  1. I've just come across this tool for configuring the dock in my own research with Profile Manager. Supports adding network volumes too. Basically, it will either create a profile or a package that can be installed to configure the dock. It seems to get around the limitations on this in Profile Manager! Dock Master - A Superior Profile Maker for Managing the Dock ? Techion
  2. One tip that I was given if this isn't possible, e.g. no remote shutter, is to hold a piece of white card over the lens while you do touch the camera. But definitely if you can get away with not doing so, much better.
  3. Even better that it's unintentional! Meanwhile, here's a photo I took in Brussels last weekend that I'm quite pleased with. I was just messing around with the camera on my phone!
  4. The one with the green tent reminds me of one of the default wallpapers in Windows 10! Deliberate?
  5. I guess you could boot into the recovery mode (cmd + r), select the reinstall option and reinstall the OS. As long as you don't wipe the drive first, it will just download a fresh copy of macOS and install it in between your files and everything should boot as it was. Could be worth a go!
  6. No sign of thunderstorms here in East Anglia. Given how uncomfortable last night with the temperature and humidity, I think they're probably long overdue. Forecast is showing them appearing tonight, but then they said that about last night too.
  7. 31 here in London. I’m sweating buckets. Dread to think what the Tube is like currently!
  8. Well, I’m enjoying this thread. Also making me realise I miss Time Team being on Channel 4!
  9. The Olympus engine was great for that. I remember being near Heathrow when the first Concorde departed after the accident in 2001. I was about 2-3 miles away and the windows were still shaking a bit!
  10. You have my sympathy, while I've never had surgery, the idea of it genuinely terrifies me for some reason. I get the feeling that this is what my Dad had about 10 years ago. Now he's someone that's used to surgery, having various knee replacements etc. over the years. I don't remember all the details but I do remember being surprised at how small the scars were, and I seem to remember he came out and recovery time wasn't long at all, I don't think he's thought about it since.
  11. As it happened, yesterday I saw a Hispano HA112 flying much like the one that caused the debate a couple of weeks ago! Meanwhile, latest contribution for the thread...
  12. I believe there have been some two seat versions. However, I'm not convinced this is a Bf 109. It looks very similar but there's a couple of things that don't look right to me, like the rounded air intake under the engine and the back of the canopy sloping down the meet the top of the fuselage. Pretty sure that the Bf 109 went straight back. What is is, however, I'm struggling on!
  13. I know a lot of people were hoping for dark mode in iOS, understandable with the move to OLED screens, but it's really nice to see macOS get some interesting new features! I like the sound of the dynamic desktop.

    cycling

I’ve got an electric bike so I don’t arrive sweaty or wear Lycra, but this is the reason why I keep my helmet on until I reach my office!
  15. On a similar level, I was flying gliders and then light aircraft long before I ever learnt to drive. Always had the idea that I’d get my PPL before any driving licence, but sadly never happened. Steam trains are yet to be ticked off my list though, one day.
  16. I use DMDE for data recovery. It can be quite advanced at times but I’ve had very good results from it. The amount of alcohol and chocolate I’ve been bought because I’ve rescued the data of someone’s disk that’s on the verge of dying can attest to that!
  17. Announced on his Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh2FcndHgkC/
  18. I think this is what I've found recently. Profile Manager is great once you get it working but it does take a lot of effort to get set up and running in the first place.
  19. I had been more wondering if they would go down the co-processor line like they started to do, having their ARM-based custom processors running a lot of the basic functions for some power saving and leaving the main processor to be ran when needed. Switching completely would be an interesting strategy. Personally I’m not sure about it. Sure, Apple’s processors in iPhones and iPads are great, but I’m not sure that taking Macs in that direction is right. We’ll see though, maybe they have a trick up their sleeve.

    ebikes

This thread reminded me that I had been looking at getting an ebike a while back, so I've just been out for a test ride with the Gtech bike. My goodness that thing is fun! In maximum power mode, it really shoots off like a rocket. Definitely going to be ordering one later on! Probably the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time.
  21. My brother and I tested the theory that Facebook listens to you on a long car ride about 6 months ago. We started discussing all sorts of nonsense and the next day, he did indeed have adverts for a few of those things. In fact, some may have appeared in minutes. And this is why I don’t have the Facebook app installed on my phone (among other shady tactics that I know they use to get around some of the limitations put in place by iOS)
  22. I’m up for a few races potentially if I get the time. I’m big into sim racing but don’t really frequent online lobbies normally.
  23. I've just done a bit of a rough and ready test using my iPhone and MacBook, Duet does have an option to mirror the display under Advanced Settings. Works fine, but you still need to be tethered by cable as you'd expect.
  24. I've used Duet but mostly using the iPad as a second monitor for a Mac and a PC. I'd have thought duplicate would work with it but I've not tried.
  25. When my friend on the other side of the office door (I.e a teacher!) is in a chatty mood and we spend the morning just having a fun email conversation when we have a moment. It’s been a long time since she’s done that with me and I’ve missed it.
