You can add this to the customsettings.ini: DomainAdmin=User DomainAdminDomain=Domain.local DomainAdminPassword=password That's a way of doing it, obviously not the most secure thing, but if say it's just for a project it's not too bad. If it's a High School though, I'd strongly recommend leaving some kind of authorisation in place as all it takes is for one of them to work it out!

A bit of advice, as much as a school is cash strapped, when they begin taking donations and equipment is swapped out/fixed with almost zero cost, it starts becoming overlooked should they come in to money and somewhat expected. I've been in a similar position and in the end had to put a foot down with donations as they caused to many issues in the end and surprisingly and equipment began dropping left right and centre as desktops reached 10 years old, money suddenly became available to replace the decaying kit. Just be careful, it's like paddling in deep waters.

Classic shell is used by a lot of people and it is quick to set up and get working if you need something urgently, the Win10 menu and tiles are doable, but I miss the simpler times, which classic shell recreates.

NUCs are a good consideration, make rooms look really neat, low power consumption and have been very reliable for us. What issues are you having with Win10 and what hardware are you currently using?

The permissions have stayed with the VHDs for us, so just share the route folders again. We keep server names/IPs the same so don't have to redo any UNC Paths or GPOs. As for DCs, we have 3, so do them one at a time, demo/promote. Really easy, DCs we can do whilst the network is live. Have DHCP failover setup now too, that was a nice feature they added.

Same here, with running everything virtual, it's much cleaner and easier to start fresh. For things such as shares and whatnot these are all on separate VHDs from the OS, so we can just mount these to new VMs. HyperV has been a blessing.

If you can get the money together, it'd probably be best to do it all at once and get the Unifi Gateway for routing as the switches are L2, they support VLANs and they will work with other switches and routers, but nothing is better than a standarised system, it's easier to support and troubleshoot. The Unifi software is very good, I've not had an issue with it yet, there's a lot of support now too on their own forums and even edugeek as the community is growing as more and more people adapt it!

Genuinely if you're looking into spending £6k, you could replace the core switch with a Ubiquiti 16 Port Fibre Switch (Around £450exVAT) and you could get around 12 US-48 switches (£350exVAT) and the 10Gb modules to go with (Around £20 each). There's people running the kit on here and for the money it is very very good, I'd look into it as you'd definately see a benefit, heck, if you could squeeze to £10k, you could do all the switches, have a 10Gb backbone and 1Gb to clients.

I'd have a look at these for Core https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgeswitch-16-xg/ or the Unifi Version with a router. Also the switches you've listed above aren't 10Gb

It won't be in Google's terms and conditions as it's nothing to do with them really, it's down to the school and their policies. I imagine it's something you'd have to discuss with SLT and the person in question wanting this, are there any security risks and what not.

It's happening on a mix of machines apparenlty on 2015 and 2016 LTSB, not had a real chance to delve into it though, first thing to check is Impero and make sure that isn't causing issues.

A lot of people on here use Classic Shell for a Windows 7 like Start Menu, deployed via GPO and redirected just like the good ol' days. IIRC to get the XML to work, you can make it on a PC with the tiles how you want, export it, add that to a GPO along with the redirects for the programs and all should be dandy, there's a massive thread on the whole thing somewhere
