Keeping Parent Data up to date - how do you do it?
bobsmith replied to RobFrain's topic in MIS Systems
attach a sweet to each one? In all seriousness, it's gotta be a bit of carrot and stick. Do you offer your parents some kind of benefit, like a parent portal to your MIS. -

Progresso uses SSRS, Facility CMIS uses a bespoke reporting engine. -
[CMIS] to [SIMS] Running a CMIS report from a SIMS exported one.

assessment data is stored totally differently in SIMS and CMIS. In CMIS you have something similar to an aspect - but it can apply to any subject, in SIMS it's one aspect per subject. You're better off asking CMIS users for a report they already have that does what you want, rather than trying to do a translation from SIMS to CMIS. Can you post up an example of the output you want, rather than the method of getting it? -
The most reliable way to do this kind of thing is to use the AutoFilter with a macro, it's pretty simple once you've got your head round the basic. What it will do is copy only the data that meets all the criteria to a new array and then you have your simple count tell you how many rows have met all the criteria. It works with virtually unlimited conditions, including null criteria if they want to skip some of the drop downs. this kind of thing: VBA Code To Filter Data Then Copy & Paste Into Range

[CMIS] to [SIMS] Running a CMIS report from a SIMS exported one.

Oh and also CMIS can do 100x more things in reporting than SIMS, so any SIMS report you import is going to be far less capable than something you can write in CMIS natively. -

From my previous life using CMIS I would say that almost certainly not. -
[sims] Can you report on who owns a Lesson Monitor Mark?
bobsmith replied to kennysarmy's topic in MIS Systems
The code over a date range is best used for things like study leave - it affects BOTH AM and PM. If you're marking students in bulk because they are in an assembly it should be done through "edit marks" which allows you to precisely control where the marks end up. In that example you'd fill in the registers and then let the copy marks routine do it's stuff. -

it means that your teacher completes the lesson register and then SIMS will copy that mark to fill in the AM or PM register as appropriate. Which lesson it copies from is shown in Tools - Setups - Lesson monitor Setup, the period labelled "A" writes to the AM and "P" to the PM. This would do the trick to cause the issue you had. -
How have I never even seen "section 2" hiding down there??? OMG resolving conflicting marks is going to be ridiculously easy now!!!!!

So if I've got a clash on a student timetable you're saying I can withdraw them from a particular lesson and not the entire series? I've been using alternative curriculum for this and it's a royal pain in the ass.

Have you got the earliest marks routine enabled? This sounds like something my front office occasionally moan about, and my latest brain wave is that it's something along these lines. -

AM and PM are the two statutory registration sessions. They may not correlate to an actual timetabled lesson. We've got a RegAM and RegPM which are timetabled lessons which feed the AM and PM, but if they are missed for some reason "Earliest Marks" is taking the next lesson that is marked to populate those columns. Can I ask why you're entering "N" marks using that routine? Normally it's used to enter things like study leave or school closures (Snow etc). -
Create alternative curriculum activities in Nova-T and you will be able to remove students from random lessons (as long as they are the same each week). If the students are simply dropping some subjects entirely to do something else then the easy answer is to remove them from those subjects and schedule a different one in it's place.

Where would SIMs be pulling those session marks from in your screenshot? It shows Ns for RG2 and 5.... -
It could be an agency member of staff, they may not show up under current staff even with a start date if you only put a service term in rather than a contract.
-
Well it would still be infinitely easier to just use the inbuilt report, i just tested it and it works flawlessly and with a minimum of faffing. I've just had a play with writing an attendance report like you've described and the closest i can come to it involves dumping loads of raw data in excel and then adding it all up. Would definitely use the built in report!
-
the other thing could be that you really do have duplicate contacts. It's a frequent issue where admin staff don't check for an existing contact and create a new one, or the CTF is subtly different and SIMS creates a new one.

I thought private documents could only be seen by the creator?

https://tableschecking.education.gov.uk/ you'll need the headteacher to set you up an account (or whoever they have given delegated access rights to) before you can get in there. -
nevermind, the table you referred to is here: https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/101247 however that doesn't actually contain the source data - just the final figure. My original query was based on the fact that in the tables checking exercise there does not appear to be anything to show that they are even performing that calculation! I'll have to work it out from the source data that they have and see if it matches myself.
-
Anyone figure out where the papers got their 5+A*-Cs headline figures? I can't even find them in the DfE files on the tables checking site!
-
but only the dates would need to be accurate?

Well our local authority merge their records with our records (from the SIMS SWF xml output) then upload it to collect. Ultimately if you've got the xml you can upload to COLLECT, or give it to your local authority (If you're in a MAT I imagine that each academy will have to do their own straight into COLLECT?) So in short there are many ways to skin this cat. Presumably as long as you know the xml format you can do this all with some nice excel macros.

it's a thread hi-jack, but it's related enough I don't think it's worth starting a new thread. Has anyone tried the SIMS Teacher App on Windows 10 PCs yet? I've just installed it on an ancient laptop IT support had laying around, and it's awesome! Staff love the intuitive feel of the interface and the simplicity of use with the limited but important feature set. If anyone has used it in anger can they give any feedback?

It has it's own exporter executable that runs on the server (at least it did last time I was NM), I haven't experienced any issues with the export though, bit surprised by what @tekins is experiencing. Only figured out that it can sync staff into the system this week, one extra permission added to the SIMS user and a 2 minute phonecall to ConnectEds support team and my staff are now sync'd weekly.
