  1. Thanks again @psydii. I really appreciate that.
  2. Thanks psydii. How often would you advise doing a test restore?
  3. Hello, We use REDSTOR to backup our SIMS and SIMS Discover databases along with our Document Management Server. Is it possible to do a test restore without overwriting our production data and then to check this restored data is working by logging into these restored databases? I thought we might be able to use DBAttach to attach the restored data with a different name such as SIMSRestoreTest and then log in and check all is well? Does anyone have any experience of doing this or similar and would be happy to share their method or guidance? Thanks.
  4. Hello, Our next academic year currently has a start date of 02/09/2024 and an end date of 01/09/2025. Most students have been setted for the next academic year. Can I now edit these dates to 01/09/2024 to 31/08/2025 without losing any data? Kind regards Mark
  5. Thanks Bob. That's a good call. I see I can use admission number or UPN and I think admission number is the way to go.
  6. Hello, Our head of maths has presented an Excel spreadsheet he wants KS3 teachers to use to enter termly test percentage scores. Then Excel using various formulas, including standard deviation formulas will calculate and average for the test for each year group. This will be used to split the group into 4 quintiles and be compared with their KS2 to highlight which students are below, on or above target. This is to get away form using GCSE predicted grades in KS3 in SIMS Marksheets. I think it might work a little like this school's KS3 system: https://www.philipshigh.co.uk/target-settings/ except the Working Towards/Working At/Working Above/Exceptional grade boundaries will be calculated from the year groups' percentage test scores at the point of data collection on a subject by subject basis. My worry is managing this prcess and importing the needed data into SIMS for the parent reports and termly analysis. I don't think it is possible for a column in a SIMS Marksheet to calculate the standard deviation for a given test and then use this to calculate which students are on, below or above. I'm thinking I will need to learn Excel VBA to streamline this wherever possible. SLT want teachers to just enter the data directly into year group Excel files, and then I will have to import into SIMS for the reports. Can anyone please give their thoughts on this and any advice would be much appreciated? Thanks Mark
  7. Hello, After each termly SIMS upgrade, we have been applying the reindex Patch 22573 to hopefully improve SIMS' performance. Our IT manager says it is not showing in SOLUS 3 despite our Local Authority SIMS support team saying they have released it to our school. Does patch 22573 no longer show in SOLUS3? Must this patch now be applied manually and no longer via SOLUS3? Thanks in advance. Kind regards Mark
  8. Thanks BKGarry. SIMS is saving again as normal, which for us is a little slowly. I think you are right about what happened yesterday. Feeling much better now and will remember what you suggested if it happens again. I really appreciated your replies.
  9. Thanks BKGarry. I'm in panic mode now. I have just tried saving in different areas of SIMS. I made a small change to a student's middle name and that failed to save. We have just set up a new VM Window Server 2019 as a SIMS workstation with the intention of using it for Power BI. It used to be a SIMS test server. Could this be causing a problem? Or what else could be the problem. The SIMS drive has 128GB free.
  10. Hello, I have completed the SIMS summer upgrade and now when I click the narrow columns button on a Marksheet and then click the Save button, SIMS hangs. I have tried a couple of different Marksheets and got the same not saving issue. I've logged a call with our SIMS support but wondered if anyone else is experience this problem? Edit SIMS fails to save any changes. This is scary as staff are preparing for the new year with all teachers back in on Friday. Can anyone please advise? I've updated the logged call with our SIMS support but would appreciate any help. Thanks
  11. Thanks Seb1780. I will submit the census with a note and wait for our LSU to respond to my logged call.
  12. Hello, I have a student with a permanent exclusion start date of 15/03/2023, a Governor Review Date of 18/04/2023 with a Review Result of Exclusion Stands and a Final Governor Review Outcome Date of 18/04/2023 and a Review Result of Exclusion upheld by initial governor review (confirmed). The student was taken off-roll on 16/05/2023. This permanent exclusion is not showing on our detailed Census exclusion report but the LA insists it should be included. When testing, our LSU found that if we edited both 18/04/2023 dates to 09/04/2023, it was included. Our LA checked with the DfE and was told "as the exclusion start date falls within the reporting period (01/08/2022 – 09/04/2023) and it was upheld prior to the census date (18/05/2023), it would be expected to be reported in the summer census." I am on Fileset 2402. Is this a bug with the SIMS Census or is the DfE advice incorrect? I have been unable to find a link to official clear guidance on this. I have logged a call with our LSU but wondered if anyone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks Mark
  13. Thanks @pete and @Linfit. I'll recommend we don't import CTF contacts to my school.
  14. Hello, We have unticked importing contacts when bringing in our primary schools' CTFs into SIMS since 2018 when a bug caused a lot issues. 2018 Edugeek Forum link - SIMS CTF issue Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services We are now getting ready to use Edulink with parents and want to quickly get their details and emails into SIMS and so we are considering re-ticking the import contacts option before importing our primary schools' CTFs. I am very wary of having to manually sort out any contact issues this may cause and hoped people could advise if ticking import contacts was advisable or have any suggestions to help it run smoothly. I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.
  15. Thank you both. The Individual Reports started working again yesterday without any intervention. Perhaps server/network issues but hopefully all alright for now.
  16. Hello, Can anyone please help me with this? I have started to update last year's Y11 Individual Report and when I close the Word Template SIMS hangs and I have to end the task. My colleague gets the same error when she tries it on her PC. We both use Word 2016 and are on the Summer release. This crashing of SIMS occurs on any existing Individual Report we try and even if we create a new Individual Report, then open the Word Template and close it without making an edit. I checked Task Manager to see if Word was still open despite appearing to close normally and saw that it was not showing up as still running. I connected to our virtual SIMS Server via MSTC which has Word 2010. Opening any Individual Report's Word Template and closing it worked properly on the Server with Word 2010 but it would be impractical to carry out this work on the Server.
  17. Hello ICT_Pro, Capita came back to my logged call with this solution which works for us. We only set up our KS4 (year's 9 to 11) with earliest marks for AM as we use period 5 for all years for our PM session. "I am contacting you from the Capita SIMS help desk in regards to your query on the way you can set up lesson monitor next year for the different year groups in their bubbles with different registration time formats. You have mentioned in your notes whether it would be possible to use the 'Earliest Marks' setup with the Lesson monitor setup page to achieve the desired result with the set up you have mentioned, I can confirm that this will work.If you set this up for all students at the school for both AM and PM, any students that have a registration mark entered directly into the AM or PM session will count that mark as their session mark and this will not be overwritten by any lesson marks taken later in the day.For the students that don't have a mark entered into their AM or PM session and require the mark to be copied from the next lesson, this will be copied from the lesson following the registration session. This is what I have been advising other schools to do in similar situations. This setting can be changed mid year if needed and it will not cause any issues, when you need to remove this setting simply go into the lesson monitor setup page and untick the 'AM sessions' and 'PM sessions' boxes within the Earliest marks section, panel 4."
  18. Hello, We use Lesson Monitor with years 7 to 11. Is it possible to use Lesson Monitor Setup to allow us to do the following for September 2020? Years 7 and 8 to start at 8.45 and be registered in tutor until 9.00 am getting separate AM session and lesson period 1 marks. Year 9,10 and 11 will start school at 9.10 am and go straight to lesson 1 which is to be used to write to their AM session. Years 7 and 8 will not attend a separate PM registration period but will attend lesson 5 which will be used to write to their PM session. Years 9, 10 and 11 will attend one after lesson at 1:50 pm and then will attend PM registration with their tutors at 2:45 pm. Finally, if this is possible, once it has been set in SIMS can this be changed part way through the year or is it permanent? For 2019/20 we used Lesson Monitor with 5 lessons and a separate AM session but lesson 5 writing back for the PM session. I am just not sure how to have our two bubbles work differently. I am wondering if I have to use Earliest Marks Options but I don't know if this would allow us to setup the scenario we want above. Thanks Mark
  19. Hello, Can anyone recommend or signpost a school behaviour system that would allow teachers to log behaviour incidents that occur out of lesson time around the school and playground on their mobiles that would directly update a central behaviour log that hopefully would write to SIMS instantly? I am aware of the SIMS teacher app that runs on ipad but so far we haven't been able to justify spending on ipads for staff. I've found adding behaviours in SIMS is long-winded and the screens are bloated with fields we wouldn't use. Thank you.
  20. I can't see this 2019 Spring Release awareness regarding CTF imports 28/06/2019 in MyAccount Notificiations but my Local Authority SIMS Support team can. I think this does not show for schools that get their SIMS support through the local authority instead of going directly to Capita for support.
  21. This may be useful to people working on this issue. ICO webpage on the Capita SIMS data breach with quick self assessment on whether to self report to ICO or not. https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/report-a-breach/capita-sims-data-breach/
  22. Hello, I am trying to create an exam entries and results broadsheet Template in SIMS Assessment. I have selected an exams entry aspect but when I try to pick this year's season resultset, June (Summer) 2018, it is missing from the list. I can see previous years' June (Summer) resultsets and the June (Summer) 2019 resultset. I have checked the following is correct: Go to Tools | Performance | Options and check that View Exams and Toggle Global Exams Filter are both ticked. I created a SIMS .net report showing all fields for all Resultsets beginning June (Summer). The field Key Stage (Resultset) under CESThirdPartyFields had the value F for June (Summer) 2018 but the values were empty for all the other Resultsets. I think this F in Key Stage (Resultset) is the cause because I found another exam season resultset that has this F and I can't see it when I try to use it with an aspect in an Assessment Template.I have logged a call but wondered if anyone else has come across this? The only other difference I can spot is that the June (Summer) 2018 season starts on 09/05/2018 instead of 01/05/2018. Can this date be edited without affecting exam entries and results? Thanks.
  23. Thank you both. @ Banjo, yes I'm currently creating an Excel file from an exported Marksheet. It will be maintenance job to manually add new starters. The member of SLT has requested that this data is not shared with other staff.
  24. I'd welcome any thoughts on this SIMS Change Request (CR) 1703-3611476 I have submitted on Capita's website: https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk You can search for the CR under the Customer Service menu or use this tinyurl: https://tinyurl.com/zrrtn4f SIMS support for new Data Protection legislation: - Make embargo functionality available to a SIMS school created Assessment template.I have repeated the request below: I want to create a SIMS Marksheet were only one member of staff can view very sensitive/private data to create a vulnerability index. Currently any staff with Assessment rights can view this data and any staff with access to Student Details can view this data via the side panel Assessment link. I want to create an open ended / permanent embargo, similar to Exams Organiser such that just this one member of SLT can view the data and so keep it private. This will allow us to utilise SIMS to identify vulnerable pupils for interventions early and meet our Data Protection obligations. Please see ICO website and note the coming reform which will apply in the United Kingdom from 25 May 2018. https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-reform/ Webinar: Data protection for the education sector (28-02-2017) https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/news-and-events/events-and-webinars/data-protection-for-the-education-sector-webinar/ Thanks in advance.
