When I logged in just 10-15 mins ago, it said 2.0.2 was available so there must be a fair amount of bugs. Probably worth holding off unless there's something game breaking for which I haven't found any so far.

As we still have loads of CRTs, our Students get plenty of exposure to them which means they can't really turn around and say they've never seen or used one - assuming they know what one is in the first place!

We were quite lucky in that we'd only just purchased a new "Multimedia" PC in mid 1995 (of which came with an AMD Am486 DX4-100, 8MB RAM upgraded to 16MB a year later, 853MB WD Caviar HD, Soundcard, Quad-Speed CD-ROM & Windows 3.1) that when we decided to upgrade a year and a bit later, we only needed the CD version and could skip the pain of installing from floppies. However, we'd ended up with a non-upgrade OEM copy which wouldn't install while Win 3.1 was in the way (curse you Time Computers who supplied the copy, though not sure they should have done). So I had to sit and work out which files I had to delete in the Windows directory before it'd let me install 95. It was lovely to use once we did figure it out and although I'd heard the rumours about how unstable it was - never did experience that myself.

For me, once I saw the folder with it's 5GB+ content, I restarted my test PC then opened Windows Update which gave me the option to upgrade from there.

I've known about this for a little while (inadvertently, when an object fell on my keyboard) and while I do find it useful, I still find myself using the up/down arrow keys and F3 often. Fun fact: This functionality has been available as far back as MS-DOS 5.0 which included the first release of DOSKEY.EXE. However, it's not as nice to use as F7 only lists previous commands and doesn't let you select them. Somehow you're supposed to use doskey to execute those but I haven't yet worked out how. EDIT: Apparently it's F9, which asks for a line number from the F7 list which when inputted then displays that previous command. It's actually worth looking up DOSKEY on Wikipedia as this gives you a whole host of different commands and keys which also apply to the current command prompt.

I've been umming and arring about whether to ask and i'm probably being cheeky to ask, but would either of you (@sted or @3s-gtech) be willing (and whether your schools are willing) to send me a dozen of these new(ish) drives for the price of postage (or whatever?) If not, it's not a problem but I'd like to put drives like that to good use instead of just scrapping them.

We had the very same happen to us and a call to Impero revealed that they had changed how the software activates on their back-end activation server(s). Unfortunately for us however, we have a much older version - due to us being unable to afford the support contract - which will no longer activate based on the update they've done, though they assure us they are making changes which will allow us to re-activate at some point soon.

We had a similar issue with some of our HP desktop models with Intel network adapters where by WOL stopped working the moment I updated the drivers to ones from the Intel website, but fixed again once I reverted to drivers available from Windows Update. I guess there's a setting (hidden?) somewhere either in Intel's driver settings or in their management software but I was too lazy to find this out as since the windows update drivers worked fine, there wasn't any point.

Have to say this was bad timing for us as we have Ofsted in! Cue lots of very possibly angry teachers who can't teach their planned lessons. Of course, we say they should have a Plan B, but this isn't something you can easily tell them on the day.

Normally I don't go in without a linking book, but for some reason I had the silly idea that i'd end up back in the overworld on death. I'm in the one with end stone.

PCI-X cards are backwards compatible (i.e. will work) with standard PCI slots as I have 2 servers where I've had to fit PCI-X RAID cards into a normal PCI slot. The extra pins at the end provide extra bandwidth to the card but aren't imperative to the functionality of the card. This is in much the same way as PCI-e where a 16x Video card will work in a 1x (or 4x & 8x) slot if you cut out the plastic at the end of the slot to allow the card to fit. However, in both cases the speed at which the card operates will be reduced somewhat so you do need to factor that into whatever task you want the card to perform. Also, the first picture shows that the card is keyed in such a way which will allow use in both 3.3v and 5v slots so as long as there's no obstructions where the extra pins will sit, you shouldn't have any problems. Various people have also complained that the Fan Speed Controller is badly implemented too causing the fan to never ramp up if the PSU temperature rises. However, I've owned (and still own) the HX520, HX620 & HX750 Modular PSUs and haven't experienced either of these issues so can only assume their presence in either certain models or particular batches.

As a Group Policy Preference by the looks of it. More specifically, I had a bit of a search and it looks like you can change a registry entry which will do it but you'd either push it out via a logon script, or maybe a bit easier through a GPP Registry change. You aren't necessarily forced to use the injector as Ubiquiti do an inline adaptor Ubiquiti Instant 802.3af Indoor Adapter which converts their passive PoE devices to Active ones which should then allow you to connect them to a PoE switch of your choosing. You could argue that they should make their devices fully 802.3af compliant but by not doing, I think this is how they're able to sell their equipment so cheaply.

Apologies I haven't replied to this sooner - haven't been able to devote much time to it over the last few days. They've more or less echoed what you've said and that I need to work with RM to get the traffic not routed through their proxies, which at present is easier said than done. However, cPanel have given me something I can try firing back to RM just to see what they say.

I'll post this here as I feel it's more of a Firewall issue than a Web development issue - but if not, please move it. Has anyone tried setting up (or has running) cPanel behind an RM Proxy/Firewall (supplied by SWGfL)? I have been supplied with an external IP which allows me to access my cPanel installation from the Web - but I don't necessarily need to be able to do this as all I'm trying to do is set it up so it can be accessed internally but fulflll their licensing requirement of having it available to the net. The problem is, I can access it fine using this IP address but it's not the IP the software "sees", and as this IP also dynamically changes this causes the license activation to fail as its not the IP address their licensing portal is expecting to see. If I change the IP on their licensing portal to the one "seen" by the software, it'll activate fine and I can use cPanel fine until the IP changes at which point cPanel drops back to 'Trial Mode'. The person at RM I've been conversing with seems adamant that these changing IPs are Proxy Server IPs and that I should be using my original supplied IP, but it doesn't work this way at all and I'm losing my patience over trying to figure out how to solve this. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be really happy to know.
