[sims] Sims Server Migration & Server 2019
TwistedHelixis replied to DanTheLacky's topic in MIS Systems
I found it fine. I migrated Sims and FMS first then the following week migrated Solus3. There is no migration tool for Solus3, so I made a backup of the Solus3 database and then imported it into the new SQL version. Needed to make a couple of changes in the Solus GUI to let it know where the new database was and a couple other changes and that's it. I did this first on a test vm, worked out the odd kink and all OK. EDIT - The only issue I needed to workout was why all the clients listed in Solus3 where offline, but realised that in the Solus3 programs folder is a connection app, after typing in the new SQL info all clients listed as being online again. -
[sims] Sims Server Migration & Server 2019

Its not that hard to do yourself. I have done 4 primary schools so far. Do a test migration on a virtual server first just to make sure everything will be OK. -
Trying to create a school list of Android apps that would appear in the Play app store under the Work tab. When I go into device management > app management > whitelisted apps and do a search for an app I just get the same list of apps returned no matter what I'm searching for, so can't whitelist the apps we need. Any ideas?

Hi, Just noticed that I do not have the play store listed in Chrome when clicking on the 3x3 square dots, for my admin account, but it is for all the staff. The Play Store is enabled for the entire domain under 'Additional Google services'. Is this normal for admin accounts? BTW - I can do a search for the store and open it that way, just wondering why my apps tiles are not the same as everyone else.

I would like advanced device policy setup on all the school owned Android tablets but not on staff personal phones etc. Currently the basic policy is being applied for anyone that logs in using a school domain account. Is it possible to apply the advanced device policy just to tablets the school owns?

Hi, Just got myself a new Samsung tablet in the Black Sales and setup using my business G Suite account (I am the only user). I use this account for testing before making changes to any school G Suite accounts. During the tablet setup I was asked to install the 'Google Apps Device Policy' app, but I am not sure why. In G suite I have the Mobile policies set to basic, which I thought just worked with Android devices without the need to install any additional software. Any thoughts what setting required GADP app to need installing.

Thanks everyone. Just getting some quotes in for the TAB A (2019) and the TAB S5e. Will recommend to the school that we should test out a TAB A first.

Just noticed there is also a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e that is new and around £350, so will also look into this

I need to purchase some more Android tablets for a primary school. We normally get a slightly older Samsung Galaxy Tab S ?? Yes they are pricey but they do have a fantastic touch screen, and speedy hardware, but even the Tab S 3 is £350 and that came out almost 3 years ago, so I started looking at alternatives. We have tried cheaper tablets in the past and they never got used as the touch screen was not great, so it's been worth paying extra for something that will actually get used. I noticed the Samsung Tab A (2019) is only £120 direct from Samsung, so what is the catch, anyone used one? If the Tab A is simply not as good as the much older Tab S3 I will just get the S3 but wondered if anyone had used the Tab A and could offer some feedback.

Agreed, this looks epic, but then I loved the previous Half-Life games. I now need to pick a VR system to play this on

We have an issues with our Spanning backups not backing up our Shared drives. Spanning have asked me to let them know how many files we have in total being backed up from our Shared Drives. I am sure I have stumbled onto the file counts in the past but can't work it out now. Hope someone can point me in the right direction )

Thanks, I have 1070 GTX, son has 970 GTX. Just checked and we should be OK -
I have wanted a VR system for years but cant justify getting it for myself, but now my son has just asked if we can both save up and get one. As I was not expecting to get one I have just ignored most of the info about them, so I'm going to put you on the spot and ask which system is the best and why. If the best one is the most expensive we will just save up for longer. If you need more information, please ask and I shall reply :0)

Sorry for jumping in.... My son wants a vr setup for Christmas (as do I). Quick question, do all PC VR games work on any vr systems like Vive or Oculus
