy one needed me to add Authenticated users before it would apply it. Is this normal? Anyway it is all working now so happy days.
  11. What sort of laptops? Mosyle is for Apple products only. If Windows laptops on a domain then you would be better off setting things up via Group Policy. If it is only the iPads you need to configure then you won't need to use the paid version and can get away with using the free Mosyle Manager. You will need a Mac with Apple Configurator to initially wipe and prep the iPads then use Mosyle to do the rest.
  12. Hi everyone. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I can’t get the proxy set on my Windows 10 machines via GPO. I have tried two different ways and still not working. Currently I have it set as registry entries in user configuration, Windows settings and registry. I tried enabling the GPO in case another is over ruling it but it didn’t help. As soon as I login to my client machines, no proxy. Any ideas? Thanks.
  13. We purchased cheap in ear headphones and gave them free to all the students. Since they were now their own they cared for them a lot better and it was their responsability then to turn up to lessons with them.
  14. Thankyou. That’s great. The last question I have is where I set proxy settings? There seems to be various places. I’m looking to set the proxy for everyone that logs on. Once again. Many thanks for the help.
  15. Hi everyone, What would be the best way to get a custom background for the Windows start screen (currently that cave picture) and the lock screen? I see various places to do this in Global policy but which is the right place to do it? many thanks.
  16. Since money would be no object... - Everything in the cloud, get rid of servers and anything that can fail. - All staff issued with new laptops. We currently have staff here with 5yr old laptops still if not older!
  17. If you want to make it look like a nice gift for staff to enjoy, then I'd get them all a £10 Amazon voucher.
  18. Bar installed in the staff room with free flowing alcohol on tap during lunch times. Afternoons would fly by.
  19. Staff fry-up breakfast every Friday
  20. That does make sense. I'll go and give it a go. Thankyou.
  21. Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction as my brain is frazzled.... Setup is as follows...... Home Sky router with Wireless devices connected to it. I then have an Ubiquiti Edge router in one of the Sky routers LAN ports. This is configured with several seperate subnets on each port. My objective is to stop devices on each router from seeing each other. From a device on the Sky router things work as intended as in I cant see devices on the Edge's subnets. If however I have a device connected to the Edge router then I can ping and see any device on the Sky router. I assume this is becuase the Edge router can route everything through to allow Internet access via the Sky router but is there a firewall rule somewhere I've missed that will stop devices on the Edge router seeing those on the Sky router yet still let them access the Internet? Or do I need to basically abandon that idea and use the Sky router as simply the net connection and stick a Wireless access point on one of the other Edge routers LAN ports and join my devices to that since those ports are already on different subnets amd camnt see each other? Thanks.
  22. Ive not seen an Economy7 tariff in a long time. Luckily the garage walls have been plaster boarded up so some sort of insulation. Tumble dryer in there now (don't ask how that got into the study) and that will act as a sort of heater too. Think I'l check out the oil heaters this weekend.
  23. Thanks everyone. Some good info here. The oil radiator route seems promising. I'd love a log burner but slightly expensive and room not that big for it.
  24. Hi all, I wondered if anyone could reccommend an energy efficient heater? I've converted my garage into a study but there is no central heating and it gets freezing in there. Anything that heats will use a lot of electricity so looking at something cost effective? It wont be on all the time but only when I'm in there and its not a big room. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
