  1. I largely gave up with this, but one hurdle I overcame was that you issue a behaviour of "achieved bronze" etc. This is your record that the milestone has been reached, then you can use that to stop duplicates.
  2. I did this move about 10 years ago, never looked back. The biggest PITA was moving the user's documents from the admin network to the curriculum network, but with the benefit of hindsight we didn't do it the easiest way - we had lots of local admins with local files. SIMS is presumably used on your curriculum network already? Is it just the case that the database is installed on your admin network servers?
  3. I used KKS at my last school, then convinced me new school to switch to it's successor (RS ConnectEd) as I found KKS so easy to run and very competitively priced. It also has the fringe benefit of alerting me to which parent's have invalid numbers, missing numbers etc. With the App available now you can make the cost to parents zero (Once you get them set up on it!) If you want more integration with your MIS you can go down the route of schoolcomms which looks good. If you have loads of money and want all your products from the same supplier you can always get intouch (for SIMs schools)
  4. Focus >> Assessment >> Aspect Analysis >> Pick the aspect analysis you are going to use/clone Click on rows, you should then have an "new" button as one of the options.
  5. I ended up deleting them one by one, didn't find a faster method last time I looked
  6. Is there any pressing reason for keeping your admission applicants in SIMS?
  7. So how are you planning on deleting them if you can't find them in the first place? While SQL is fun and very powerful, with SIMS in particular it's a really bad idea to do anything other than look. (and even looking seems to upset the Capita bods.) If the problem was caused by a user messing around then the solution will be through SIMS, if the database has been messed around with (or has gone wrong all by itself) then Capita may well start charging.
  8. General good practice is that an aspect/result set combination should only be writable in one template. You can have another marksheet that shows it read only, but I would never personally have it available to change in two templates at once.
  9. Would there be a time when there are no students assigned to the class? If it's really ad hoc rather than regularly scheduled, you may be better off looking at their new Activities module.
  10. We've got a humongous problem with getting registers completed in lessons, however technical solutions like blocking access just get in the way of the even more important stuff like teaching. It's fundamentally an accountablility and leadership issue. The long term fix which worked very well in my last school is to do all the chasing up on the day, and then compile a weekly list and have the SLT responsible for attendance have a word with them. I went from pages of classes not completed to 1 or 2 a day. This then makes walking up to the lesson and staring at the teacher meaningfully a much more manageable task. It's gotta be an expectation that it's done.
  11. As what you are doing here is a change to the school day, what kind of issues do you think you are likely to see with lesson monitor? Your AM/PM needs to be properly set up regardless of these extra periods.
  12. Can you find them in Applicants? If not then you've got Ghosts in your database.
  13. they smell like guest pupils to me, can you find their individual records in SIMS and look at their enrollment status?
  14. The effective date does act a bit like a time machine, so say you wanted to know who was on roll on a certain date, you could use the effective date. Or if you had set changes throughout the year, you can see what set they were in. But I don't think it works that way with attendance.
  15. Can you add their school start date to the report and have another look at the output? I have a feeling that maybe that could be an issue here.
  16. like a transition matrice, so all the kids who came in at a level 3 and are currently getting a grade C would be in one box?
  17. Tools >> Setups >> Lesson Monitor Setup is the path I think RootsSchImp is referring to. Extra periods aren't necessarily a problem, We have a lunch lesson and a period 5, The students who do a lunch time lesson and not period 5 varies each day.
  18. I haven't found any of my reports that can examine attendance between two dates (which is what you're really after). However the built in reports via Reports >> Lesson Monitor do have that facility. Are any of those capable of giving you what you need? It may be a matter of taking one of those reports and using excel to merge the output with the other data you want to add.
  19. I've only ever used SOLUS 3, but I've found that after the initial installation it's been so simple to manage. Updates just need to be manually released once you've updated your SIMS server and the clients sort themselves out.
  20. you can create a SQL account with read only access and execute the scripts with that. Gives you a bit more peace of mind.
  21. oh and my follow up post if I hadn't wandered off was that I think it should be unticked (at least it is for us). Also what Capita said!
  22. in tools - academic management - course manager - course manager settings there is a tick box for "auto update class supervisors from chosen course supervisors". is it ticked?
  23. Just had a play with this because I was initially confused by what you were saying. Our student profiles (which we have set to produce as a word document within SIMS) do indeed appear listed as blahblah.xml when you look at a students "linked documents". But in reality they are .docx which is the new xml based MS Word document format. They open straight into Word as expected. You wouldn't want to open them in an xml editor surely?
  24. And you did this while the profile session was active? It stops us from doing this....
  25. You can change the output, the actual word template used for printing the reports. You can also change any marksheets used to collect data that is then used in the output. You CAN'T change the statement banks* *you can reword existing statements but neither add or remove statement banks.
