Sorry, I meant did you move to your current v of Office just prior to this happening? I ask only because this can cause the problems you mention.
-
Have you recently upgraded Office from 2003 to 2007 or 2010? I've seen this sort of thing when doing just that.

Talk to me about classroom management software...
Gibson335 replied to Oaktech's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Every place is likely to be different, and it really depends on what functions the staff want to use. Impero is a decent piece of software, but it's not cheap - you get what you pay for really. It's certainly not difficult to pick up once you've worked your way through the menu tabs. -
I was wondering how many people used the Windows sleep facility via GP across their network, and if so whether they had encountered problems with either or both Windows Updates applying during sleep or Impero preventing sleep. I'm not talking about using a third-party piece of software, just specifically the GP. I ask because I have heard both of these mentioned as potential issues, and I wanted to check on here before taking anything further. Cheers.

In that case, I suspect they'd have more to worry about than backups :-)

Personally, I think that if your tape safe is in an entirely separate building, then there is little to be gained by removing tapes from site. That's just my personal opinion.
-
In a different place or different building? The critical thing here is how likely is it that a major emergency that took out your server room would also take out your safe? Well, in the event of an A-Bomb I guess they'd both go, but for fire or flood type emergencies, make sure the safe is physically separated by more than room. I don't happen to have links, no, but if you are removing unencrypted data from site then it's a problem.

We have enough for 3 weeks. Is the safe in the same building as your servers and backup device? If so, then is there any real need to remove tapes from site? If not, can it be moved so that it is? There are also DPA issues for removing data from site, remember.
-
It's usually a question of how much data you want to backup. We have virtual servers which we back up 5 days a week to disk. Three times a week these go across to tape. Weekend tapes go into safe. We need an autoloader, but only because of the amount of data.

We are considering setting up sleep on our stations - is this a genuine problem still does anyone know? We have the latest version. Thanks. -
What to get for Christmas... What is everyone else getting?

Of course, the fact that a child diagnosed with ADHD equates to a nice earner from benefits doesn't enter the equation for some parents. Neither does the fact that a clinical diagnosis abdicates them from responsibility. No parent would seek to make money from their child's poor behaviour. Perish the thought.

Right up there with The Sopranos and The Wire amongst great US TV series'.

I'd say if you can only commit to so few hours, then you'll probably need Server 2012 training before you've reached the end of your study period.

David Cameron preaching austerity from a golden throne.

I was being a bit flippant before. My understanding is that our main debt is to insurance companies, pension funds and overseas investors, the rest being mainly made up of financial instituttions, -

Mainly the Chinese I'd guess. And if you said we're not paying it back you'd get no more, and we can't survive without debt - if we tried then you'd see some REAL austerity! -

As with most things, it is always far easier to suggest from the sidelines than do when you hold the reins of power. The key thing here is striking the right balance between reducing deficit and restricting growth. Not sure how many here are economists, but even they can't agree on the best way forward. It may be considered good business to find money to do something that will increase revenue, but not to find money just to service an increasing debt. There is no concencus from the professionals, so the rest of us are really just guessing and going with a gut feeling that may or may not be fed by our politcial leanings. So far, neither of the two main parties have got it right - Labour said no growth, no jobs, the Tories predicted too much of both. Somewhere in the middle lies reality. Reality seldom wins elections. -
It's a bit of a juggling act. Our students use GoogleApps and GoogleDrive, and they work so much better with Chrome that we've had to make compromises when it comes to Impero.

It's not so much the distance more the time zone changes...they were saying the players were not feeling sharp because of the time difference and the jet lag had spilled over into training sessions.

It's part of the NFL season now to come to Wembley for a few games - there are talks about extending to around 8 per season.

Indeed - a few weeks ago there was a shot of the Headsaying something and a following shot of the response...yet clearly, the first camera position would have been in the exact spot the person he was supposedly speaking to had to have been standing...editing and several takes I think to get a worthwhile show.

It reflects that school as opposed to education in general, but I'm sure we all see things on there that we have seen or know occur where we work. I can't quite cope with the ethos one member of staff took that it was OK to swear at him but just not outside of their one-to-one in his office...really? That's OK with you if he rants at you and swears as much as he likes? If it helps him vent and stay in school, apparently so. Clearly last night's main study could be good if he was engaged by the topic.
