I have been buying HP 1950-48G- POE + Using the 10GB fibre to the core switch. Costs me about £950 for the switch, then another £300 for 2 modules

I also have been having a bad time with Cunninghams. They charge you for absolutely everything! I am pretty sure if you sneezed while there salesmen were there, they would charge you for the "bless you"

I keep thinking about this. But I don't like to have different experiences for staff and students. I would want Windows 10 everywhere or nowhere. With the exception of the IT Support computers!

This is be amazing if it is do-able. Unfortunately i fear it isn't! Myself & the techs always forget to re-install SIMS!

I'v been buying Dell 9030 all in ones! i5, 8GB. £4-500 a piece mind!

We use the SEN laptops, the exam user is just heavily locked down. Has redirected desktop, which has notepad on it. That's it. Nothing else available. Stays on wifi, impero is disabled for the group during exams. Exams office printer is added automatically.

Schoolsbroadband issues - filter 11
Wubbalubbadub replied to tj2419's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'll go on a limb here and say that if it was your own on-site lightspeed, you wouldn't of had any issues.. In fact, i have my own lightspeed unit currently and we didn't have a single blip! That being said! I take your other points! Am expecting a call from someone today to tell me what happened & ill make my decision then. Matt -
Schoolsbroadband issues - filter 11
Wubbalubbadub replied to tj2419's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hey all! I'm due to go live with schools broadband, next Tuesday! If I'm honest in bricking it! I'v convinced SLT that it was a good move.. From RM broadband! But I'v been watching these threads for a while now and from what I can understand Schools broadband are going to shit at the moment... I'v had ex- work colleagues phoning me telling me to find another supplier and quickly! My RM line doesn't de-activate for a while so I do have the option of "jumping ship" as it were!? -
You can do. It's smart enough to know in which order it needs to do the updates. So although you have selected them all, it will update the database first on the server, and when that is done, it moves onto the clients.

Lowest spec for us is; I5, 8GB! 128gb sad

Just to add a note regarding Impero.. Recently nothing but problems! Not sure what has changed there end! But for the past 3 months it has been driving me insane!

In my opinion... Microsoft gone do good then! This day an age, it's time people realise the importance of a secure password! -

The big debate: Should we be moving to Linux in Schools?
Wubbalubbadub replied to Wubbalubbadub's topic in Blue Skies
Hmm ok thanks. Maybe I'm just being ignorant... Never heard of it as an actual thing! -
A debate kicked off in this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/nix/165630-linux-school-help-wanted.html That thread has been left to its original purpose. The discussion can continue here. Over to you MJTayloronline =================================================================== Is this a secondary school? I know this doesn't help... But this surely isn't viable!? A whole school on Linux? 1. It's not a common GUI 2. Recruitment for replacement staff would be allot more expensive / harder to recruit, due to the skills needed to manage it 3. How will you manage the link between office documents and whatever your Linux system would be running? I assume it would be open office? Not all features would be available! 4. Your severely limiting your options to software out there, most software is built for Windows and Mac... Your severely limiting the software you can offer the kids That's just a few I can think of on top of my head, I'm sure there's plenty more!

"if the net dies' as in the whole internet dies? - If this event happens then internal emails are the least of anyones problems! Joking aside, surely the benefit of free exchange & the features O365 gives outweigh the .1% chance of your feed going down?

I'm ashamed to say this! However in all the madness i completely forgot to pickup a badge and a lanyard! :-( Is there any other way i could get one?
-
Yup same as this here! Not even SLT or the head have access to it.

Free Microsoft Certification Testing at BETT 2016
Wubbalubbadub replied to elsiegee40's topic in BETT 2026
I gained my MTA on Thursday! :-) -
Have you thought about seeing if any secondary schools in the areas can help? I'm a network manager at a secondary school, and I have a couple primary schools that phone me up in "oh shit" moments that I sell my time too privately.

powercut every night what can i do
Wubbalubbadub replied to round2it's topic in How do you do....it?
I'd be tempted to shutdown the servers at the end of the day... Until it's resolved. Unless you have apps you critically need up for the evenings/night? -
I was going to take up the trial offered by them, but the automatic signup into a contract puts my guard up, so i declined!
