Thanks Dave. Thats my next thing to do. FSRM to stop the saving of files and SRP to hopefully stop the running. Just need to find a way of setting it for user groups rather than one policy for all.

Not at the server at the mo, Nothing special in there though. Disallowed has a tick in security level (Default) File types has LNK In the enforment bit its set to "All Software files except libraries". Wonder if this is something to do with it. Might change it in our test group.

Have SRP setup and just watched a video on the MSDN site. Ive had SRP setup for students for the past year and whilst watching the video she removed the lnk filter to enable lnk shortcuts to run. Ive checked my SRP out and lnk is still in there but its not actually blocked, i havnt created any addition whitelist rules and the default action is disabled. Any ideas why its not filtered?

Opened up a ticket with Microsoft and when they called it was sort of working. There's been a ongoing proble with the exchange service that they are still working on so could be to do with that. At the minute all attachments are showing as pictures but you can download.

Not another gross thread please but we are just talking about how long you spend in the loo. I tend to get a YouTube playlist ready before going in and tend to be about 15-20 minutes and found out my nephew does the same. After that time you loose all feeling in your legs so have to get up. Hi All, Anyone else of office 365 and cannot download attachments? It seems my account can but all users cannot. No changes have been made to the system and ive check that the direct access file permission is selected. Cheers.

Thanks SchoolsBroadband, will have a look into Forticlient. p3t3r - One question i havnt got a answer to yet fromk Sophos is if the UTM box can manage AV updates on the clients and remote running scans etc. At the minute we have the Sophos management console on one of our server but hoping to be able to get rid of this. That's pretty much what we found. Unless you have a beast of a server it's not good. You can get servers with graphics capabilities in them, without it things like movie maker wouldn't even load on ours. SIMS works well on it though, we don't show them the full desktop but use remote app.. There's good and bad points to it which is why I like our combo.. Best of both.

Thanks Hallb15. Just reading about smoothwall. Looks good but its a shame they cant do endpoint protection also. Am considering combining it with a email encryption and AV though from the reviews ive seen.

Hi all, Later this year our current AV contract will expire so im looking around at different packages. Ideally what i would want is to have one box and one management console that could manage a central hardware firewall, enable us to encrypt emails from outlook, and manage desktop AVs. Currently we've got three different systems with three different management software. So far had a look at Sophos UTM and firewall. Looks good at the minute but wondered if anyone else had any other recommendations. Thanks, Dan

Weve kinda gone for both together. When i first arrived everywhere wasw thin client and it ran like . That was because they had 50-60 people logged in at the same time to a single server. It ran maxxed out and i had to regulary block games just because it overloaded the poor thing. Now we have clients which as localz with MSI rollouts with GPO or SCCM its easy to install applications. Having each computer able to do its own computing made so much of a difference. The downside is it relies on the network to transfer files as the user works on them but its very rare they they are working on anything larger than a few mb. Would never go back to full thin clients again. ONe thing i still use is Remote App however. Use this for a couple of programs like SIMS where our LEA wont give us access to solu 3 so its a manual install. This is as far as i would go these days though. Laptops are ok but then we only have about 10 per wireless point so run fine. Not as quick as desktops connected with a wire but usable. All of our admin machines and teacher machine where possible are desktops and physically plugged in as it does give a better service.

Found a picture a few weeks back of a computers someone had put inside a wall display. It allowed you to see all the components whilst the computer was actually working. Remember it had blue fans. Anyone save a pic of it as i cant find it again. Think it was on reddit. Cheers.

Sorry TechSupp, havnt been as active as i normaly am on here. Takes a whole backup of the D drive except the profile folder. Only copies altered files which make it quick (/MIR). The R:1 & W:1 are for when it hits a access denied file like the recycle bin, forces it to only retry once. There is a option to enter backup mode to back these files up but i havnt found a need yet to backup the recycle bins and was worried it would change the backup time on the files which would affect windows backup. /nfl.. is the logging options so it doesnt log every file its copied, just the errors like access denied files. There is a way to backup files to a dated folder with just the changes. So you have your full backup and then each day you would backup into a new folder with the days date on and just get robocopy to copy these files. This was good as you can go back to each days changes but if a file was deleted you would have to go through each days folder 1 day at a time to find out the last time it was saved.

Its the backup drive size that counts if i remember right and not thee data size. I tried doing the same. What you can do and i think Joanne (Sorry if i got your name wrong) is create a virtual drive on the nas less than 2tb and mount this into windows. Dont have to worry about partitions etc. Or, do what we did and just use robocopy, if your using windows server backup thats not in the scheduler then it wont be a incremental backup anyway. Robocopy has extra features like the /z switch that allows for networks drops so it doesnt fail and leave only haf the stuff backed up.

Have a ext HDD that works perfectly in windows 8, it's still named passport so can't see them reformatting it. When you plug it in, it lights up but you don't get a thing in windows, no installing message or anything in device manager. Disk manager does t show it either. Plugged in my stick and it worked fine. Plugged the HDD into a surface tab and it worked fine. I've updated the USB drivers so there aren't any unknown devices listed. Any ideas?
