So I wanted to a) force as many devices to use 5ghz as possible, B) restrict the radio signal to inside each classroom, as we are getting overlaps. I set prefer 5ghz under Band steering, set 2.4ghz to low transmit power and for the moment left 5ghz transmit power as auto. After hitting save, almost all devices started using only 2.4ghz. If I put the settings back to their defaults some of the devices start using 5ghz again. Any idea what is going on?

Thanks for the info. My other schools already have Chromebooks, so I know how well those work with Google Workspace. Sounds like things haven't got any better for Android tablets. They don't use Intune :-( Looks like ill just log in as the pupil, install some apps and hand them out then.

Just wondering what the current best method of setting up some Samsung Android tablets is for primary pupils? Previously (long time ago) I just created a generic pupil account, logged into the device with this account, installed some apps and handed them over to the teachers. The school does have the free version of Google Workspace (Education Fundamentals). I know Workspace can be used as an MDM, but it was terrible last time I looked.

No, its been fine for almost 2 years It is SQL 2016, I don't think its running in 2012 mode. Ill need to workout how to do this. Is anyone else doing this already??? Just an update: I have uninstalled SIMS discover I have uninstalled Wonde I have Stopped a bunch of tasks from running during the night that interact with SIMS I have found Groupcall Emerge on the server that nobody knows anything about, so might uninstall this also. Ill give the SIMS server a reboot at about 8pm tonight Lets see what happens tomorrow morning.

Starting on Friday morning last week I got a call saying that nobody could log into SIMS. I rebooted the server and everything was fine. Got a similar call on Monday morning. Logged in and could see SQL server Windows NT 64bit > (SQL 2016) was using 95% of the RAM, this server has 16gb assigned to it from Hyper-V. I also look after a few other primary schools with similar setup, so logged onto some of those during the day and the same process is only using a few % of the Ram. Might be a red herring, but after I reboot the SIMS server the memory seems to stay low (ish) during the day, its seems to jump up at some point during the night, but I have only tested this last night so might not be the case. We do have lots of third party apps that access SIMS during the night, such as Wonde, MiSAPP, Groupcall etc, could it be possible one of those is causing the issue. Could it be our hyper-v backup that runs during the night? Any ideas?

Oh that's a catch 22 issue. I'm new (ish) to iPads, what will you do in this situation to get the iPad up and running?

Hi, Just handed out our new iPads and had Mosyle ask them to setup a PIN, which worked well. Problem is one of the teachers has already forgotten the PIN she entered and I can see at least 3 settings that might let me reset the PIN from Mosyle web manager. So in Mosyle > Management > Devices overview > teachers iPad > more (pull down list) I have.... Disable activation lock Remove lock Passcode Remove restrictions Passcode Any idea which one I need to select? Thanks

Not made any changes, just ran DCDIAG and that error is no longer displayed. Very odd. I now have some other errors listed, but I will work through those one by one.

Just ran dfsrmig /getmigrationstate and it reported "Eliminated" which means it is on DFS-R

We only have one DC Migrated to DFSR a while back, but will run script test on it later and post back.

Thought I would fire up a test VM host server and restore a backup of the DC vm, except when I run DCDIAG on this I am not getting the error. The only difference I can think of, is the restored test VM has Novembers or Decembers 2022 Windows updates, whereas the live DC has Jan 2023 updates EDIT: on the backup VM in the dcdiag output I can see it has skipped a few tests, possibly because its on a test host without lan connection.

I don't really want to follow the steps in that link as its about fixing a web server and not a domain controller. I don't want to install the patch as that is for a network load balancing issue. Totally stumped and don't know what to do. Do I take good backups and carry on with the DC migration?

I have stayed in a few different hotels and also camped. First, Disney is not like any other theme park, its an experience and just very different. They have done a fantastic job of creating that magical something that no other theme park has managed to create. There are loads of hotels inside the park, just outside and further out. They all have that Disney theme but the closer you are the more themed it is and more expensive. My kids loved it when they had dinner with some of the Disney characters. Make sure you get a hotel or booking that also induces the early extra hour. This gives you access to the park an hour before the gates open and means you can go on a ride or two before the crowds make the queuing a pain. There are actually 2 parks next to each other, the Main Disney park and Disney Studios. Now, if I was just going on the rides and rushing between them I could easily do each park in a day, but that's not how it will workout. At any given time there are themed activities going on around the park that are not park rides. You might be somewhere and then realize that you have an hour to get over to watch the parade or fireworks etc, so you will make your way over, watch that and then make your way back. The parks each have multiple zones that can take a good few hours to explore each one. Expect leg ache, as we were doing 27,000 steps per day. EDIT - I can manage 3 days max for me and then I'm Disney'd out. EDIT 2 - I would probably do Disney for 2 or 3 days and then head to Paris.

If you are a Google School then everything links in really well with Google Sites. Staff can upload files to the website by just adding them to their Google drive and it becomes a learning platform very easily.

ESS can supply the docs / info to do this yourself. Last time I did this, I just followed their steps and it all worked. I think they even have a migration tool for going to new server / SQL version automatically.

Should I have uninstalled the DNS role, before demoting? I assumed that, as the DNS role gets automatically installed when adding the DC role, it would also get removed during the demotion / uninstall process of the DC role. Logged onto a few remote clients and servers and all seems OK. Just need to know what I should do about the old server entries in DNS on the new server.
