  1. Do you think you will use Google Voice now the trial has ended?
  2. The primary school bursar is in the process of looking at alternatives to our expensive old analogue phone system, so far she has had quotes for a similar analogue system and a newer IP based system. As the school is already a G Suite school I was thinking of giving her a curve ball and mentioning Google Voice, but have never used this. Are any schools using Google Voice? Can you connect a normal phone and make calls? Any other options?
  3. All fixed Fasted way I could think of was to click forget device, this seemed to reset the AP without needing any password (saved me a walk) and then I could ssh the firmware onto the remain APs, after that I could tick the advanced features box and then update the device passwords. Phew.
  4. OK so I just tied to tick the advances features box and got an error about unsupported devices, I assume I'll need to reset & ssh all our APs first then.
  5. No, although I notice a box to set enable advanced features that is not ticked. When I go to tick this I get a long list of warnings about losing connection to the APs, so clicked cancel. Yep, I can access using ssh immediately after resetting, but then it adopts with the controller and changes the APs password, this then means I cant use the controller to deploy any future firmware updates and I will need to reset the AP again.
  6. Although the update did work, the only way I could connect to the AP was by resetting it first, I was getting permission denied otherwise. Now I have a bit of time, I think that the AP's must have been setup using another password (not sure) although everything was fine before I upgraded the controller software. Anyway when I go into Settings, Site, I do not see ssh auth or an eyeball icon. I am on controller 5.11.46. Also I thought that resetting the AP would result in using the current controller password after adoption, but that does not seem to be the case.
  7. Have you got SPF, DKIM etc setup, if not other mail server might reject your mail.
  8. Just to clarify - The schools I am referring to are both primary and secondary and when I say all the schools round me are Google I do not mean the entire county, I literally mean the schools near me, say a 10 mile radius. Not sure why but there are clusters of schools that do not want to be supported by the LA and then outside of those clusters are the LA supported schools. The LA probably support up to 70% of all the schools in my county, so most schools in the county are Office 365 by virtue of being supported by a company that only gave them one choice. I recently took over a primary school from the LA, the new head had come from a school that had used G Suite before and wanted that, so they dumped the LA. Most schools I know of would not leave the LA support, as it is all they know, so they stick with what they have, just like SIMS.
  9. South East. The college round the corner has been a Google school since 2008 (probably one of the first), so before Office 365 was even a thing. When the LA started deploying Office 365, G Suite was not even mentioned, they simply sent out information saying they would be migrating from the old email (RM) to Office 365. I know of one LA supported school that wanted to use G Suite and they were told at the time they would not support or help the school with G Suite. EDIT - I would like to add that the penny is finally starting to drop at the LA, as so many schools want to use Chromebooks.
  10. My post is a response to OP. Lots of the schools around me are G Suite Schools including the colleges. For each of the schools I look after I setup both Office 365 & G Suite and got SLT to use both for a few months. All of those schools picked G Suite over Office 365. I have spoken to schools where the LA look after their IT and they were not given a choice, they had to use Office 365.
  11. Thanks for the help. upgrade worked and now adopted. For anyone else - I needed to remove the S from https for it to work
  12. Currently just reading the basic help, which goes like.... 1. connecting to the AP - will use the IP. 2. use some cmd to download the firmware .bin file It's 2 I am trying to work out.
  13. Just tried to update one of our UniFI AP's (basic version) using the installed console and it didn't work. I now have adopt & update listed for that AP. The adoption seems to work but not the firmware update. I also tried putting the unit back to it's defaults (pin in for 10 seconds) but end up back at the same point. So I think I need to ssh onto the AP. I have downloaded some ssh software, but the very very basic help info on Ubiquiti says to enter the url for the firmware update, which should end in .bin Not sure I am even looking at the correct help page. Did find something about the process changing at some point, so I am ignoring older web info. How do I find this URL? This is the update page - https://www.ui.com/download/unifi/unifi-ap/uap/unifi-firmware-4054-uap-uap-lr-uap-od-uap-od5 But none of the links on that page (or the URL) look anything like the URL I think I need.
  14. Did this recently and was much simpler than I thought it might be. After adding the domain and changing the DNS settings I migrated their emails using the built in migration tool (Admin console) and updated the MX record
  15. probably not what you are after but you could use the Google Photos app and let Google store the photos for you???
  16. If you are using POI from a switch I remember reading something ( a while back) about the Unifi AP needing different voltages to the voltage supplied by most switches.
  17. I have just been asked by our librarian (parent) how she should move each of the classes of pupils up to their new class. Its just a small single form primary school, so Year 1 will now need to be years 2 etc. Cheers
  18. We stopped using Cloudberry a while back, we had restore issues. Anyway back to OP, could you not use Googles own Backup and sync tool, but perhaps disable the sync and only use the backup part? This is how I migrated all our data drives to the cloud.
  19. Hi, I have just moved one of my schools over to Server 2019 and have done my monthly restore test, which has failed. The server I use to test the backups / restore too is also server 2019. The backups are taken on the host, which backs up both virtual machines on the host to an iSCSI drive on another server, I then copy this backup to a USB drive and use the USB drive to do my test restores from. Windows backup restore gets to 100% and then gives a message that the restore has failed. I do have a workaround, if I mount the file on the USB drive and then copy the VM disks from the USB drive to my test restore server, I can then create a new virtual machine using the copied disks and the VM starts up as it should. The odd thing is that the same restore server (2019) is able to restore our old backups which were taken from server 2012r2 just fine. Anyone else having this issue?
  20. We currently use Spanning backup, they have an educational discounted version but have started to also look at Cubebackup which uses your own hdd space and so is a lot cheaper.
  21. Think I have fixed the issue - I deleted the virtual NIC, created a new one and the vms have just started as normal.
  22. Hi, We had a power issue over the weekend and I lost connection to our only 2 VM clients. I have rebooted the server but when I try to fire a vm I cant connect and there is no heartbeat, although the clock that counts how long the client has been on for does go up. Currently have no idea when to look at.
  23. This type of things happens to me with new laptop builds. I can have a load all lined up, walk along clicking the same button, and one will have a different message to the rest.
