  1. I’m now about to work out how to pack all these freebies in my suitcase so I don’t have a third bag to carry though the Underground this morning!
  2. Well, thanks everyone I met today, it was excellent. Well worth spending my day off at BETT!
  3. Someone was wearing one, but I haven’t seen any being handed out. Might go ask...
  4. Handed my form in a short while ago. Fingers crossed!
  5. I’ve just got a small Lego kit from Microsoft! To get it, what you need to do is find the Microsoft vending machine in the middle of the foyer, send a tweet with the hashtags to win the bag. If you take that to the STEM section of the Microsoft stand, you can either wait to build a model or they’ll fill the bag with the pieces you need to take home
  6. Oh please, please, please! Profile Manager has driven me insane for years.
  7. I was thinking I might take the cable car anyway so that makes that decision easier! Thanks for the heads up!
  8. Just waiting for the crowds to die down (The Northern Line in South London is hell in the mornings, trust me!) and then I'll be along!
  9. Heard that on the tannoy as I was crossing central on the Tube. What a nuisance for you!
  10. No, I am in agreement with you on this. I was mainly hoping for High Sierra so we got the most out of it in terms of support/plus match some new Macs we’ve bought that aren’t part of my network. But I think Sierra is going to be the better choice. Particularly now if the major issue I had with Profile Manager is sorted.
  11. I’ve still yet to work out last year’s, so I stand no chance.
  12. Is this the login or local items keychain? Login is normally attached to user passwords and so should local items but I have had a few occasions where the local items one has gone awry, probably down to sync issues in the past with mobility accounts. I've found the fix for that is to go into the user's library in their home folder, find the keychains folder and delete the folder with a random string of letters and numbers, then reboot. This will delete the existing keychain but it should recreate itself and get back to normal.
  13. Hi folks, I'm not expecting anyone to have answers this but I'm desperate to find some sort of solution and hoped a discussion might lead to an epiphany here! Basically, I'm currently in the process of testing out High Sierra with the eventual goal of upgrading our now old Mac network still operating on OS X Mavericks 10.9. Having solved the initial problem of Profile Manager not pushing out preferences (thanks to DNS issues!), I've now set off with the main task of looking at Open Directory itself. All fine so far, and I've worked out how to get network home folders from a share, however the bizarre issue is that macOS Server will not create the home folder in the share when I create users! Which is a bit of a problem because no home folder = no library = chaos... Has anyone come across this so far and know any way around it? I know High Sierra is still new but I'm hoping there might be some idea from Sierra or something I can try! Fingers crossed.
  14. I'll definitely be heading in your direction on Friday, looking forward to it!
  15. I lost count of the number of times I got stopped last year purely because of my t-shirt inspired by The IT Crowd! I'll have to see if I can provide anything different this year...
  16. I'll have to come say hi and thank you in person for your help last year!
  17. Last received a cheque a couple of months ago from a friend paying me back for various things. Last written one was probably many years ago when I paid for driving lessons with them. Believe it or not, but I actually have a left handed cheque book!

    Gaming Chat

I'd be potentially up for it. I have very rarely played GTA Online on the PC, I think for about half an hour before I lost interest in it. Doing it as part of a group could be more interesting.
  19. I've gone one better. I've got a new name, made an email address using my own domain name, invented a company name based on said domain, and even come up with a backstory for my unusual name. My job title is also "Co-founder and CTO" of this company! Thought I'd go all out...
  20. Asking the important questions here. Meanwhile, my false identity has been set up. I feel like I've turned into Dave Gorman doing this as I've tried to see what I can get away with. If you spot someone with a slightly odd name on Friday, it might be me...
  21. As I'm not going to be at BETT on behalf of work, I've decided to assume a pseudonym to protect myself from unwanted sales calls. (I'll be good and have a real badge made for the suppliers I do work with though, and any I do think might be of interest, I'm not totally cruel!)
  22. Pretty much! So normal service then.
  23. As it happens, I’m off work on the Friday and in London with not much to do. Tempted to register just to come say hi/grab some freebies!

    Restore Mac OS

That is the lovely thing with Macs, the recovery options are so simple, no trying to download the right thing or find a suitable disk. Even if you change the hard drive (and so lose the recovery partition), it’ll download a copy from Apple’s servers to allow it to boot.

    Restore Mac OS

That’s correct. Command - R will get you into recovery. Wipe the disk in Disk Utility and then select Reinstall macOS from the first menu and it’ll download a new copy straight from the internet and install it.
