Hi, If you set up and alias in DNS for say Serverone that resolves to Server_one then I would presume that as it is just going to resolve the alias to the actualy hostname that it would not work with SW, as you say SW does not like _'s. Why do you want to use IIS anyway when you have SW, you should go for Apache on a seperate box either on the RED for External access or GREEN for Internal then setup DMZ for access either way. Dan

If your machines are network connected IE have an IP but are not on your Domain, then you can add a local printer using a Standard TCP/IP port, this should remain after logon/logoff. Otherwise use a script in local GP to add it on logon or startup? Dan

I was thinking more a long the lines of a script that would use environment variables to redirect to a share on a data box rather than a solution that can be bought! A simple file transfer of deleted work to a give place on the network for backup and restore in case of emergency. Ill do some digging and let you know when I find anything. Dan

Hi, I am wanting to start a project so that I can redirect all Staff and Students Recycle bin to a workstation that has say 2 x 1TB HDD's which purge themselves every month to free up space. This would be usefull to me as I have alot of Staff and Students that loose work! With this is place I would be able to connect to the share and copy the deleted file back onto their work area. Any thoughts on how this might be done? Dan

Hi, Still no joy, when I log onto the same workstation Word Checks inside the text box fine so one would presume that it may be an issue with the users profile? Should I rename her Application Data folder so a new one is created on startup? Might this solve the issue? Dan

Hi, I am having real trouble getting Word 2007 to spell check inside a text box! The document is a letterhead that our receptionist is using, it is setup so that the all the images and bacis setup are on the page then the text goes inside a text box so to not change the pages origional layout. But word will not spell check the any text that goes inside the textbox, although it will autocorrect to using capital letters and grammatical errors, but not spelling errors. If you could shed any light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Dan

Hi, I don't think that you have anything to worry about, IP conflicts can be common issues if you do not keep accurate records of your static IP addresses. Usually these issues are caused by such things as an old printer being plugged into the network that was previously using that static IP. Another issues I have come accross before is Network Photocopiers, have you had your Resources Photosopier Support team out lately, if so they will have probably added it to the network for your Resources Technician to be able to print over the network, and being such helpfull guys they don's always ask for a reserved IP and just pick one that they think can't possible be used, and its always the case that because its a low range they use that its 9 / 10 times a PDC or SDC? Try using Tracert to resolve the Hostname of the devices so that you can track down what the other device is, a neat little tool for this would be Agilent Network analyzer Standard Edition, you have to register for it but its free and its very good. Let me know if you don't get this issue sorted soon and Ill dig out some more ideas for you to try. Dan

Hi, I would definatly go for using smoothwall! This is an excellent program, it comes as ISO, burn it to a CD, install and off you go. All you need is an old workstation of basically any spec with 2 network cards. one RED and one GREEN for you External and Internal Networks. It can be configured in anyway you like and because its open source you get full access to all the files if you want to change anything. Excellent Program! Dan

Hi, Our ICT Department is currently trying to use the Yacapaca Website that I am sure most of you will be aware of, if you aren't the address is "http://www.yacapaca.com", i'm not going to go through the notions of saying what it is and why its good just look for yourself. We are registered with the site, both staff and pupils can log onto the site. But when pupils log on, they get no test assigned to them, this is also the case for staff. I have checked externally, and this is not the case, the website works correctly as it should. Now, there are few things that could be causing these issues --> 1. YHGFL who we get our internet connection from is somehow in all there glory blocking the content that holds the tests, so my question to you is; do you use Yacapaca and are you on YHGFL Broadband, if so do you have trouble with the website? 2. Our GPO settings, this is what I am hoping it is, as this can easily be changed, YHGFL cannot! Do you know of anywhere within GP that can restrict cookies, notably session and permenent cookies? If you do please post the location here! 3. Cosmic Rays from the sun blocking out all exams for pupils around the Potefract area that are trying to use YacaPaca as its Friday (slim chance but who knows) Thanks in advance. Dan

Then save the file as C:\logon.bat Once this is complete open GPEDIT.MSC and navigate to either Computer Configuration if you require the sciript to run when the workstation start up, or User Configuration if you require the script to run when the user logs on. In either of these section you can specify Start Up or Logon Scripts under the Windows Settings title. Dan

Hi, When using Group Policy to redirct your Desktop and Start Menu the re-directed item will only be available if the workstation is connected to the network. If the user logs on locally or using a cached network profile then the re-directed Desktop and Start Menu will not be available thus will not be loaded into the user profile. The way to get around this is to create a folder on the Local Drive of the workstation, load all your items that you wish to be located on the users Start Menu and Desktop. Then use GP to redirect to that location, for example "C:\Redirect\StartM" and "C:\Redirect\DeskT" If you also want the folders to be re-directed when logging in locally use the local GPEDIT.MSC to configure the same GP Objet to redirect when a network cannot be reached.
