  1. I have just had a chat with the teacher and it is the software, but they have not really used the Smart software, they gave it a quick go and didn't like it. I know most of the planning in the school is currently done in Smart Notebook, so I don't think the school would really want one class using something different unless it was a lot better and the entire school moved over. so my next question, is the Promethean software / ActiveInspire much better than Smart Notebook, as this teacher has said?
  2. All the school's I work in use Smart, most now have Smart interactive TV's. At one of my schools we have just had a new teacher that has requested her board is changed to Promethean as she is used to using that. Obviously the school don't want to have just one class using something different to all the rest, but I am interested in working out the pros & cons of each system, not taking into account the cost or licensing fees. Are there any Edugeekers that have used both types of hardware (interactive TVs) and both types of Software, which do you prefer? EDIT - No sales posts please
  3. That was going to be my next question :0)
  4. Could this be to do with miss-configured DNS scavenging? I assume the DC did have those IP addresses. Sorry not my area of expertise and just throwing and idea your way.
  5. We use New Google Sites, which auto adjusts and then just dump our current newsletter on that, sometimes its a Word doc, sometimes G Doc.
  6. If my method works, I think we had a script that could be deployed. Let me know and I have a hunt for it.
  7. We actually had this issue on a couple of servers. Not sure what we did to fix it but it might have been this - Go to the NIC properties for IPv4. Click the "Advanced..." button. Select the DNS tab. Enter your domain name into the text box for "DNS suffix for this connection:". Disable and then enable the connection to get NLA to re-identify the location
  8. Update - All seems to be working how I need :0) First task runs at 7:30am which starts Backup and Sync. This task is set with 'when system starts & on schedule, so it should work while nobody is logged in or if the server has rebooted. The next task runs at 7am and stops the first task and also makes sure the Backup & Sync application has been terminated. Than at 7:30 the first task runs again.
  9. Hi, I have just been suspending accounts so far. There is an option in G Suite / apps / Drive, to transfer an owners documents to a new account, it even says 'useful when deleting a user', so I would probably use that.
  10. Just had another thought..... As task scheduler was almost working, I have just created a separate task to run once a day that will force stop the original task using taskkill.exe. I will post back with an update :0)
  11. @dhicks thanks I will take a look. For any other posters - I am only using the backup part of the software and disable sync. Basically I am backing up the final few folders on our local server to Google Drive \ computers.
  12. I need to get Google's Backup and Sync running on a server even if the user is logged off. I did get it working using a task scheduler but have noticed that after a while this just stops working, I think task scheduler might have some extended usage disconnect feature, but not sure. So I have started looking for ways to run the software as a service. I found 'Always up' but this is not free, if it was something I was going to use a lot I would pay. I also found NSSM but the latest release is 2014. Anyone have any ideas?
  13. They do want to but they decided to only switch one system at a time. It will be the business manager that is taking the lead in switching SIMS while also being in charge of finance, and doing both at the same time was a bit daunting. We also have the issue that our LA require the school to use FMS, so this was going to be a separate issue to look at.
  14. We are looking at moving to a cloud based MIS and moving away from SIMS and are just in the final stages of getting that all signed off. Just hit a snag and have been told that our current LA Sims license also includes our FMS license and we cant split the licence. At some point we will find an alternative to FMS, it is something we need to do in stages, so wanted to keep FMS going for a while. I have not spoken directly to Capita yet but have been told they make it very hard to use just FMS as they just make the cost of a separated FMS license the same as the combined SIMS / FMS license, + the full support costs. Is this true or am I being told rubbish?
  15. This will fix the SmartNotebook issue Open Acrobat Reader DC Go to Edit Preferences Go to "Security (Enhanced)"Uncheck the box called "Run in AppContainer" Restart Acrobat Another fix for a few issues is Open Acrobat Reader Click Edit > Preferences > General > untick Show Online storage when opening files untick Show Online storage when saving files finally tick Use only certified plug-ins
  16. If you also have SmartNotebook installed, it is this causing the issue. Post back if you do and I will post the fix
  17. I look after a number of primary schools, a couple are very large and I have managed to upgrade most servers to 2019 (apart from the SIMS ones) and 99% of clients are Windows 10. I will now site back and relax with smug mode enabled :0)
  18. Thanks, I will make sure all updates have been applied directly from MS next week at some point. Good to know there might be an easy fix.
  19. Just had a thought.... If I use backup and sync, disable the sync and enable delete files deleted locally, I can then use our cloud backup software to get and backup the changes on a day to day basis. Will see how this goes
  20. Smart now seem to offer two similar versions of their interactive TVs, with the MX version being slightly cheaper, but not by much. Has anyone used both types of their TVs? I am just wondering if it's worth paying slightly more for the non MX version.
  21. I need to find the best way of backing up a small amount of files to the cloud for a primary school. 90% of the school files are already cloud based, there are just a few folders that can't be in the cloud, including Sims, FMS nightly backups. We also have cloud to cloud backup, so the cloud based files are also safe. During the night I use Windows Server backup on the host to backup both Hyper-V virtual machines to another server running as ISCSI target. These take most of the night to run. My options as I see them are.... Use something like Cloudberry. This seems a bit of a waist of money for just a few folders / files. Use Google Backup & Sync. You can disable the sync, but the backup only has the option to keep deleted files or to delete them, so it might not be any good for backups. I might be able to use Windows Server Backup to backup to a folder or USB and then use Google Backup & Sync to move those files to the cloud. I am not sure how Backup & Sync would handle the files with this setup. Any other ideas? EDIT - As my virtual machines get backed up during the night, am I best to do any file level backups (in side the data VM) during the day?
  22. Problem is, there are some parts of the OS that will not try to connect if the connection test fails, we had some very odd issues when we had similar.
  23. Out of interest, did you ever have a proxy?
  24. We are using reading cloud and found that we had been using the wrong url, the url should also include the school reading cloud number. After adding that everything seemed to run much better.
  25. Just realised that when I suspend a user they are still a member of any groups they were in. I seem to remember that opening the groups page it used to list suspended if someone was suspended, but it does not seem to do this anymore. Is there a way to list suspended users and the groups they are a member of?
