  1. Has anyone noticed a major hit on either/both Broadband bandwidth and/or cabled network having introduced BYOD across the site? Have you found that BYOD has disrupted a stable wi-fi network using devices you provide and have planned for? Has BYOD turned a predictable network into an unpredictable one? In effect, has BYOD caused problems - whether predicted or not. Grateful for any replies - and any PMs if you're reluctant to admit to a horror story on here. Cheers.
  2. Our providers, Burconix, are very good with large or small jobs.
  3. + 1 for Burconix. Been using them since their inception and can't recommend them highly enough.
  4. Sorry, but I lost interest when I read: but if you think about it, that’s like asking us to do two jobs at once. We hardly even have time to do one. Yawn.
  5. 7zip allows you to also save standard zip files with password encryption.
  6. We have a 60 day expiry set. And yes, it can expire when they are away. All they need to do is change it before the holiday - simple. They forget, of course, but we send out reminders.
  7. Is anyone else getting Openhive all over this site? - - - Updated - - - I mean the ANME site!!
  8. There is a positive side to downloading. I have purchased many CDs and DVDs on the basis of downloading music from bands I had never heard of and whose music I would therefore not have purchased. I have done the same when downloading US TV shows - going on to purchase DVDs. That's obviously a minor spin on things, and of course artists and companies lose more than they gain when it comes to downloading, but it can cut both ways at times.
  9. It took me years of badgering to convince my SLT that they had to take software licensing seriously - there remains this belief that because they live inside the education bubble they are somehow exempt.
  10. Isn't Papercut capable of producing a PDF of every print job? Or did I dream that?
  11. It's the old woodworking rule: measure twice, cut once. I advise everyone to read a mail twice before sending, check the recipient twice before sending, also to read a received mail twice before responding...saves a lot of confusion and/or embarrassment. I once sent a mail to a friend saying work was driving me mad and I was on the verge of taking everyone out with an Uzi...only I sent it to my line manager instead :-( I've heeded my own advice ever since.
  12. Deliberate pun? If not, a nice coincidence ;-)
  13. Does anyone know of any software that allows you to schedule activation of user accounts to within the nearest 15 minutes or so? I'm thinking specifically of accounts that we'd like to either activate and deactivate on a schedule, or to have network access on a daily timer, but one that is more configurable than what you get in AD. Cheers.
  14. That's not merely odd...that requires therapy.
  15. PB&J sandwiches are tasty...I also like spread cheese and PB. Mulligatawny and Tomato soup, mixed together in equal proportions, is lip-smacking.
  16. It allows them to use current password until it next needs changing.
  17. Burconix, Nottm-based company, looking for an engineer. Good company with good work ethic and integrity. Job Opportunities - Burconix
  18. Our security is policy driven - policy to say no saving personal data, accompanied by awareness training and audit trail of process...the ICO say this would be regarded favourably??
  19. According to a contact who runs a support provider business, MS are desperately trying to say it has something to do with Anti-Virus...at first they insisted Sophos, but then when they were told it happens with their AV software as well, they were oddly silent...they suggested not having AV on the server for a month!!
  20. 'You zer, you lay zer bricks...'?
  21. I guess run a search for it and then browse to it whilst you're in change icon, but odd that it isn't defaulted.
  22. Do you have an EES agreement? If so then you can get the MS one free.
  23. On the local PC drive you can - but I don't believe you can for a share.
  24. Make sure they haven't added the Zen**** extension - allowing them to bypass everything. I can't type the word because the thread will be filtered out otherwise.
