Does anyone else have this on their DC, adapter settings > IPv4 > Properties > Advanced > DNS tab > 'DNS suffix for this connection'. Anything entered or is it blank?

Thanks for getting back to me It can't be DHCP, as it also happens on the Domain controller. On the page you linked it also mentions, Enter your domain name into the text box for "DNS suffix for this connection:". So I might do this, as it was there on the old server. Would be really handy if someone else could quickly check if they have their domain added in, adapter settings > IPV4 > Properties > Advanced > DNS tab > 'DNS suffix for this connection'

I look after a few schools and since upgrading the servers (DC and DATA servers) at each school to server 2019, the network adapter defaults to Private. This is even on the domain controllers. Resetting the 'Network location awareness' service does fix the issue. The only difference I can think of betwwen this 2019 setup and my older 2012r2 setup, on my old DC servers in adapter settings > IPV4 > Properties > Advanced > DNS tab > 'DNS suffix for this connection' had our domain.lan, on our new servers I left this blank. I left this blank on the new servers as I read it wasn't needed. Does everyone else have 'DNS suffix for this connection' filled in or is it blank? If nobody else has this filled in then the issue probably lies elsewhere. Is there a way of disabling the private and public connections, so it only has domain? Is there a way of forcing it to always use Domain?

At the end of the day its not really your fault. If someone really wanted to hack a specific school or business they probably could. Think how that one user that clicks on the phishing email must feel, knowing they gave hacker access. I once had a chat with a head about this and the stress it would cause IT and her answer was, has anyone died? If not then do what you can but don't stress about it. I remind myself of those words whenever the stress creeps back in :-)

These are primarily schools, so yes they are all pe teachers, lol.

Most of the schools I look after are Google based. So over the years whenever I have handed out Android tablets everyone calls them iPads. Recently they have also been referring to all the Microsoft laptops as Chromebooks, which I find amazing. They still have a lot of windows devices, the ICT suit is full of them, so it amazes me they are defaulting to this in their heads.

Can the NAS devices backup more than one Google domain?

Wasabi is very cheap as the backup space. Something like £6 per TB per month.

Hi, So the head started at a school and wanted her own email address '[email protected]', but the school also has '[email protected]' already, so she wanted access to both of these I created her name@.... account and set the head account to forward any emails to the other account. The problem is she is not at all IT savvy, she sometimes opens one of the accounts for the emails, sometimes the other for her Google Drive files. Sometimes she tells people to use one address sometimes the other. I have tried to explain to just use one but that doesn't seem to work. So thinking about this, perhaps I should have just set the head@.... account up with the alias of name@..... Then she could have logged into either from gmail, calendar, Google Drive etc and they would be the same account. Just wondering how I can now move the name@... account to being an alias of the head@ account. I haven't tried yet, but guess it might give an error that the user is already created. Any other options.

unfortunately federation might not be an option. I tried to set this up, its not that hard but it gave an error, so I contacted Apple support who couldn't get it working and then I contacted Google Support, who also couldn't workout the issue. Both Apple & Google were saying it was an issue with the other party. Both remoted on with me more than once. This went on for months before I gave up.

Hi, I am just creating some new Apple School Manager teacher accounts and the last one gives me the error - this managed apple id is taken. Iit turns out The teacher logged into an iPad using their school email. Anything I can do to add that account to ASM? I suppose I could create a email alias and use that. On a side note: Under the Apple ID section, I am just entering the users email address, but noticed it does have another pull down that also lists .appleid.com Should I be selecting default = [email protected] or pull down = [email protected] Whats the actual difference and why do I have a choice? I enabled the settings pages on the Chromebook for that user so they could pick the settings needed. Although I recently noticed I know have the option to pick UK, Ukrainian or Russian from the login screen. I guess something must have applied under the 'Devices' settings.

I had a game that I think was on the Amstrad CPC464 that had actual speech. Maid Marian would call out 'Help me robin', its was totally amazing that a game had real speech. I still have the Amstrad + monitor and a few games, never could bring myself to sell it.

My iscsi target is actually on a Windows server, so there might be a few differences between that and your NAS. I am also only selecting to backup the VMs using the hyper-V backup system that is part of Windows backup, so I am not doing barematal or file level backup. Yes, I normally disconnect all links from the old server to the iscsi target. Then connect the new server up. So my iscsi target is on windows server 2012r2, the backup file created by Windows backup is literally just a .vhdx file, which I can copy to my USB drive and then mount on any Windows computer. I have a folder on my backup server called iscsi and inside that I have a file named backup.vhdx. Perhaps your NAS does this part differently to my server.

This is how I sometimes install a new host server. Install OS, install Hyper-V role and backup role, Connect to iscsi backup and do a restore.

I normally do my test restores by copying the backed up iscsi folder to a USB drive, then putting that in an old test server, mounting the iscsi file as a windows drive and doing a restore from there. Although, I have had to do a few 'proper' restores, normally when I get a new host server and I connect the new host to the backup iscsi and do a restore. You could do a full test restore to the old host, one of the options during the restore sequence is to either keep the ID or assign it a new ID, so in effect its a new separate server, or you could just restore the HDD files and not the VM itself.

Have you done a test restore? I use windows backup also to an iscsi drive but do test restores every term. You might also be able to mount the iscsi drive as a windows drive to see the actual backed up files.

I would be looking at either Azure or Google Workspace for Education as a way of managing the devices. I look after a few schools and have one that is a Chromebook school, wish the others were the same, as its very easy to manage the Chromebooks.

definitely set static IP. I normally run sconfig and set all updates to manual, that way I can control when the updates happen. Most other domain join their hosts but I don't, I like to keep it separate from the domain.

You should install OS via lifecycle controller, as it injects the drives needed during the setup.

Just setting up GPO software deployment that will deploy to some teachers laptops during boot up. If I tick 'Uninstall this application if it falls outside the scope of this management', would taking the laptop offsite (off domain network) cause the laptop to think it had fallen outside the scope of management?
