It works well with Windows but not very well with Linux unfortunatly! Thanks anyway for the suggestion. D

I would recommend install SCVMM as well its very helpfull and it can do P2V alot better than Disk2VHD can! D

For file servers you can virtualize the OS and use Direct I/O passthrough on a SAN or iSCSI for the Data drive. Thay way you have even less hardware and are left with a lovely expandable Storage box also! D

Hey all, I currently have a Censornet 3.3r5 box that sits in my rack and happily runs 24/7/365. Recently it has become overloaded at heavy usage times. We run Server 2008 R2 and SCVMM (Service Centre Virtual Machine Manager). I am wanting to convert my Linux box to be a virtual linux box but i have heard that is it not a simple process?!? I was hoping that I would be able to dump the HDD of the linux box onto storage using Ghost and then Load the HDD onto the VM Drive. CPU compatability shouldn't be a problem as SCVMM supports emulating processors and luckily in our current box we have a P4 2.66 HT, in the available emulated processors box on SCVMM this processor is listed. Has anybody had any exp of this kind of P2V previously, if so Id love a good natter about it on here! EDIT: Found this googlin' - http://www.windley.com/archives/2007/08/p2v_how_to_make_a_physical_linux_box_into_a_virtual_machine.shtml Cheers Dan:mullet:

Hi everybody! I run Seti@home and have done for a few years now, I have created a group and was wondering if anybody was interested in joining! The group is located at Project Cerberus I currently have about 15 people who are singing up to the seti project, I would be very greatfull if you could spare some free processing time! If we get enough people from Edugeek on the group we may become UK # 1, that would be good! If your not sure what seti is, please see SETI@home remember to join Project Cerberus after you have joined up and connected to the seti at home project! Thanks in advance! Dan

We have P-Counter installed, I think it may be that which is causing our issue, its currently working though, their advice is to leave it and see what happens then worry about it when something goes wrong, as up to press they cannot help us any further as its not an issue they have ever had before! We have a Student View DFS share setup that is mapped for all teaching staff to be able to view the students work areas. I once had lots of teachers coming to me saying, omg pupil X has a full copy of my My Documents please delete them quickly, this happened numerous times, when I went to look for the said documents they were never there, so I blamed it on the teacher not being able to use a computer properly! Turns out, that when the teacher was browsing the documents of a given pupil and saw the folder named "My Documents" they automatically assumed it was their documents folder not realising that it was just a shortcut that the pupil had created to their own docs. But as we work on Environment variables, when the teacher opened the shortcut it took them to their own documents, thus they though that the pupil had a full copy of their documents, I explained this to them afterwards and they still didn't understand and wanted to make sure that their documents were deleted..........i should have done as they asked and deleted their documents lol!! Duh!!! D

Hi, Is there a way to remove the "Search the internet" link from explorer? Students are using it to search for games sites. Try it, go to my docs, press CTRL+E then press search the internet, when the window is minimized it looks like they are on my computer but thay are actually on the internet, also the games sites they are searching for are on our censornet block list but aren;t being blocked, anybody any ideas?? D

Not a bad rig I suppose given its age! How does it work for computers is it same as dogs, 1 year equals 7 dog years so 1 year equals 7 computer years?? D

Do you not have a Copy / Backup of your previous settings? What was the IP of the box before hand?

I'd agree, DNS is your problem, I have the view that a Smoothwall is one step down from Godlyness, I run one at home and its funny I NEVER get a virus or any bad traffic! Smoothwall for the win every time in my eyes. But it does have to be configured right. Try using 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 for your DNS, thats openDNS's free servers and they are really good, otherwise try google public DNS, I have heard good things about them! D
