I think that's the only solution really, just do a "clean" option when resetting windows. I think any other drive would become encrypted once installed, by the firmware.

Well this laptop is giving me a headache. The existing drive can't be erased by the usual means. Seems to be encrypted by Lenovo and secure nvme erase fails (and there's no PSID number). There is no Lenovo Thinkshield erasing option in bios anywhere (AI tells me some enterprises removed it from bios with firmware). And the downloadable Lenovo erasure software doesn't work. Because this model is supposed to have thinkshield in the bios. Hence thought I'd just replace the drive. The ones at scan are 2tb and expensive. Also they only have the M slot. The current drive is B+M. I found one on ebay - same model of drive (hynix). Exactly the same issue! (It probably came from a Lenovo as well). I've been reading around this a bit and either the laptop is encrypting the drives as soon as they are put in the machine, or the drives have the encryption built in - which only Lenovo erasure software will work on apparently. Does anyone know much about this? I could just use the existing drive, but then would have to remove the drive if selling it at some point, if it can't be erased.

Any recommendations for a replacement drive for a Lenovo 11e Yoga 5th generation? Pentium with 8gb ram. It's a small size nvme. I can only see used/refurbished ones for sale. The original is a hynix. HFM128GDHTNG-8510B

Hi. I bought a used ex schools laptop (HP Probook X360 11"). When switched on to set up, it has Windows Education installed and can't get to the desktop because it wants a specific education login. Which obviously I don't have. Can I just clean install windows onto this instead? And if so will it still activate? Thanks.

Have a query about the imaging software used with the Fizzbook Spins - I have found it way better than the Windows 7 System images and it restores easily - does anyone know which imaging software is used? It would be useful to use on another laptop.

Thanks I should have tried that. As it is - although Windows 10 seemed to be running well, none of the games were running properly. So I gave up and have reinstalled Windows 7 from the image made by the built in Restore program - and now have all the updates to do (it wouldn't take my latest image). The upshot is - Intel say that driver only works for Windows 7 and they aren't making a new one. They seem to be selling their own Windows 10 laptops instead. Still, it's a good little netbook on Windows 7. I wouldn't recommend anyone trying it with Windows 10.

Thanks. Lol I already had a go. It actually works perfectly but with one major issue - no graphics driver for Intel GMA 3600. I then tried a clean install of Windows 10 from the Microsoft download onto usb. It is now preventing me from booting Windows 7 system image to reinstall, so looks like we are stuck with Windows 10 with slightly stretched graphics! Actually it's not all bad. With the Windows 10 upgrade, all the installed software worked and the touch screen worked (not sure if the accelerometer worked). It was just the screen resolution due to the driver. I tried the Windows 7 driver which crashed it and sent it into a loop, so ran zeros over the disk to wipe it and reinstall Windows 7 system image from usb - which it won't do now. So I have clean installed Windows 10, losing all the rubbish software that came in the first place - and the touch screen still works fine. But really it's not much cop without a graphics driver, and from my research Intel are not going to make one. So best to stick with Windows 7 as the GMA 3600 only works with Windows 7 (not Windows 8 or Windows 10). Our little boy will be happy enough with a slightly stretched screen as long as he has access to more games now lol.

Has anyone tried upgrading one to Windows 10? Ours has a new SSD drive in, with the original windows starter upgraded to Windows 7 via purchased download (to keep all the drivers intact). My experience with Windows 10 so far is it works best with a clean install than as an upgrade. But I assume there is still the problem of sourcing all the drivers for a clean install, so was thinking of trying the online upgrade to Windows 10 (I can always reinstall Windows 7 from system image). Just wondered if anyone had tried the Windows 10 upgrade yet and if touch screen worked with it.

Yes that does sound a bit expensive. Thank You!!! Now that is exactly what I needed at the time - and instead of bending the blooming keyboard I could have just flipped it out with a switch! Well never mind. Ours is working fine on Windows 7 with the upgraded SSD although the keyboard is slightly bent at the corners so probably not spashproof any more. Might try upgrading the RAM now. Wearing antistatic wrist band of course. The Fizzbook Spin was only a few months old - brand new but old stock. It was perfect for our six year old and I had set it up with some extra Nessy programs. Our little boy loves it and I think it is much better than a tabet because he gets to learn how Windows computers work and learns to type as well. I am an ex teacher by the way - not a professional techie but have a sideline in restoring old Eee netbooks.

Done it! I started the hard way - taking all the screws out of the back and the screen, but couldn't work out how to get the case open. I was about to give up (googline comes up with nothing) when I changed the google search from Fizzbook Spin to 'Zoostorm - change hard drive' or something like that, and an article came up (see below) - it was a Godsend. Not the same model but similar - in fact all I needed to do was remove the keyboard - not the back or the screen or anything else - just the keyboard, and I did this via the instructions in the article which worked to a tee - removed the keyboard ribbon and the metal plate held down with four screws and under that was the ssd in a big compartment. Great I thought, maybe I can fit a 2.5" hard drive or ssd in there. Took the old SSD out, spent ages googling and searching for the part number - part is obsolete - couldn't find out exactly what it was - MMC? Msata. Came to another blank. Then I noticed the attachment that the SSD had been plugged in - I had a spare 2.5" drive - plugged it in and it fitted - yay! Put the hard drive in a hard drive casing, but couldn't screw the casing in as no screw holes for it - but reckon it'll be fine as keyboard pressing down so it can't fall out. Have now put it all back together and have a 250GB Samsung SSD in the Fizzbook spin - ouch - I had forked out for that to upgrade our laptop but hey I can swap it some time. So now the problem was - SSD failed before I could clone it. I have just booted from the usb stick made as an image back-up with the Fizzbook software when new - and it is loading my last backed up image - fingers crossed this works! YEEEEEESSSSS! It's failed now. Am trying to take it to bits at the moment to get the ssd out. Got the screws off the back but it seems like the screen needs to come off its pod to open the case up. Anyone opened one up please? Don't want to chuck it as paid for Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. I have emailed Zoostorm to find out how to get the software onto a new ssd - I have back ups and recovery discs. Any help gratefully received!
