  1. I'm in a similar position and started off looking at VDI rather then desktop replacement. In the end I decided we don't at the moment have the money to throw at VDI and are focusing on some desktop replacement and more investment in the actual infrastructure and are planning to do this over the next 3 years. Once the funds are freed up again, hopefully it should be easier to expand our infrastructure and move out into trialing and implementing VDI. I think VDI is pretty much there, you just need to make sure you have the money to throw at it.
  2. I've been told on the 3 year deal with the 50% discount in the first year, there is no fixed price point for years 2 and 3 so Microsoft could, in theory, raise it to whatever they wanted after that - was also told it's only available for people who don't have an existing EES agreement. Don't know how true that is though. On the 3 year deal when I went through all the details, you are supposed to report your FTE each year, if the FTE increased then you paid the price you agreed + the extra FTE, if the FTE decreased, then you paid the price you agreed but didn't benefit from any reduction in the FTE. As we're currently looking at staffing reductions at the moment, I've carried on doing ours on a 1 year contract.
  3. I might have one, I'll check tomorrow.
  4. Thanks @Duke5A - I did actually manage to compile my own on a virtual machine and got it up and running. I encountered some really weird errors with it though - sometimes the session would start, sometimes the session started on one computer but wouldn't on 3 others I was testing. I do have now though a fully working captive portal with access only on a single vlan! Couldn't have done it without your advice though.
  5. I host on dreamhost also for my personal sites and had a breach somehow in February where all my php files were infected - I'd check the modified date and the top of a few php files for what will likely be a base64 encoded string as well as for a file called r.php. What I ended up doing for my wordpress install was deleteing and reuploading all the files, but for all other files followed the instructions on this page for the cleaner script http://www.php-beginners.com/solve-wordpress-malware-script-attack-fix.html
  6. Called Capita today, the guy I spoke to was sure also that you could in 103 redeploy Solus3 but wasn't 100%. Restarting the Deployment Service on the server seems to have sorted the sorting of the deployment detail screen on our server though which is great news. Got a call open about the redeploy and status screen now though - interesting though the last couple of machines that hadn't updated before the Deployment Service was restarted when they came on line still deployed the update, so that's another added benefit atleast!
  7. Have I imagined these points, or is it just because it's a solus update? 1. I thought that you could redploy Solus 3 updates as well as SIMS/Discover etc? I have no redploy options on the solus update. 2. The Offline machines no longer mark themselves as Successful/failed once they came online, I have to sift through the deployment log to see if any failed or any haven't deployed. 3. It is now completely impossible to sort the deployment log, every heading now produces an object error.
  8. Microsoft Update Catalog has the Windows 8 version in for download Microsoft Update Catalog
  9. News Item 19276 will give you a link if you can see it (It's the only one I can see).
  10. Try Kaspersky Rescue Disk, I've had huge success with it! Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10
  11. I've started trying to push Expression Web and Kompozer, although the uptake is slow. Kompozer obviously free, Expression Web available through Dreamspark (free through our EES Subscription)
  12. Setups folder doesn't get updated with Solus3 so no way to install the latest satellite version from there. I have noticed within Solus3 there is a filter for NovaT, so might come eventually but no way at the moment as far as I know. :/
  13. It didn't make much sense to me either when I was looking for it. It saved having to go through the bottom filing cabinet drawer in the music room that hadn't been opened in 2 years though so I was happy!
  14. I found it on the Sibelius website somewhere about a year ago I think and probably still have a downloaded copy - I'll see if I've still got it. Edit: Actually it's still there. Website: http://www.sibelius.com/helpcenter/upgrades.html - Direct Link for 5.2.5: http://cdn.avid.com/Sibelius/5.2.5/Sibelius525English.exe (3.5GB Mind you!)

    Shock!!!!

Just read my letter again - Moodle, Mahara etc fall under CLEO services.

    Shock!!!!

I've had a letter through saying CLEO services (Broadband, remote access etc) are through One Connect now, everything else remains with Cumbria (So web hosting, email, antivirus, filtering etc) as far as I can remember. Not quite sure where Moodle fits it though....
  17. Hi I've got a PE 2900 which has a perc5/i controller card and 3 SAS Hot swap HDD in it. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to add some SATA HDD's into the same card but as a seperate virtual disk, or do I need to stick with SAS drives? Cheers
  18. Better unapprove just in case (just approved everything before I left tonight....)
  19. It's not the old 100's of folders deep problem is it? If the folder tree is that big, try mapping a network drive halfway down the tree and deleting from there - I can't remember if the usual error is access denied or just an error occured.
  20. Our Solus did those that switched on the following day without an issue (barring the people who had managed to open SIMS before the update had kicked in). Solues 3 seems to be getting better, if only it could kick in quicker then the staff....
  21. I've used Pugh before and get some really good and helpful advice from them. Software I've bought through Capita in the past has come from Pheonix Software (think it was before they bought out ramesys)
  22. We have one template for each year group, previously recreating that template each year but now moving to using the same comment bank and template each year, just updating it. Ours are multiple subjects to one page, the tags which you need to insert are the Open/Close Report Section which will then filters out the subject if there is no comment for that section. I'm not 100% sure if this is the same if you have one subject per page.
  23. I have just been looking into this (ironically) but don't know how accurate my information is yet. If you have a copy of Windows with Software Assurance, you recieve VDA (Virtual Desktop Access) rights automatically as part of that software assurance. If you have a device which is incapable of supporting windows or a device without a valid windows licence, then you must purchase a VDA licence which I believe is on an annual basis. I can't remember what happens with a Windows Licence with no software assurance, I **think** it might grant access rights, but not sure.
  24. I have a couple of Oki C830's here which are used mainly for A3 printing and quite happy with them. One of them had an issue where, for some reason, it would appear as offline to the server yet everything was fully accesible. A tweak to the network settings on the printer (I think it was the network size setting) and not had a problem with it since.
  25. I can't look at our policy at the moment, but I'm pretty sure there's a tick box that says only if local doesn't exist - you haven't got that ticked have you? Alternatively, the PDF printer could be adding/creating it's self after the user has logged on and Group Policy has done it's printer deployment, therefore trumping the gpo settings of default printer? (What PDF printer is it?)
