Just had a email about the release of Network monitor. Its been in BETA for a long time, remember looking a while back but i thought it was a forgotten project. Just giving it a try and first impressions are good. Added a switch in and tells me how many devices are on 10mb/100mb/1gb, so will be working out why some devices are only on 10mb later. Server details look really nice too, gives all the normal info, shows all the services ad the memory and cpu allocation. Could be a replacement to FAN. It picks things up so quickly. Just waiting to see if it can pick up our Unifi points. Need to turn on SNMP but dont want all the wireless points to restart.

Yahoo used to do a similar thing. It was brilliant but disappeared. Will have to give it a go. Thanks. I've been listening to kickin country recently.

Having the same issue, just as one finished another the next starts, Have set it to faster backup but it still tries to copy over all 1tb each night.

Only complete two games ever. Battlefield 4 and Harry Potter when i was young Games these days are just boring.

Wasnt hard but takes a while for the backup to take place. Upgraded to a SSD and was a complete waste of time. Disappointed on the small improvements if any.

Do you have Impero or AB Tutor, they have logs. There is a file auditing tool in windows server but you have to turn it on first before it starts logging.

Snap, Weve been forced intto have 8.1 on some windows tablets as they wont do 7. What a nightmare they are, weve split of the profiles so 7 and 8.1 arnt sharing and done a few other tricks but they are so slow logging in. Never delete the profiles as well so if doesnt have to recreate. Cant seee it changing as it never did with 8.1, surely they know about the login time. Win 7 was slower than xp but still ok but 8/8.1 was unacceptable. Ive got staff moaning that some old machines take a minute to login in windows 7.

Like your work Valyyn! Ive seen them before somewhere, think it was when you added the moving snow over the bottom one a while back. Ive got the basic 7 background but manage to make our logo transparent and stick it in the corner. About as far as my skills go in graphics.

i say minimum of i3 for every situation these days. They are so cheap that you might as well and they will last a good number of years. I say SSD's are a must in new machines, everything is so much quicker to load. 120GB minimum, no data is stored on our drives and we have 60GB left on our 120s. No profiles are ever deleted on them. We dont have anything better than i3s for any of our workstations. Even mine is i3 and ive never felt as though i needed more. Only reason our new ones will be i5 is that they are refurbs. 3 years warranty is what your after especially on refurbs.

Need to start forcing encryption on any USB drives in the school. The problem is that we have cameras too which wont support encrypted drives. Has anyone here forced the use of encrypted drives in GPO but found a work around for camera memory cards? Cheers. Dan edit: Just thought, the lock only stops writing to non encrypted drives so camera cards should only need to be read. Hopefully answered my own question. Just need to roll out Win 7 enterprise now. Or may just make them come to me.

Set 5gb for students and 20 for staff. Its only really there to make them think about what they are storing. Students are all on less than 1gb except one and only had to increase two or three staff drives. Will increase whenever needed though. Moving up to raided 4tb drives soon instead of 1tb but going to leave the limits the same.

Cheers, downloaded that patch before but it said it wasnt needed. Edit, just looked back and in my panic of trying to get the server back i have downloaded the 32 version. The 64 version has gone though, need to give it a restart later.

Two desktop drives possible 4 in the future. Use for our weekly backups at the mo. Drill out the screw holes and a fancy pattern for the fan to draw the air out the back. Some holes in the front for the cool air. No fans in the rack yet, Only have the two servers so have the air con directed into the front of them. Now ive got a bit of cash im going to try and do a proper job. Such a huge cabinet for the school. Would have been better to have something half the size.

Thanks Dave, Dont think they normally get locked in whilst in use. Waiting to get a response from Penn otherwise the drill could be making a appearance. Need to see if you can get a 120mm or smallerfan that can plug into the mains rather than into a MB.

Probably is the photocopier. The only Sharp printer. Will have to see what driver version we are on. Sharp does keep popping up in my research

Thats my plan if there isnt one . Really tring to sort our server room out this year as ive saves a load of cash elsewhere. About to buy blanking plates for the entire rack and a 4 fan exhaust for the top.
