'Only 2007 enterprise likes to be installed on a TS...' This was written in one of the posts above...can anyone tell me why only the Enterprise version is suitable for TS installation? Thanks.

Does anyone know whether the latest version of Open Office is fully compatible with Office 2007? Last update I could find was that it could open the files but could not save as them. Anyone know any different? Thanks.

In our case, we are licensed for 2007 but use 2003 internally and on the TS, so we are covered - but I take your point about 2007, which may make a mess of the whole thing.

Sorry, this was strictl;y about 'policing' use of Office - basically, auditing users regards relevant licensed copies of Office on the connecting device.

That's not strictly accurate. Yes, it has to be licensed per device, and so of course you can still make Office available via TS. The onus is on the school to 'police' it, but that's not to say that you can ever be 100% accurate. The task in hand is to audit our users, and as such we will be seen to be 'policing' it, but I was looking for some info on who had already done this and how.

Having just confirmed licensing with Microsoft on this thorny issue, I was wondering how other people 'police' student use of Office via a TS connection.

Is she potentially logged on somewhere else? Also, before deleting the user account it's always an idea to first delete any relevant profiles - local and redirected to see if that irons out any issues - though this one is an oddity that sounds more like a GP issue. Is she somehow not in the right OU...sometimes a user can be accidentally moved!! Worth checking.

Weird. We have a few hundred Stone machines here and have never had this particular problem, nor do we generally get any real problems with them. Occasional disk failure is taken care of quickly by their support guys, and their stuff now has a 5 year warranty.

Thanks, but I'm trying to avoid anything with exams and an element of home study unless I have no option...really wanting something aimed specifically at a technician for 1 or 2 days, just as a kick-start beyond the basics. Used to have them, but I can't find anything like them now. Cheers anyway.

Does anyone know of any courses for technicians that are aimed somewhere between basic and a full-blows A+. One of the technicians here would like something along those lines, but I'm finding it difficult to find something that's sort of short and sharp and to the point. Cheers.

Presumably you have one disk as your redundant one, so your data should be fine. The disk that used to show no activity should now show plenty. Do you have hot swap disks? If so, you just replace the faulty disk. On the server, if you have a faulty disk its disk active light should be either red, not blinking, or off - depends on server. Even if you have to rebuild the RAID array, the fact that you have RAID 5 should protect your data.

Little Miss...it really depends on what you want to do with the Intranet...you could simply go back to the old-fashioned way and just have IE default to the index page of your Intranet, storing all the web pages in a folder on the server...once inside the site it will work just fine...but it does depend on how far you intend to take it.

We don't allow them to. Mail a request with username and we reset to 'pass'. If we're not there at the time...shouldn't have forgotten their password then, should they!

We have around 1500 users. I get approx £100,000 a year to spend on ICT development in the summer - this includes the cost of our 3 year cycle of replacement, which can mean 100 stations and 50+ laptops. When you add staffing, printing, warranties, software maintenance, external support and the Internet, I'd say our ICT costs are at about £200,000.

' Actually, I couldn't disagree more. It's not 'our job' to simply allow them to do whatever they want, without trying to educate them to manage things better. Many of ours have duplicate files, CDs, video files, etc on their dektop because they are too lazy to locate it on the storeage server. In 'managing' this aspect in recent days rather than allowing them to do as they please, I've clawed back 40Gb of valuable space that was being used unnecessarily. Having their own desktop is one thing, allowing them to be populated by huge amounts of files that exist elsewhere is another.

If you were cheeky enough you could simply schedule a task that deleted the Profiles folder every night...perhaps then they'd get the idea. At that point you could then withdraw roaming profiles altogether. Hey...sometimes the network 'just does things like that'.

The fact that it must take ages for them to log on should be enough to educate them not to clog up their desktops. Are these roaming profiles? You can always redirect them to the server if not, which helps out a lot. If they have that size of roaming profile then something is seriously wrong. Get your line manager to discuss it with SMT - let staff help themselves and you.

The first thing I would suggest is to reconsider the entire configuration. Putting Exchange on your PDC is a very bad idea in both theory and, very often, in practice. The two simply aren't meant to go together. Adding SIMS to the mix is another notion that would fill me with dread. If at all possible, load-balance those items on 3 different servers. If you can't, the best advice I can give is to pray long and often.

We're EMBC as well, and to be honest I wasn't aware that WE could control such features. Website access, yes, but words in e-mails? I think that's EMBC themselves I would have thought, and you can request it to be unfiltered. I noticed recently that using xx gets filtered for some 'sexual' reason!!!
