I am wondering if they just took a export of email addresses out of the Gov.uk get information about schools and sent it to everyone

Hi All, We have been receiving some emails with the subject ICO Ref: IC-417138-V2K5 - Urgent Safeguarding & Data Breach Risk mentioning Exemplar Education. Initially we thought SPAM/Phish however there appears to be nothing malicious in the email or attachment. Has anyone else seen these? Started turning up today.

Thanks, its in the x86 Program Files. Seeing this suggestion got me thinking though... I've used this software called 4GB Patch to patch the Pulsar.exe to allow it to use more RAM. Who knows if it will work, only time will tell! Ill post back if it solved the issue or not. Thanks,

Thanks for you response, we have given them new machines with higher RAM in but I read this from MS website which kind of makes that slightly pointless: Correct me if i am wrong, but isn't Pulsar.exe still a 32bit app meaning it can only address a maximum of 4GB but get problems at 3GB? Could this just be a case of sloppy programming of memory clean up and garbage collection within the program itself? Thanks!

Hi, The server is hosting multiple schools databases and I would have though if it was server related the other schools would all be complaining also. There doesn't seem to be any time pattern to it but there is commonality that both users affected are heavily using the attendance and inTouch parts of Sims.

Ha! As much as I'd like to tell them this is the solution, I cant imagine them being happy with it!

Hi all, I have been battling errors with SIMS for some time now and Capita/ESS haven't been able to solve and they have just given up. I've attached some of the errors, most common is the out of memory exception. This is only happening on the office manager and attendance managers accounts. I have swapped their PC's, re built, re imaged and reinstalled SIMS more times that I can count. This happens regardless of what machine they log into. PC's have 8GB RAM and they rarely go above 60-70% RAM usage and the server has loads of RAM spare also. I don't see its a physical out of RAM error. I wondered if anyone of you have seen this before and I would greatly appreciate the help!

Yeah i have backups, the actual VM is only 3tb in size. I think the only option I have is to take a current backup and restore as it ignores the checkpoints and only takes the current state. there inst enough space on the LUN to expand it any further unfortunately..

Hi there, Thanks for replying. I have run the command and it doesn't show anything. When the machine is rebooted it tries to carry on merging so it knows somewhere there is a checkpoint. I wondered if i export the VM will it "remember" that it was trying to merge then carry on in the new location?

+1 for Altaro. Good product and their support is very good. You get a chat window in the app so you can talk to support directly which is nice. Used Veeam previously but worked out way too expensive for our setup even with the edu discount.

Hi All, I have an production Exchange server that has a 5.8TB (yeah I know!) checkpoint. I deleted the checkpoint in Hyper-V console but it failed to merge due to insufficient disk space. I tried doing a live storage move using the GUI and it successfully copied about half of the data before the Hyper V management service crashed and the VM and host completely locked up requiring a hard power down of the host. I have another disk on the SAN that has enough free space to copy and complete the merge of the checkpoint, but my question is what is the best way to move the storage without interrupting the underlying pending merge as the snapshot no longer shows in hyper v GUI. I don't want to have to manually merge the disks because I cant have the down time and its likely to take forever with those sizes. I have come to accept that I will need to power down the machine in order to move the storage as the live move failed. Before you all say it, I didn't create the checkpoint but I know I should have spotted and dealt with it before it got this out of hand! Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Hi Guys! I have been having an issue with our student users not being able to save in Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2013 and 2016. Me and my colleagues have been battling with this issue for a few weeks now and we literally cannot solve it! The issue is as follows; - Student opens excel and does some work in a new unsaved sheet. - Student presses file > save as then they click browse. The button clicks but nothing happens. No errors no dialog box nothing! If they click the save disk icon at the top of the screen without going through the file menu first the save as dialog opens immediately with no issues and then also the file save as route then begins to work! This is driving me insane as there doesn't appear to be any logical solution and no errors to look into. Please please someone help! Happy to post screenshots or GPO's if needed! Thanks,

I would try using SQL management studio on the server logged in as administrator. When trying to connect to the SQL instance change the authentication to Windows Authentication. This should let you in. If you were to move it (which is a PITA btw) you would need to move the MDF and LDF files for the SQL database along with the sims drive (usually s drive), you would also need to change your local connect.ini to point to the new server. You must also know that if you don't detach the database using DBAttach you will more than likely loose all of the sims users' passwords. I would get around it by stopping the SQL service and copy the MDF and LDF to a new server then attach the db files to the new server. Its worth noting that any DB moves should be really done by capita, but this ins't always viable. Although if you decide to 'go it alone' then you wont get any help from them! The key is don't turn off the old one until you are 100000% it worked out on the new server.

This is much more difficult as Windows 7 onwards prevent user interaction with a service. This makes it kinda impossible to get an application to interface with the logon screen. The only way i can think of doing it is for an application to create an OEM logon background with the hostname saved on the jpg? We use OEM backgrounds here but they are the same on every machine.
