  1. Yeah, I'm familiar with that little sccm quirk. I find it such a blunt tool having used BCX from Burconix.
  2. Many thanks. That was my assumption, but I'm finding sccm difficult at times so wanted to be sure. Cheers.
  3. Hi Am new to sccm and have a query. I created a device collection, then an application for deployment and that was successful. My question is: If I add more devices to the collection, will they automatically get the application deployed to them or do I have to redeploy or somehow push it again so that the added devices get the application? Thank you in advance.
  4. This is a Framework provider as well...could not believe what I was seeing.
  5. Yeah. They also put in a backup solution which consists entirely of a NAS in the same cabinet as the server/SAN!! 3-2-1 to them means Dusty Bin I think :-(
  6. Have they stated why?
  7. Oh, I have - hence the ridiculous response they issued. I am writing to the Principal listing a number of findings, the main one of which is this matter.
  8. This is my point exactly. In fact, the IP range in question is owned by a dept of the US DoD!!
  9. Hi all Has anyone ever come across a company who put in place an 11.x.x.x IP as the internal range? I have just started contracting for a new school, whose framework providers have done just this. Clearly this is not best practice, and their excuse for doing so is that, because people know full well the scope of internal ranges, this is more secure?!?! I just wondered if any of you have encountered this before, and if so, what, if anything, you did about it. Many thanks.
  10. Our own Firewall went in in November, and we blocked it by default. Despite having informed SLT of the kind of material our new Yr 7 kids might find on there, we were instructed to open it up again. Some people refuse to learn until it all goes pear-shaped.
  11. Just wondering if anyone on here is a Naace member, and if so how beneficial they think it is. Cheers.
  12. Just interested in knowing a couple of things: 1) For those of you who have zero or few IPads, do you intend going down this route? 2) For those of you who already have gone down that route, do you intend restocking once they have reached the end of their natural lifecycle? I ask merely because my impression from what I read is that their time has come and gone, that schools have moved on to other things - either back to laptops or on to Chromebooks, etc. Just wondering whether that was valid or simple heresay. Cheers.
  13. Yes - I've completed this one, and it's not too bad at all.
  14. Unfortunately, they don't need to authorise so will be passed back to SLT. I have a mail trail, so not bothered about being blamed, I just find it hard to grasp.
  15. Sorry for ressurecting this one, but the mind boggles really. A new Firewall and filter system had Pinterest blocked by default. Despite our provider and myself informing SLT that it could be used to find pornographic images, and it being passed to our efafety and protection officer, it was allowed. Done all I can, but really, the T&L dog wagging the child protection tail here.
  16. Their support for this has been woeful. We have tried 4 different versions of the plugin now and none of them will talk to Biostore properly. They ignore mails and dealing with different people all the time just slows everything down. One of the worst support teams I've come across.
  17. Looking forward to attending my first meeting.
  18. +1 for this - best thing we did here.
  19. Yeah, I'd agree on DNS being the first thing to look at.
  20. Sad really...I like to think I do a good job, but it could be so much better if SLT here still didn't regard ICT pretty much as witchcraft. I'm off to try and eke out a living working for myself.
  21. We have a firewall between us and the Principal...everything has to go through LMs...none of which are remotely interested in ICT and shoehorn me in when they can find time...am I frustrated? Yes. Am I leaving? Yes.l
  22. Sounds nice - here the only vision for ICT is...me. Over many years and many line managers I have attempted to set up a working group containing essential people...one got excited about it for all of 5 minutes and decided we'd call it the ICT Strategic Development Group...but coming up with the name clearly exhausted him, as that was the sum of his involvement...
  23. Yes...the NM...but how about the other techs..? A single NM who also does tech work is fine, provided that's all you have...but if you have an NM plus a couple or more techs, do they really imagine they can elevate themselves 'up the value chain' (I bloody hate this sort of languages) and sit around discussing new initiatives..? I think we all know this will invariably lead to job losses.
  24. It does say later that this will allow the on site IT staff to 'move up the value chain to work on improvement and strategic initiatives'...Hmm...I'm sure schools strapped for cash are going to love employing their previously hard-working tech staff to sit about smoking Gauloises, sipping lattes and pontificating...
