We used to have a baseline user and baseline computer policies then say staff user and office user type thing. Tried to keep policies as few as possible as the more you have I was told the more issues it could cause.

They way I think about it, is there something you do on each and every PC that needs to be done en mass, certain settings that have to be changed then it needs to be in a policy and applied that way rather than been done manually.

Personally I would do down the Samsung Galaxy Tab route, I much prefer them over Apple. Question is what are they using them for?

Interesting point to raise, but a user should only ever access system for a legitimate need i.e. to record details on student record, if looking at a record they shouldn't than that would be a breach and would be on an audit log? Only thing I can think of is there a private marker on certain records or can a record be marked as a sensitive record with only access to certain staff?

Does you Windows 10 local admin account have the same password as your file server?

Can you put a shortcut to the cpl for said control panel setting on desktop?

@FN-GM the magnetic toner cannot be lifted off the page hence its use.

Last cheque printer I was involved in was a HP LaserJet M605 about 3 years ago they used a MICR toner which is some form of magnetic ink used for cheques.

Have you got WSD and IPv6 disabled on your devices and are they on the latest firmware versions? I suspect disabling them two protocols will solve your issue as it has me in the past.

I was going to link to that one on Amazon, that is the best small one you will get for your money I think, there are smaller ones but they are useless. Only other option would be them ones you plug in the car in the cig lighter, sure there will be an adapter for mains but I suspect they are just as pricey by the time you buy that and a adapter.

Have you restarted the PaperCut services to see if that makes any difference also also removed any proxy to see if that works?

I have a normal watch made by Accurist, very similar to this one. Does the job a watch is for and tells the time, don't need another thing that needs charging up. My friend bought me it for my 21st and its doing well with only 1 battery change in the 10 years I've had it.

Is it the same if you go RDP to the server and use http://127.0.0.1:9191/admin does it do the same?

Funny enough OBS was what I was going to recommend, I watched a how to last night made by it, first time I had seen so downloaded it, yet to play but looks ok.

You should be able to login to the device in cached mode without been connected to the network and access everything that is local to you without the need for creating separate users. I use my laptop like that more than I do on the network as I spend more time out on the road.

I have schools that just monitor what is been printed, others that will put a quota per person or department and then staff select said department, some will bill appropriately, others have print & copy budget so this figure is true to what the budget is. If you don't have any idea just monitor to get a feel and set them say after the summer? Authentication for my PaperCut sites is usually proximity/biometric/ID to person or AD credentials. Once logged in you can select department for staff, students just use personal balance.

Where I used to live the Parish council has a sub site of the main County Council where each Parish has the facility to do this, is there anything available by your local council?

I have been recommended DrayTek modem or a BT Openreach Huawei modem then into a router of your choice. I've got one going into a Netgate PFsense box at my brothers (or will have in a few weeks).

Got one here to. Local political parties had been sending stuff too and I am not on the public list so will be on the one they have access too.

East coast/Humber and its windy and raining.

My neighbour had his done earlier in the year and it cost them somewhere in the region of £1000, up from £700 when they initially looked when they bought the house a few years ago. Some councils will do it themselves, others let you pick an approved contractor. What they have been sneaky with around here recently is when renewing roads/path ways if people have had a drive way but no dropped kerb they put them one in free of charge! Obviously got a few peoples backs up, including my neighbours. They as part of the works also replaced mine rather than just extend next doors the whole lot had to be done.

The ones that take a signal from outside and boost it inside are not cheap. Maybe cheaper to get a broadband connection installed and use one of the boosters they provide as you can be paying thousands for none internet one.

I would say 24" is more than enough for situations like this, I upgraded to 27" from 24" recently and its quite a big step up and honestly don't think there is a need in a normal office environment.

Sounds about right, pricing no sure on. Ideally I would have this installed on a server, you then install the client on the PC and point it to said server. Really it needs to be on a machine that is on all the time (server) so everything is recorded.
