We did a similar thing 2 years ago. We now have a managed solution where we pay per print. We got Ricoh for our MFDs, and some small black and white printers which are Cannon. We rarely have issues and when we do, we log a call and an engineer usually comes out within a day. This is provided by Home | Systems Technology

We've just asked our staff to enable it on their Google Accounts. Some staff are okay with it but some staff have said they don't want to use their personal phones. For staff that didn't want to use their phones we used our office DDI to turn on 2FA and then gave them a different method of authenticating such as backup codes or an authentication app on their school iPad. Some staff dislike it but it's standard these days with internet banking and other high security services.

You can try resetting the network settings on the iPad: Settings > General > reset > Reset Network Settings.

Great work. The jumping I was talking about previously isn't happening anymore. A couple of things: A few exams have printed with incorrect page numbers. Sometimes it will be 3 pages long but say 3/5 pages in the footer which is confusing the student/invigilator. One time it has said 3/0 pages which is more bizarre. Not sure what is causing this. One student was told to do their mock exam so that 1 section was on one page and the other section was on a separate page but the software doesn't allow page breaks. This isn't major and don't think will be an issue in the real thing.

Hmm. Can you try create a document which has a few pages. Scroll to about the middle of a document and put the writing cursor on a line in the middle of the page (so you have room to scroll up and down). When you click save, the line that the writing cursor is on jumps to the top. If you still can't get it to happen it must be me.

Is there anyway to stop all the text being highlighted when it auto saves? Getting reports saying it's disrupting the students flow if they see a flash on the screen.

Thanks for this. I still have the issue of when the document manually saves or autosaves, the cursor is in the correct position but it will jump that line of text to the top of the pad. Not to the beginning but if there is a scroll wheel, it will jump to the top. I've added some photos to try and explain. Which ever line the cursor is on, that line will jump to the top. Not major issue but a student has brought it up.

We've also noticed that when it autosaves (I think it's the autosave) it moves the screen/scroll wheel so that the typing cursor is at the top of the screen pad. This is confusing some of our students.

We're currently using this for our mocks and is going well so far. I think I have found one small bug. Our extra timers are told to change their font to bold when they go into extra time. If we want to open the ExamWritePad file to re-print, it seems to open up okay and all the font formatting is correct. But as soon as we hit print, it converts everything back to normal. The only way round this I've found is to open the file, save the file again (saving with the same name works) and then print. Hope this makes sense.

You'll probably have to reset them all as they sound like they've cached some settings. The best way to bulk reset is to use Apple Configurator 2 on a MAC. You can plug in as many as you can and reset them all at once. This is a good time to have a charging station or some sort of sync unit.

We're quite lucky in that we have some playing fields with a nature reserve/forest school at the back. I'm not involved in what goes on up there but it is something we have. We're in the middle of having some eco classrooms being built, so our students can spend the day up there. Casper/Jamf pro has this also. You need to use lost mode and it seems accurate within 20 metres in the few times I've used it. For those that have dropped wifi connection you can trick the ipad into thinking it has an Ethernet connection so that it will get the command to unlock the device: This works most of the time but I have had 1 or 2 cases where this hasn't worked.

I've not done it myself but from what I understand, when you build a new Domain controller you can replicate the DHCP/DNS and other settings from another DC that is still live. As for for vlans, you should be able to setup ip helpers on your core switch/router to point to your DC. This can also depend on how your network is setup etc.

We recently migrated from Hyper-V to VMware and got told not to migrate DC's and instead re-create new DC's.

We use casper and winclone pro. Winclone pro is able to take an image of a prebuilt windows bootcamp partition and you can then use casper to deploy this to the macs. I've not used windows 10 to do it but we did windows 7 in the summer holidays. We did find we had to turn off System Integrity Protection on all the macs before installing windows: How to modify System Integrity Protection in El Capitan | Macworld

JamfPro will also allow you to manage iMacs/MacBooks if you have any of those or think you might have some in the future. A really good feature about Jamf is that they always have new released ready for 0 day release.

I'd like to join the webinar. Might be some useful information. We decided not to go for early access on Team Drive as the agreement said that documents held in team drive may not be protected by the data protection laws.

We decided to use managed apple ID's this year for our new students. It's been a painless process. The only work we now have to do is buy licenses for free apps to assign to the students so they can download them.

This comes up all the time. The answer by google is the user does get permissions to the folder but the folder doesn't get added automatically. Googles answer to this is then to use link sharing and send the new user the link and they can add to their drive from there. Edit: You can setuo GAM (https://github.com/jay0lee/GAM/) which can connect directly to Google API's and add items to users drive without them having to do anything.

Everything you have asked for can be done. I'm not sure if the free version of meraki can do it but I'm pretty sure the paid version can. I defiantly know Casper/Jamf pro can do this. The only thing that can't be done is hide the settings app but MDM's have control over most things in the settings app now. You can also hide apps so students can't use them by using the restrictions payload to only allow some apps. Again, this may only be possible in the paid version of Meraki.

This is available under the restrictions payload on configuration profiles you can push out to iPads. In casper it is a tick box called: Allow modifying bluetooth settings (supervised only) Once we're comfortable all students have Bluetooth on we can turn this setting on and the students can't change Bluetooth settings. We have found airplane mode forces bluetooth off but once airplane mode is turned off it works again.

We've got it setup at our place for our senior school and sixth form. Some staff use it and some don't depending on how well they can control their class. We're using casper and seems to work well. We're next going to look at turning on Bluetooth for all the students when we get the chance. There is a config profile which does this but doesn't allow it to be on/off. Just stops them changing what Bluetooth is currently set to. So need to get all students to turn it on and then apply this restriction.

We had an admin account which was used for everything. Over the last couple of years we've been updating our services to use their own account. So we have an account specifically for our backup solution, another service account for ldap connections, another service account for syncing etc. This means we can easily change the password on these accounts and know what it will affect and not everything will break when we do update the password.
