EduGeek Classroom Control Toolbar (ECC) First Look
ICTNUT replied to ICTNUT's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Exactly that is it, further testing will need to be done on this very thing. What I do know is that by default group policy refresh happens every 90 mins with a randomisation of period of between 0 mins and 24 hours so in theory it should not really come into play given the length of a normal lesson. -

Testing so far shows no restart required but this will need further testing in school once GPOs have been applied and restrictions put in place. -

Supports IE and Firefox at the moment and simply updates the proxy settings by adding 127.0.0.1 and port 1 for each of the browers. -

You can turn each of the options on or off, by default all are on but through a configuration file you can change that. Just a note withregard to changing passwords you will need to delegate permssions to staff that you wish to allow to change passwords and you set the base OU at which the search is started, so if you have a students OU set the base to the and no other user (staff or otherwise) can have thier passwords changed. -

It sure can, you just need to select an individual pc in that room and away you go. Its a simple text file with one pc name or IP per line, this way you can deploy the toolbar to a room with only that room list available. This will stop people doing stuff in other rooms, but for an admin you can have the full list of rooms All that is required is .Net 2.0 on each PC you wish to run this one, the app itself is lightweight coming in at 264k. The installer will check if you have the correct framework and if not propmt you to install it. Fixing now...... -
Hi All, Well now that the conf is over and after speaking with a few people down there including a long conversation with Dos_Box I have come up with a new Classroom Control Toolbar for Teachers, yes thats right Teachers. What does it do I hear you all cry, well..... 1 - Allows Staff to turn on or off the internet on a classroom by classroom or PC by PC basis 2 - Allows delegated staff to change and /or force change students passwords 3 - Allows staff to logoff, restart, or shutdown whole classrooms or individual PCs in a given classrom What does it look like I hear youall shout, well here are a couple of teaser screenshots..... Toolbar: http://www.opsoftware.net/ecc/toolbar.gif Turn Internet On: http://www.opsoftware.net/ecc/interneton.gif Change Password 1: http://www.opsoftware.net/ecc/password1.gif Change Password 2: http://www.opsoftware.net/ecc/password2.gif About: http://www.opsoftware.net/ecc/about.gif Where can we get it? It will be released in the coming week and most likely through the edugeek projects site but I will post an update here once it is out. Just looking for feedback at the moment

The only time I have seen this is when the storage device (hard drives) have not been recognised. In theory VMWare's NIC drivers are recognised by most OS's but I do remember an similar error to this when I VM'd the first release of Server 2008 RC but once MS had a general release I got it off TechNet and strangely it worked.

Its a requirement of the Asset Management addon

Well there are a few things youneed to look at: 1 - you need to have a method of uploading the photo and storing it, do this in a folder and have a colum in your product table with the path to the photo NEVER store the photo in the database it slows the whole thing right down. 2 - You will be looking at having a table for the items, a table for suppliers linked to your items. 3 - you are going to need a way to administer the database base, I would not advise editing the database directly, some sort of admin area to add all the details. 4 - What programming langauge are you going to use ASP or PHP? 5 - If it is going to be published on the intranet do you want all to have access or is it restricted? That should keep you going for a while, shout if you need anymore help.

Hi All, As some of you may know plexer is one of my BETA testers and he has just brought this to my attention, it is our intention to have a colour coded call board with him to test by this weekend. It will be a simple display screen that can be used to project up onto a wall ir displayed on a monitor that will be colour coded as suggested by the OP. It will not require authentication nor will it do anything other than display the current call load with a few other stats possibly. Those of you that are already using MLH then you will get this at the end of may with the next release. Any questions do ask

Looks like an IBM/Lenovo laptop, they use F10 or F11 at start to access the revovery manager which will restore it back to factory default image for you. The error is an iaccessable boot device and from the google search results seems to be driver issues.

Sorry that I am coming to this late but I am sorry mate if a host as me to pay for a secure server ON TOP of what I pay monthly I would walk away. I would expect the server (dedicated or VPS) to be secure from the point I got it, now there are things such as SLA's and non managed servers in that from this point onwards its down to you but the least they could do is give you a secure server in the first place. Not good if you ask me.

Last time I saw this was that the attachment contained images that were linked from the web and our proxy/content filter (linux) was prompting user to get content from the web.

There are many reasons to have a helpdesk :.... If you are working a busy and demanding school and lots of jobs are coming how do you track where you are with each one, how do you prioratise the more urgent over the silly "i would like it if...." How do you show management just how busy you are? how do you identify the need for user training? A decent helpdesk will do this and much much more, also having a standards compliant, FITS or ITIL, helpdesk will help you to achieve a smarter, responsive, and respected support department while at the same time promoting more happier and helpfull teaching staff. You may laugh but I have seen this in many schools the before and after with staff seeming to be much happier as requests for help are being responded to much more efficently and with quicker resolution as you can indeed build up a working knowledge base that staff and support staff can use. Self help is a wonderfull tool but remeber not all staff will come round to using a helpdesk from the start and it does take time but when they do, it just works. Just remember to get the one thats right for you. Hope this helps

I agree with synack, you really don't want anyone other than the server admin to have desktop access, if all they are doing is editing web pages then FTP is the perfect way forward as you can restrict them to only the folders they need access to and is a low security risk. This should help you out: How To Set Up an FTP Server in Windows Server 2003 And this : How To Limit Access to a FTP Site in Windows Server 2003
