I worked at a school who chose to be at the forefront of AAL. Sharing the cost of the laptop with students is the worst part, because you can't stop them doing what they like with it...cue long queues every Monday morning...from what I understand, it really hasn't improved much...laptops in the hands of students equals nightmare for technical support!!

What is the downside to running Office 2007 on Windows XP Pro stations? And are any downsides preferable to installing Vista? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks. We already have the laptops...since 2002, and already using SIMS/Lesson Monitor. The wireless feedback is interesting, because it's what I experienced in the past and I always thought using SIMS/LM across wireless, with in excess of 100 teachers, might be a nightmare.

We use Impero and have found it to be good value. It has one or two issues, but overall it's higholy configurable - despite some vague language when making choices - and the logs and snapshots it keeps are very good. This has proven to be very successful in both deterring some and nailing others.

I've been fighting it off for the past 3 years...our LEA Support Providers still won't even support it - which is actually my main argument against it when dealing with serious enquiries - but with the flakiness you can get with SIMS/LM at times, it doesn't take much to corrupt its data, and I wouldn't like to think of around 100 laptops all sending out data at the same time across wireless...

Have to agree...Stone are usually very good at sending stuff out if you're asking them to...they might want to know that you won't screw things up, so they might not do this for new customers, but we've found them to be excellent either way.

Anyone out there running SIMS and/or Lesson Monitor through a wireless network? If so, how many clients do you have and what do you find the pros and cons to be? Cheers.

We're all entitled to our opinions. I know many people who like it, but just as many who don't. It's not 'amazing' just because it doesn't correspond with your opinion. I could say I'm 'amazed' that anyone would like it, but it's just an opinion. And whilst your staff might be happy not making use of the ribbon, it's the prime reason for having it to one or two of ours. Each to their own...I don't like the look or feel, and certainly can't see any real 'benefit'.

Thanks for that...it may confirm my worst fears. We don't allow roaming profiles, so it seems as if I'm going to have to change that policy if they want the ribbon to maintain its settings. Cheers.

Whilst I wouldn't touch Office 2007 with the proverbial, I may have to deploy it. From what I've read, everyone seems to cream their jeans mainly over the so-called 'ribbon'. My question, therefore, is if the ribbon is customised by a student user, will those changes still be there if they log on to the same station again, or will it return to default?

I need to use this tool to create a list of parent contact e-mail addresses for Exchange, but can it also create Distribution Groups? The idea being that I can bulk import into a mailing group at the same time. Otherwise I may have 1000 contacts which have to be placed manually into a DG. Any thoughts?
