Morning all this may be a long one! I have a very strange problem at hand! I have a Fujitsu Amilo Pro V3515 Laptop, standard parts no addin cards etc. This laptop connects to my wireless network through a HP 420 WAP, we have these setup all around school, everybody else can connect fine. On our network we have a number of servers, all have static IP's and all are Fujitsu Kit, we use HP switches throughout. When a user tries to logon to the network using this laptop they can successfully logon as our DC's are server3 and server4, no problem's yet. When the user has logged on they do not get presented with the regualar desktop or start menu, the reason for this is because our shared start menu and desktop for both staff and students is stored on server5. Ok here comes the problem........ I cannot ping server5 from the laptop, nor can server 5 ping the laptop back. I have tried uninstalling an re-installing the hardware and the drivers. I have tried removing the wireless card from the laptop and re-seating it, in the hope that this may help, it didn't. I can however, after setting a static IP on the laptop, ping the server for 3/4 pings on average. But even so the server still cannot ping the laptop back. I can connect to the same router with another laptop and ping any server I like, even server 5, so its not a router problem. The weird thing is, I can ping any other machine on our network from the offending laptop, just not our server5. The laptop and the server are on the same subnet, the IP range is correct etc. Anybody any ideas? Dan

With managed switches you would be able to sort these "blips" out easily with the software included like proCurve Manager and the inbuild software. Procurve FTW every time!

Have you checked the permissions of the folder where menu.xml resides?? I do remeber something about it trying to write back when opening the program. Try using FileMon for Windows and RegMon for Windows to discover what is being accessed then check against what pupils have access to. This may solve your problems. D

From experience Dreamweaver and other Adobe titles are a nightmare to install using the silent install option, if I were you i would ave yourself the hassle and problems (as there will be many) an just buy the RM Package, as they mostly work out of the box. RM Packages FTW!!! D

What do you have at your place? We have the following:- 7 Servers * 3 x Domain Controllers, File Servers * 1 x Exchange * 1 x Sims Admin * 1 x Anti-Virus and Testing * 1 x Image Server 1132 Workstations 210 Laptops in 7 trolleys 150(+) Staff Laptops That's about the main thing's anyway! D

Well it will get rid of any bottle necks you have. As the 1400 Series has 22 x 1000 base-t sockets you have to persume that your workstations also have capable network cards in there also to handle the speed, otherwise the upgrade is pointeless. If they do then the upgrade will probably be worth the money, all though I think that if you bought and installed the switches yourself, you would get better value for money. If you dont have the tech expertise to do the managed part just pay for them to come do that part for you, the money you save spend on doing the office up a bit! D

Simple solution to this problem is to restart your "Server" service. To do this run this in a batch script! @echo off net stop lanmanserver net start lanmanserver exit But after reading the other posts im not quite sure about that! Given you have done a reboot etc.

Personally I have worked with both Fat and Thin, but its Fat FTW for me everytime! D

Well lets face it, we IT people aren't the healthiest of people what with the dust, and the office chair's etc etc etc!!! Lets put it this way, theres guna be a shortage of IT staff when this blows over and a lot of work for the remaining few! Or am I just thinking the worst case situation!?
