  1. is it saying 100% all the time regardless of the actual disk usage? Thats an error I've seen, sat idle, 1mb/s r/w it'll read 100%, but set of a job to run and it'll jump to 100mb/s and still read 100% I'm not 100% sure the windows 10 disk resource monitor is actually any good. Have you disabled superfetch service? I've had some luck with that.
  2. saw beauty and the beast. the gaston sucks, but the new lefrue was awesome in so many ways.
  3. They are doing it to BT customers too. The old, hi we're from BT and we've detected some errors form your computer. Managed to keep one of them on the line for 30 mins over the weekend. I could feel the frustration at their end. It was beautiful.
  4. I liked the movie, the gore etc, well its wolverine. As for the whole marvel timeline stuff, well damn I have no idea how this all fits... what x-men timeline are we on now? Wasn't the last wolverine movie further in the future, if it was in the past wasn't his claws removed? I found it a bit like the last captain America movie, think to hard about it an the plot just doesn't work, so just enjoy it as the closet we'll ever get to a Tarantino x-men movie.
  5. its also worth avoiding the gas can route and getting a direct line out from your diesel tank. pay an expert to do it and its far more fire safe etc. Also means you can get a diesel cabin heater to keep yourself warm. Also check the below. The last line will be key. My wife lived and grew up in breen, camper van city in the summer. If someone turned up in a battered old transit they'd often get turned away. It has to look good, and like a camper from the outside or you might not get into a campsite. And some, including the one the missus worked at, checked the reg against the dvla to see what its classified as. in fact instead of me quoting it, here, read this: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/522756/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motorhome.pdf makes doing it sound more work than its worth ^^ buy an already done one ;P
  6. Theres a couple million BMW minis on the road who'd think your wrong. Aside, I'm just not sure where vauxhall and opel fits with peugeot and citreon. Kill off the DS's and move opel up market into an already crowded premium market? I'm actually considering a Mokka vs a 2008 atm. they are so close I can't see how 2 fit in one lineup. I guess the insignia can slot in where peugeot and citreon are normally week in teh saloon market but where does it leave the c3/ds3/208/corsa. or even c4/astra/308/ds4Thats a lot of cars competing against each other. Hell the smart thing to do would be to shutter opel/vauxhall
  7. saw john wick 2 last night plot is as feeble as ever, the action is as great as the first movie, might give a pass to Odeon in future though, i was 10 mins late in, and still had to sit through 40 mins of adverts. three quarters of a free-kin hour of ads, nearly an hour if you got to the movie on time.
  8. Teachers need to be taught and given access to presenter mode. I've found that, once a teacher has adopted it, makes a huge difference. No longer does all their notes have to end up on a slide. But as has been said, a bad teacher will be bad with a blackboard, VLE or OHP. AS was said above I too remember the days when my notes had massive gaps as the teacher would wipe the notes off his board befor you had a chance to write them down. In the end, what powerpoint and VLE's do is make the bad teachers slight less bad, as at least you have access to the notes.
  9. Given what these are, exe's for paint.net etcm could i be as lazy as to open the archive with 7zip and delete them?
  10. Simple as it says really. Is this safe to do? Someone built a deployment on a site we look after and some muppett left half a gig of files in the default users download folder. Que filled hard drives with 6gb of service accounts. Can I just delete the files from the .wim, as all they are is a handful of unused .exe files?
  11. I recently went that gaming laptop route. Loving it so far, 1070 and i7 to replace my desktop i5 and 970. I'm loving the space saving, and being able to play downstairs etc rather than being tied to my massive tower. unless you desperately want to change the form factor though i'd say don't bother. a 1080 with a 4th gen i7 isn't anywhere near out of date. why not go down the custom case route and re-use the internals? get a 4k monitor instead?
  12. not really, accident no-where near anything radioactive. Typical anti nuclear fearmongering from the guardian tbh
  13. Has anyone had an issue with windows 8.1 devices being unable to swap between users? Got some 8.1 enterprise asus t100's that won't let anyone else log on other than our admin user. Other options aren't even displayed. fast user switching is enabled There are 4 local accounts on the device, all are active. yet on the start screen there's no option other than the one user. if you logout there's only one option to log back in with there appear to be no group policies, other than the local group policies, hide entry points for fast user switching which is set to disable. pressing ctrl+alt+delete brings up switch user but only takes you back to the login screen with the one user available. seen lots of people having the error but no-one having a fix short of a re-install
  14. Hi Folks, I've recently got our computers to sleep and wake during the day to save valuable £££'s we have an issue we thought we had fixed. If a member of staff is logged on when the computer sleeps, they'd loose all they're redirected folders on shares when they logged back on. Easy enough fix, we just set the shares to auto reconnect. However on some of our newer SSD equipped PC's at the further ends of our network still lose their desktops. Right click > refresh solves this, so i'm thinking its a case of the computer being that bit to quick to log the user back on. Does anyone know of a fix for this... a delay we can apply to subtly slow down the unlocking of the computer?
  15. also worth noting that tpft and third party can be more expensive than fully comp, apparently people who look for those policies are considered higher risk.
  16. Well that would vary school to school and budget to budget really. Given the budgets in schools I'd say "we can't do the job without it" is about it But making admin especially efficient can save more money in the long run. Hell as IT making people efficient as possible is our job (as far as money permits) All the jobs in schools could be done without us, we're here to make them efficient.
  17. I'm not sure how much of an end user experiance we get though. We're running a completely different set of software on a different OS to the end users. And a powerful PC can sometimes be far cheeper than a server. our i7's were end of line stock that cost £400 each. I'm not sure how much of a server you could get for £1200, certainly not 12 cores and 48gb of ram. Not to mention having to pay for an extra windows server licence. as for "we need X to do the job too" Well depending on your environment, but If they can prove it with a good business case isn't it our job to provide it? (the same ofc applying to our having good PC's)
  18. Has anyone here ever paid for a future learn certificate? I've just completed one of their modules. It was pretty good and informative - if only for putting what I already knew into practice better. But would any of you pay for one of their certificates, are they well known enough that if someone came in with one on their CV it'd actually be worth something? Its about £80 but as I'm changing job soon I can't pass it off on a training budget ^^
  19. I think it depends what you do. I'm running an i7 4770, 120gb HDD with a raid 0 1tb array for my vm's to live on. Always at least 2 and sometimes many more. but whats probably more important for me is 3 decent screens. I'd be happy with an i3 and 4gb of ram 120SSD, as long as I can have 3 screens 2 at least full HD. I'd certainly think twice about a job that wouldn't provide that. AS has been said, if they aren't willing to provide the IT staff with decent kit, whats the rest of it going to be like.
  20. windows 7 still. I think S5 is disabled. They definitely wake from sleeping. The only BIOS setting I could see was WoL boot from desktop or LAN. I tried Both PXE boot is also enabled as is legacy boot. Is there another I'm missing that i need to change?
  21. The bios hasn't change either, no auto updates on. The network card itself is dead as a dodo. its not staying on when the machine turns off.
  22. they've definitely not been hard powered off. Its strange it just started happening about a week ago.
  23. has anyone had issues with these suddenly refusing to WoL? Ours were doing so happily but recently have decided not to. Nothings changed as far as I can see
  24. doing that course now, just finished week 1. Pretty solid tbh. More than most end users would understand, but would be great to make all staff do that first week >.< might get it through their skulls to have decent passwords and keep their gubbins up to date I did love the how to guide they did.
  25. Given how bad the default settings are for bing i'd say yes. But as strict.bing doesn't seem to work anymore we've just blocked bing. We've had outright porn popping up in default bing searches for words as innocent as mature
