I have been handed 2 faulty iPad's, both are about 2 years old and not under warranty. One has a really cracked screen, the other just a black screen, although I can hear sounds coming from it when I press the volume buttons, so it does still seem to be working. At another school a few years ago, I took an iPad with a faulty screen into the Apple store and they said the screen was more expensive than a new tablet and not worth fixing. Is it worth trying to get these fixed, or should we replace them and perhaps get accidental damage cover?

Think that is the problem, if they set the passcode and then leave I need to do a full iTunes wipe. Would be handy if I could either display the passcode in Mosyle or remotely set it.

Managed to workout the passcode with the help from another teacher. Is there anyway of being able to set the passcode from Mosyle manager?

Hi, Recently setup our first batch of iPads for the teachers and used Mosyle as the MDM. One of the teachers has just left and I need to set this iPad up for the new teacher. Problem is during the boot up it is asking for a PIN code and I don't know it. I tried hitting remove lock password & remove restrictions pass from Mosyle, plus a few other options but nothing seems to be getting applied on the iPad. Is there a quick way to reset the iPad?

That is the same as ours 2vpu & 8gb, obviously does depend on the amount of data and usage FMS has. On a side note, I wasn't entirely sure how to untangle SIMS from our SOLUS3 server and ended up just leaving it on. When you get round to removing SIMS would you mind documenting what you do. I'm sure its just a few steps but got a bit nervous about causing issues with FMS.

So have Google deployed a system that needs a paid subscription, but also killed the version that did work under the free fundamentals subscription? Is that legal?

Do gpp users and groups remain persistent for the computer / user if they access their laptop from outside our domain? Need to move from restricted groups to gpp users and groups due to an issue. Previously with restricted groups, if a teacher worked from home and if they had been given local admin rights their laptop would remember this even if they were not connected to our domain. Just checking that gpp users and groups works like this and the settings are persistent. Cheers

OK so things have got a bit worrying. I was just about to hand out a new PC (setup today) and just double checked the local admin groups. This pc did have all the groups deleted, but was also missing a few more groups. Playing around on the DC it doesnt seem to make a difference if ai add or remove groups to restricted groups, its just not applying to the PC. So next I creates a GPP local users & groups settings, created a new OU, dumped both the GPO and computer in that OU and it now has the correct groups listed in the local admin group. This is a single DC On the laptop I am running gpupdate /force Q1 - If the option in the GPO is now set to 'Not configured', enable it again = I cant see anywhere that says its not configured. Q2 - Should I just move over to GPP users and groups? EDIT, now changed to GPP users and groups are not getting updated on the laptop. Going to take a break and look at this in the morning.

Hi all. I am cleaning up some of our security groups and wanted to remove a couple from all the clients laptops local admin groups I have removed the groups that were listed in the restricted groups gpo (computer policy), but if I run gpupdate /force on a client pc the groups do not get deleted from the local admin group. I can't see any other policies being applied. Any pointers?

Alternatively, you can just install the new drivers on the new print server. I have done this lots of times over the years and it keeps everything nice and clean / up to date. If you are not sure, then probably go this way.

Yes, provided both old and new server have different IPs and server names. After you import to the new server the GPO will still be sending everyone's printing to the old server, you can keep this in place until you are happy its printing from the new server for you. Screen shot looks like the correct option. Exporting the printers to a file will not change any other settings, it is like doing a backup. Importing that file onto your new printer server, should not cause any big issues, as the users are still getting the old GPO that sends their print jobs via the old server. One issue you might have going forward, is that MS have changed how printer are deployed to users, so when it comes to setting up a new GPO that points to the new printer it might not deploy without some additional steps.

Last time I moved printers to a new server I used the export function. Not at a server now but from memory open Printer manager, right click on your server name and click backup or export. On new server install print server role, copy backup file from old server to new server, open print server and restore or import file. Then open GPO and change the printer server name for each printer gpo. Something like that EDIT, when you backup or export the printers, it does not stop the original printers from still printing, so a) you can always full back to your old print server if needed. b) remember to disable the printer server service on old print server at some point in the above process.

This is the path my primary schools went down about 5 years ago, so yes sounds like the right track to me. As for the internet issues, we have a few school mobile phones that in an emergency can be used to teather the teachers laptop so they can quickly download the work they might need. You could also look at getting a backup internet line installed, so you can switch to that if needed

Not made the move yet, but at the same point as you. Most pupils use Chromebooks and all the data is in Google Workspace etc. Ill keep an eye on this post :-)

recently tested out Altaro as it has a free 'full features' option. Was extremely simple to setup. Will probably use this for our VMs very soon. - - - Updated - - - Is that with full features, or cut down version?

Most of the primary schools around me use Google Classroom to set at least one item of homework a week.

I would say the lakes in Croatia and thermal lakes in Australia should be on that list.

I would probably use / pay for geforce now, while testing other options.

I don't really use Classroom, but it was my understanding that you should never add or delete Classroom files via Google Drive, as it can cause some odd issues and to do all the editing from in Google Classroom. I could be completely wrong as I don't ever use it.

We have the free educational fundamentals and can control (import) the Android devices using the advanced MDM in Workspace. Not at my computer, but from memory.... I have device approvals set to always on. If someone logs in on an android device I get a request to allow this process to proceed. When allowed, the device gets added to our work devices list and the work profile is added. You can also create a work apps list and remove the full Google Apps store, its under the apps section in Google workspace. This is all stuff I have discovered over the past few days.

Not sure how to fix your issue, but I suppose the worst case scenario is to create a new VM and attach the VM disks to that from their new location. EDIT - provided they didn't have any checkpoints.

Hey, Think I just got the Androids working properly with Google Workspace as the MDM. I can assign an app to the school's own app store, so the pupils can install apps they might need from our own list of apps. EDIT - Seeing as this seems to be working well now, I am also wondering how good their iPad MDM offering is now.

Turning off band steering fixed the issue, how crazy is that lol.
