  1. Perhaps I am getting confused. I thought I had seen it where the pupils just click the url link on the desktop to open Reading Cloud, and can scan books in and out without needing to login.
  2. I don't use or look after Reading Cloud, but just noticed the teacher having to login using a username and password just so they could open the circulate tab. I seem to remember some tabs should be available as a default when the website is first visited, including the circulate tab. Am I correct?
  3. For those that have done an in-place upgrade of the OS, did you login as a local admin account to run the upgrade or not, rather than using a domain account? The reason I ask is I have noticed better outcomes when doing similar with Windows 7 to 10 migrations.
  4. Jumped over some posts, sorry if dupicating. Can't you just have a seperate vlan or connection for agencies and vpn connections?
  5. We are G Suite cloud based primary school and even if the internet goes down, the staff can still access teaching resources using one of the schools mobile phones, which can be used as a hotspot if needed. Also some files have been set as offline, so they have access to those anyway.
  6. Looks like SP1 is already not supported. I will be upgrading tonight then.
  7. I remember reading that from the spring 2020 update Capita would not be supporting SQL 2016 unless it has service packs. 1. Where is the product road map in the Capita portal, I am going round and round but can't find it. 2. If a school has no service packs, can I install SP2, or do I need to install SP1 and then SP2? 3. The first school I have just checked has an SQL version of 13.0.4259.0, does this equate to SP1. Sorry for all the questions.
  8. Cheers for that. Looks like their free version will be fine for us. Suppose I could also sign up for 365 and use that.
  9. Google announced the following I seem to remember we have disabled IMAP anyway, but just wanted to double check if this will effect FMS being able to send emails.
  10. Last year we had an access request. The school ended up in court. Let me warn you, you need to be able to take control of your school's data if needed. Do not use personal emails for school owned data.
  11. Looks like nearly all our computers are listed as approved in the endpoint section, also without anything having been deployed. I did have auto approval enabled at some point. Perhaps it's an either or situation, you either need to approve a device (manual or auto in G Suite) or you need to deploy the MSI or Chrome extension. Otherwise I can't see how the devices are already listed.
  12. Has anyone had a go at using the new 'Restrict File Stream to company devices' yet? I was trying to workout how this setting would effect users that already have File Stream installed, if their laptop has not already been added to the company devices list, and so far it seems to do nothing. So in apps > drive > features > file stream, it says that devices need to be added as company devices, which my test computer is not and file stream still works, but it is listed as approved in End point. Do you think this is a glitch, or just the fact that my test computer was already listed in end point before the new restricted access rolled out. Anyone else had a play yet?
  13. I wonder why the don't let you add paid apps to the whitelist of apps, that way we could pay for it from a pupils tablet using a voucher card or something. So I will probably need to enable the entire app store just so they can use this app, great.
  14. I have been asked to add an app to our 'Work Tab' in the school's Play Store. When I find the app (devices > app amangement > whitelist apps), it is missing the approve button, which I assume is because the app is not free. So how do I add the app to the whitelisted apps?
  15. OK, so it looks like you just need to add the serial number of the device you want added. Something to test out next week
  16. Next to workout is how does G Suite now the difference between a school owned laptop and a personal one. Last time I looked this involved a bit more than just ticking a box.
  17. This is from memory as I don't have access to our quote but seem to remember it was about £15 per user. But that is for unlimited space and also includes Shared Drives. I only backup the main teachers and office accounts as everyone else is saving into a shared drive area that will get backed up by one of those main accounts. When I was looking at alternatives a while back like Backupif, I found out that the initial cost was for a limited amount of space and Shared drives was an extra, this might have changed as I looked a good few years ago.
  18. Worst present I ever got was a pair of socks without the VeryPC logo on them, what on earth were they thinking :0P
  19. For those asking about moving files over from the data server. Install backup and sync on the data server, add the folders you want to backup, disable the 'ask if a file gets deleted' tack box, files will sync to Google drive > computers and update with any changes. Completely disable the bit for local Google drive sync and off it goes. I have done this at a few schools now. After it has synced to Drive > Computers, create some shared areas and drag your cloud based folder and files into those. BTW at all my schools we use Spanning backup, it also backs up emails, calendars blar blar
  20. Now I have that bit sorted and all the school apps are in the Play Store Work tab, I have just noticed I only get that tab when viewing from a tablet, which does make sense as the whitelist is done under the devices section. I am just wondering if it's possible to get that Work tab to display on Chrome on the teachers laptops.
  21. Just tried while at another school and the search is working fine. @howartp or someone else that tried yesterday, let me know if it's working today or not.
  22. Going to give up for the moment, using the app ID returns the same list of apps, even leaving the search empty still returns those same apps.
  23. Thanks for checking :0) Think I will just use the app ID method mentioned above, until I can workout how to get the search working correctly.
  24. Just had a message from another school who say the search is working fine for them. Perhaps this is either a filtering issue or something up with Google servers and its just bad timing. EDIT - I will test from home later and see if it's a filtering issue.
