  1. If it was me I would get a generator, chain it to said lamp post and leave it till it could be fixed. Fair play to them for doing that though.
  2. That's a new one to me for remote support.
  3. Reading between all the lines with these issues (in all threads) there always seems to be be fault with the filtering/proxy side of things. If it was me I would get a plain old internet line from said company and manage my own filtering to take all this out of the equation. Those of you that say you are having issues with EXA do you have a PC on a plain internet connection you can use to test when having these issues? Do you run any monitoring on connectivity internally and externally and see when these things drop?
  4. I had a BMW do this tonight on the way home! I've seen it all this last few weeks, so many idiots on the road.
  5. Added this link to my bookmarks, it could come in handy!

    Pagers

I know very few use them but just curious for those on larger sites use them.

    Pagers

Anyone use paging on site, in particular POCSAG? Just curious if any larger sites still operate using this technology. Thanks.
  8. Have you tried a different computer connected to it just incase its the computer causing the fault?
  9. We removed admin privileges years ago and it reduced the amount of calls for problems due to users not been able to break stuff, we spent the time sorting out GPO's so that it would amend the relevant permissions on folders so all we had to do was join to domain, install software and away we went. The calls we got were genuine ones when things needed installing and it allowed us to keep tabs what users were doing with software etc. Get a PC and restrict it down, see what doesn't work, get it working, test with a couple of users and then go do the lot. Well you can do it all via GPO.
  10. How long is the USB cable that is connecting the board back to the PC? Do you have any cables running in conduit next to a power cable?
  11. A VPN solution would always be my choice, been there done that with offline folders, causes more hassle than its worth. Other option is do you use O365 or GSuite, then no VPN is required if data is stored on either platform.
  12. I'll stick to the local £8 local chain of cinemas (must admit last time I went it was £6.50).
  13. I've been looking you either a standalone device which I am looking at or one that links to the PC, plus some flat bed type scanners have attachments. I'm not finding anything outstanding but there are some on Amazon where you can plug in a SD card and away you go so I might go for one of these as its easier than linking to the PC in the situation I have.
  14. ManageEngine have a tool and it even puts a link you can run from the login screen before you login and users are able to reset their passwords. - - - Updated - - - Also Certero have a product also.
  15. Sorry to bump an old topic, did you find a standalone one in the end? I've been looking at few different ones and I am after any feedback from users of them. I've got a box full to scan.
  16. Note that not everyone can driving a mini bus with their license and you could need a PSV operator license too. Also worth noting different rules apply based on seat numbers too.
  17. I would use the train more but the cost to certain places make it way more expensive than it does to drive and park. Hopefully for a year that I can have one for it will let me get out and about a bit more without the driving!
  18. Anyone eligible the 26-30 rail card (digital format only) will be available to purchase from 2nd January.
  19. Change the GPO to not show security warnings where you also set point and print restrictions.
  20. ANPR is an extra add on I believe, also mine didn't used to support the facial bits till I recently upgraded the firmware thinking about it.
  21. That is true, Sharp & Kyocera were the first to get the integrated scanning released to them. There is going to be some significant update for Sharp machines come v19 of PaperCut I am told so watch out for that too.
  22. Just looked at my Hikvision DS-7608 just noticed mine has a smart event for face detection and appears to be able to do the same. I've enabled it and will see what I get off it.
  23. Just going back to this point, no reason why that wouldn't work but on the machines the students use I would add the students group to the guests group on the local machine as some PC's you may wish to keep their profiles. As long as they can save to a shared area it should work ok.
  24. I have spent hours looking at kit recently and when I last did this there was certain things to avoid and certain things were worth the extra money but now it all seems its about the same. Just after monitors as PC is in home office and is used as a dedicated workstation. Things used to be so much simpler when I was doing this years ago and also as part of the daily job, lost track how many hours I've been looking, struggling to find good review sites for stuff these days too.
  25. Yes with the MiFi you can restrict the MAC address, well you can on the EE one I have. You may wish to change the SSID and password and remove the sticker. If it was me I would just change the details and not worry about MAC filtering. I prefer these over dongles as if you live in a house with poor signal you can leave this at the window and it will reach.
