  1. Only with some Android tablets that had a Bluetooth keyboard. The keyboards never got used, but this was more down to the device not really being suitable to be used with a keyboard. I can see KS1 wanting only the tablet and KS2 wanting the keyboard attached. Its best of both and at a cost the school will not bork at.
  2. Lenovo are releasing a new Chromebook that looks like the surface pro laptops but comes with all accessories including keyboard for just $279, not sure how much it will be in the UK. It has been getting some really good reviews I am thinking it might be good in a primary school or if you need something portable but really cheap. BTW it comes with 8 years of OS updates, which is amazing for a Chromebook.
  3. Also in same position as you but my workload has gone up since this all started, even been working until 10pm some nights, realistically they should be paying us more
  4. The Government are still giving the schools the same amount of money and have actually told them to keep paying all services at the same rates.
  5. Its not doing the takeoff for the moon noise they can do, so think its just one fan. Yes idrac is on. not sure, ill open it later Yes just one connected
  6. Recently got a second hand Dell PowerEdge T430 to play around with at home, so its not going to be turned on all the time. Problem is, when its tuned off the fan spins up every few minutes for 5 seconds and its starting to drive me crazy. I don't want to remove the power cable from the back as I would like to keep the internal batteries charged. Didn't have this issue on my older dell r710 test server. Any idea how I stop the fans from spinning up?
  7. The Governments advice is still to work from home if you can, and being in IT and able to remote onto any machine in the school from home covers that requirement with a great big tick. I have said that if I am really needed I can pop in by arrangement.
  8. Probably not what you are after but I use Google backup and sync to backup data drive to Google drive, which is free and then use spanning backup which is a cloud to cloud back to back up Google drive. Spanning is about £20 per user account per year but they require a minimum number of accounts I believe. At another school I do it the other way round and backup google drive to the onsite server using Cube backup which costs us £2 per year lol.
  9. My sons primary school is only opening for year 6 and my mate who works in a London uni was told he would be working from home until January at he earliest.
  10. If you're backing up within Windows, Windows Server Backup. Backing up VMs from the hypervisor is slightly trickier, WSB supports it, as does wbadmin cmd line for Hyper V Server. Main issue come when restoring. What issues? Not had any issues restoring VMs
  11. Is that specifically meet created through Gmail? I recently tested inviting my wife which worked fine. I was in educational g suite and she was in free, but I used the meet web page not Gmail.
  12. Seeing as immunity in other viruses can last a few weeks or months, this is not really a long term plan unless we get lucky and we become immune for life.
  13. I normally backup to an iscsi server, every few days I use Windows task to copy the iscsi backup to a USB drive. To restore I normally plug the USB drive in to the schools spare server, open Windows backup and do a restore. I normally dont restore the hyper-v config as it only takes 30 secs to create this in hyper-v. If needed I can also connect directly to the iscsi server and do a restore. EDIT - Its all very simple and all built in
  14. I have always used Windows server backup to backup all VM's across my schools. Has never let us down (yet). I normally do a test restore every month and not had an issue in over 7 years. I seem to remember you can also mount the vm file and get at the files if needed.
  15. So is there no point setting up TLS as I am never going to know all the domains that the school might need to email
  16. My android opens to whatever was last selected
  17. Also, if I tick outbound and then click test I get an error about no domains or addresses specified. Do they want me to list every domain or email address the school might contact, because that will never be practical.
  18. Hi, I have had the following messages from a Governor. So I think the 'all inboxes' is in their iPhone mail app and they are needing to open the gmail app for school emails, but they want everything in one place. Now the reason for needing the Gmail app is because a few years ago we disabled POP & IMAP and asked anyone with an iPhone to install the Gmail app, this was due to security concerns. Any advice from another school that uses G Suite with iPhone's would be really handy, as I don't have an iPhone, so can't even test things. Also are there still security concerns in regards to POP & IMAP?
  19. So don't tick inbound and leave everything else as it is in the screen grab?
  20. OK, so I assume I tick inbound & outbound in section 1. Do I need to change anything for section 2 & 3?
  21. We have family in Italy and they mentioned this to us back at the end of March. They said that it looked like a slightly different variant of the virus was badly affecting children there.
  22. We already have DKIM setup but I wondered if others have TLS setup. BTW we are using G Suite for Education.
  23. Just in case anybody else get this issue.... The only issue I had doing the in place migration was with the Windows updates that I tried to run at the very end. Basically after the updates had downloaded and installed, clicking the reboot button just gave an error 0x80070005. Managed to workout that Windows had enabled its own threat protection systems, once I had disabled real-time protection the update installed as expected and I could reboot the server.
  24. The upgrade has completed without any issues. Not had time to check everything, but AD, DHCP & DNS seem to be OK
  25. Its OK just worked it out. I tried to do an in-place update without updating the schema and it will not install the update. I got an error message saying I needed to update schema first. Just run adprep and the in-place upgrade is now installing (on test DC)
