Easy answer to the 2 per lesson, just another code for "both"?
-
I heard once that you could create lesson attendance codes for things like this and then just map them to the present mark. So a K might be "no kit" but would appear in statistics like a "/". Not experimented yet so can't confirm it works.

Not at all, there are various ways of getting SIMs to do clever stuff from within SIMS - the things you can do with the personal homescreens is pretty awesome. Have a look at aspect/resultset analyses under Focus | Assessment. SIMS Discover can do a lot of basic data extraction stuff, and it's almost idiot proof to use with nice primary colours! (this is free and you should have it in school already) A lot of schools use 3rd party software to do the number crunching, but it's not live, there is an extraction and upload to do usually. Although technically possible - it's just hugely frowned upon to go playing with the SQL DB directly, even if you are sensible and create a read only account to do it. It's overkill, but it's the way of MIS suppliers to minimise the ways we can break their products.

SCR for visitors? What exactly are you recording each time someone visits??

So you want a system to do what SIMS InTouch does? I think they wouldn't make any money from InTouch if you could easily get SIMS to do it directly

Welcome George No touching the SQL!!!! (official position stated) Bugs the hell out of me, with my last MIS I did a hell of a lot of work using sql queries which could do stuff in a fraction of the time that the MIS proper could do it, and I could also link things that you couldn't using the UI. Command Reporter just allows you to run reports out of hours, nothing more special than that from what I can tell. The other way is to buy an off the shelf package - search this forum for SISRA, 4Matrix etc for more info.

@PhilNeal, it's not reassuring when you get "an unexpected error has occured" whenever you click on search results.... https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/forums/thread/staff-management-su/9bbb7351-4ed5-e411-8cef-0050568b4baf#a4bb7351-4ed5-e411-8cef-0050568b4baf does this error out for anyone else?

For things like that I add the year group - (HoY can see this) and form groups - (Form Tutors can see this.) Now an easy fix for this issue (faster and easier than waiting for a rewrite of SIMS!) is to publish (export to excel) the marksheet to an intranet, shared drive or a system like 4matrix/SISRA etc. Also from looking at the screenshot, I might relabel my columns so that the average teacher can make sense of it.
-
a 3rd condition would seem easier than having to mess around with result history? OR actually, are you storing the average in the final column? do you need to store the result? I suspect you wouldn't even need the 3rd condition if it was calculated live rather than calculated then stored.
-
the colour WILL change if they colours were the result of a calculation in the first place. However - have you locked the resultset that the aspects are attributed to? Cos then it won't actually save.

I've not managed it, marksheets tend to require explicit permissions. What is going on this marksheet for ALL staff to see?

There's a stock report for this?

Problems trying to amend RAISEonline

some of those kids don't have ks2 and therefore not included in VA? -
In my last school our bottom set was put in for entry level english rather than GCSE, obviously worth diddly squat to the school. The reasons given were similar, that it was in the child's best interest to do the easier course. However one day the english teacher who actually taught them decided to give them a go at GCSE, they did much better than expected and we actually got a grade B out of one of them! Sometimes you create a self fulfilling prophecy if you set your expectations too low.

I'd moderate this statement with, it's your responsibility to discuss this with line management as the IT professional that you are. It's in the interest of the school, your team and the student themselves that the terms of support are clear and agreed. When push comes to shove we do as directed by the Head, but we aren't doing our jobs properly if we don't provide genuine advice to inform their decision making. In your situation I'd want to have a restore partition on the device to minimise valuable technician time getting the device back up and running if there's a fatal software issue. Hardware issues should be either covered by warranty, or if caused by the student, their recognizance. It was bad enough when we were part of the original ICT Testbed initiative and we had to support home hardware purchased for every member of staff. The horror stories!

and it can't just in single page print rather than duplex?

[sims] Assessment - Attach a result to seveal Result Sets at the same time?
bobsmith replied to iceman's topic in MIS Systems
that sounds cool, but yeah more work at the SIMS end. How about a monster marksheet with a formula columns to copy the target from resultset A to resultset B, resultset C etc?- 5 replies

electronic responses can be used in court, so i guess they are good enough for signing a form Which of those you listed does TASC NOT do?

I got given last year's RAISE to summarise (yep summarising a summary!) and write up suggestions as to the underlying causes like @Seb1780 above. I also got given a ridiculously easy excel task to do, they estimated something like 35 minutes for the excel task, so i had 32 minutes to triple check my work. All depends on your (employer) expectations of what this person will be spending their time doing. I think the excel task should be tiered in difficulty, so first task is easy, 2nd task builds on first task but steps up the challenge etc. this will allow you to judge better their competency. It's probably better than a pass/fail test.

[sims] Adding a page break to an Individual Report
bobsmith replied to ieuan99's topic in MIS Systems
Is it not consistent when you put the break in a table? I'd imagine it would be an issue if you have a table with all your subjects in it, then put a break somewhere in the table. This is because not all rows would render if you have optional subjects as not all students would study them. Is this the case?
