  1. This is probably not recommended to test on live servers as this could stop users working if you do something wrong!
  2. I have a full set of Microsoft Press books for Server 2003 and 2008! They cost a fair bit but get school to pay for them for you as educational media! They are well worth having. Also the idea to have a VPC Server is a good one, I have one at home to test my ideas on safely, if it goes wrong just restore the image file! D

  8. Ooop! Your bad not my Bad! Try a program called "Recover my Files" by a company called "Get Data Back" it may take a while though as it searches sector by sector! It depends what part of the HDD the files were on, if the image of the OS has gone over the top you may have trouble, if not you may get the stuff back easily. You may want to try some of the following free tool that are on Hirens Boot CD (its a life saver that CD it has the works) http://www.hirensbootcd.net/screenshots.html D

  10. Personally I don't like anything like this, im not squeamish but a bit of a Health Concious person, the regular suff, gym, watching what I eat ect so when something like this comes along its not good! Im not really too bothered about it as its just flu, but the fact that people have died from it without other health problems does worry me a little. Im all up for the jokes and stuff, I just hope were right to be mocking it, if not were guna have some very big problems! I'v read too many Dan Brown books lol!! My 2 penneth anyway, im off to go de-contaminate! D
  11. Yep we have a confirmed case this afternoon, should I get the hazmat out or what?
  12. Well its happended, we have all had the letter saying that a person from our school has been diagnosed with Swine Flu, right battern down the hatches lock yourself in the server room!!!
  13. How are you ghosting, using the ghost cast server or just connecting a mapped drive? If you are using a mapped drive it will be because you may have old switches that do not support layer 2/3 thus you are asking for a feed for each computer you are ghosting, this is called unicast and can slow the network down alot. If you use the ghost cast server then you can multicast as this will help network congestion as it sends out packets that more than one recipient can pickup, thus lowering the amount of data flowing accross your network as there is only 1 stream of ghost packets not hundreds. See [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast]Multicast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] for more info D
  14. Hi Everybody, I travel to a lot of different schools working for my company, they all have the same basic network design, 5 - 10 servers depending on the size of the school and their requirements / budget, we keep the networks same so that anybody from our company can go to any site and work there pretty easily! The only difference is with the Ghost share, we dont have a standard for that so we always have to spend ages trying to find which server it is on. So I thought to myself yesterday, why don't I just write a script that will search for the ghost share, connect to that share and start ghost for me. I use a netbook disk from NetBootDisk.com - The Universal TCP/IP Network Bootdisk for M$ Networks, using this you can specifiy menu preferences for TCP/IP and such like. You can also specifiy a Logon file that will run when contct has been made with the network and a IP has been assigned succesfully, this is where I plan to place my script to search for the Ghost share and connect it for me. I've tried the script and it works a treat so I figue you guys might want to use it as well? It's fairly simple but saves a bit of time if you are ever in the situation I am in sometimes. 15. I've always used Velbon Video Tripods as they are very stable, made well and have excellent fluid heads if you go for the higher up models! D
  16. Created a new account, moved old files to the new account. Forwarded all the email from the old account to the new one, moved mail and folder structure from old account to new account. She has 1 month to let her external contacts know that she has a new email address before the account expires 1 month from today! As Gordon Ramsay would say...DONE!! D
  17. My girlfriends friend has Swine Flu, thank god we haven't seen her for a while! Hope she gets better soon
  18. When a member of staff comes to and asks for their username for the network logon and also their email to be changed due to getting married or any other reasons, what do you do? For me I usually tell them that this would be a bad idea as it could cause more problem's than it is worth, also that who ever has your email address now, when they send you mail it will not reach you due to the email address change etc etc... I'd like to know the views on this from you guys! D
  19. Really?!?! Us IT people dont have live up to stereotypes sometimes!

  24. You should have a cPanel for your domain, if not get one installed by your ISP there about £30-£50 and well worth it, from there you will be able to update your MX and lots of other settings. Dan
  25. Thy shalt not request a problem to be fixed then go into great detail about how your problem is the greatest of all evils to man kind! Thy shalt not wander into the holy server room un announced and proclaim that "The network is down" when really you have just forgot to turn your wireless on. Thy shalt also not wander into the holy server room un announced and proclaim that "The internet is down" as thy shall get the answer, "What the whole internet?!??! Here comes the appocolypse then!" If I think of any other things that bug me ill put em up shortly! D
