    Macs for Music

We have eMacs which are 4/5 yrs old now, with Sibelius 5 and GarageBand installed. The machines are still working good and very stable. We are planning to change it to iMacs in a year or two depending on the budget.
  2. Can this be applied on any USB drive? Thanks.
  3. Its a good idea, thank you. I will try to find one or do you have one to recommend?
  4. Since we are a British Int'l School, most of our teachers are Brits but our support staff came from many different countries. Our School purchasing dept purchased almost the same kind of stuff from stationaries to cleaning materials. A British teacher will request some kind of a stationary and the same kind of stationary was ordered also by a non British support staff but it was named it differently. Our purchaser who is American always get confused and most of time buy different kind of stationary. Now our SMT tasked me to create a database for the Purchasing Dept which will solve this problem. It has to contain a photo for each item and the detailed description with all the names it can be called and must be searchable either by description or name. The database will be published on the intranet and it has to contain a search bar, for searching the item. I know only MS Access but it has been a long time since I created a database. Does anyone has a suggestion on how to tackle this project? Or is there any existing database of the same kind you can recommend? Thanks in advance.
  5. If SMT are forcing 2k3 then I suggest start with R2 coz it has the disk quota capabilities but I will recommend 2k8 if possible. If you have load of data to start with then perhaps you have to consider expansion drives or a SAN or NAS. Today, students and staff data includes all multimedia which can grow fast. In our school every end of term we ask staff and students to move all mutlimedia files from their home drives to any external drives. Single domain is a good idea since it's easy to manage and control. Just setup different OUs for users and computers. I suggest a different OU staff, perhaps by department and for every Year group for students and create/attach GPO's on each. Also create GPOs for computers. For usernames, I suggest using or vice versa for staff. For students usernames, there is a big discussion on that, so I leave it to you to decide. Just make sure you don't have to create student usernames every year when they move up.
  6. We're using SSL port to access OWA and it's working fine here with FireFoxv and Camino. We have a lot of users using Mac and I never heard a complain of OWA not working with Safari.
  7. Congratulations!
  8. Hi Rob! How are you doing in Kuwait! It's good to see you here. Arthur
  9. Ashok is right, it should have been the Client IP of the user running the report.
  10. All our ICT Teachers/support and SMT have a read/write access to all students home drives. The rest of the staff have read-only access. The rest of the staff used the shared drive created for Teachers to post and student to read only.
  11. We had similar situation before and after hours of troubleshooting we found out that one of our staff setup his own home router with DHCP service running in his classroom. It was a nightmare!
  12. I usually worked with the one next to 0 and not on the num pad.
  13. Go to the ISA server and find the ISA Server Management. Expand the Server name and click on Monitoring, then select the Logging tab. On the Task Pane on the right, click on Edit Filter. Make sure these three filters are in. Log Record Type Equals Firewall or Web Proxy Filter Log Time Live Destination IP Equals "Remote Server IP address" Replace Remote Sever IP addres with the real IP address of your remote server. Then click on the Start Query. Now let the user start the report writing.
  14. I had the same problem before and was fixed by shortening the names (user/computer).
  15. I think you need the Symantec Continuous Protection Server to do it properly, but setting the Restart Time Interval and the Time Window can do the trick for you.
