  1. Could be a host went down taking a bunch of instances with it.
  2. Similar to everyone else. We help with CCTV setup and troubleshooting as it's all IP and runs over our network. If there are any problems we look initially, but normally only to the point of "it's nothing to do with our network" or rebooting it didn't help, before calling vendor support. Site team manage the access, recordings, and all the day-to-day stuff, and external company deal with any actual problems with the system. Doors access, site team manage physical unlocking and keys and any other "local to the door" controls, ICT manage the ID cards and centralised electronic locking/unlocking, with external company to do installations (often with our support for networking and switch config) and deal with any issues that rebooting doesn't fix.
  3. Yeah, students get Teams notification and it will show up in their Teams Assignments app/tab. There is an option to set up weekly "parent/guardian emails" which shows all the assignments that week, but we've had mixed results with this. Mostly because back when we tried it, the SDS config was generally a bit hit and miss. SDS seems much more reliable now, but we have a 3rd party parent app that hooks into Teams to show homework to parents (Bromcom MCAS), so we never looked at it again. TBF, I think the way most parents work, is getting their kids to log on and show them their assignments page.
  4. Teams and assignment manager are fully included in our A1 licenses (I'm surprised you're not using A-series licenses in your schools). It works well for us, the main thing missing is a good way for parents to see what homeworks their kid has.
  5. The "Framework>Staff", "Framework>Staff>Profile", and "Framework>Staff>Leave & Absences" permissions should be the minimum they'll need to see the staff list and add/edit absences. I'd probably either make it in a new roll or add it to their main (receptionist?) roll. (I don't think you can differentiate between non-teaching and teaching staff using roll permissions but you might be able to do something in "Modules>Administration>HR & Performance Management> Access Levels and Permissions").
  6. Isn't Bromcom famously litigious?

    Bromcom Ideas

Mostly request new features. The Bromcom Ideas Portal (https://ideas.bromcomcloud.com/) allows users to post ideas. Then other users can upvote those ideas, with the suggestion that Bromcom might add the feature to their roadmap if it's popular enough.
  8. When using the Bromcom ideas portal, is it better to... A: Upvote the 20 other posts for this idea? B: Make post 21 for the idea? C : Do both? D : Just scream the idea into the void?
  9. I've got one for personal use (and do use at work for note taking). I love it for writing on, and think it's a great device for writing/sketching. I do wind up needing to replace the pen nib every year or so. I don't see why it couldn't be used for staff in school as long as their cloud component passes your DPIA (there's no reason it shouldn't), although I don't think there's any way to manage/monitor/filter them. Personally I think LTT were a bit harsh in the remarkable2 review. This. As much as I love mine, this is the main reason I couldn't ever recommend it for education/business. For the same price a remarkable2 (with pen and basic cover) you could get an iPad Pro, apple pencil and probably a type cover, which will do all the same things as the remarkable, plus web/apps/etc and it's manageable. One of the things I really like about the remarkable is the slight papery texture to the screen, so I don't get that floaty feeling I often get when using an e-pen type stylus on a glass screen, but you can get a "paper texture" screen protector for your iPad pro for about £15 that does the same thing (this I would really recommend if your users are planning to a lot of handwriting/drawing/annotation).
  10. That someone's been able to contact the sender on the details provided speaks to it being legit, but it does read like someone with an axe to grind, or maybe a class action suite in the works. Here, got caught by the spam filters. Although I thought it looked legit enough that I forwarded it on to our DPO (with a warning that it was flagged as spam/phishing).
  11. The SLA response times can be found here https://docs.bromcom.com/knowledge-base/bromcom-support-desk-guide/ (about 3/4 of the way down the page).
  12. and ours has gone splat again. 😓
  13. It's the start of term, so it was expected that Bromcom would grind to a halt.
  14. Check out Barracuda. We don't use it, but they've got some good email protection stuff.
  15. TBH I'd use the 365 admin UI. You can multi-select users and use the manage licenses option at the top, there's even a "replace" option for you. Although I'd just remove the old one and switch to group based licensing to make it easier to manage going forward (if you ever need to do this again).
  16. You can get compatible 250 or 500Gb drives on amazon for £25-30. Have you tried using OS install media format the drive down?
  17. Hang on a minute? Generic network accounts are one thing, but generic MIS accounts? That's a DP/Safeguarding breach wating to happen.
  18. If you're using the same agency, do you not wind up getting the some of the same supply teachers over and over? Could that be arranged? If you're rotating through the same dozen or so supply teachers, then there's no reason they can't have their own account that just needs unlocking when they come in again.
  19. We don't use shared accounts, if they're on contract they get their own account. But we do most cover internally so we don't get many ad-hock supply teachers. In the past, we've had scripts that disable the cover accounts at the end of each day, but it was normally more trouble than it's worth.
  20. Hi, while I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to help out, you know that most of us are in IT Support and don't really have much to do with setting cover.
  21. A couple of ideas here: When we were redoing the repro office I was told that you need at least a 1m clearance gap for the fire escape rout (the path people will take out of the office). Just something to bare in mind.
  22. Because we weren't doing the same with Encarta back in the 1990s...
  23. This brings to mind a time (back in the mid 2000s), I was in final year of university, and chatting with one of the lecturers while she was on the way to, in her words "explain to the first-years why you can't put wikipedia in your bibliography". In a few years I can imagine that becoming, why you can't cite google AI. Maybe the counter should be more focus on how to research, and the value of primary sources earlier in schooling. Explain early on that yes AI is alright for quick answers to quick questions, but for research or anything more detailed it's about as reliable as your drunk uncle. Incidentally google's still saying sharks are older than then moon (although it seems a bit confused about it now).
  24. If you need to expand coverage then either a few APs in mesh mode or powerline adapters are probably your best bet.
  25. We've had QUIC blocked for a while (since the last time I had this problem), but not ECH. My reading of this help article suggests that I shouldn't need to block ECH if I've got HTTPS Decrypt and inspect turned on. But blocking ECH does seem to have got it reliably blocking (and it does show cloudflare ech in the logs).
