Well, I think well and truely knackered about sums it up now. Removed it from the domain, stupidly thinking that it would then remove any policies that were causing any issues and let me rejoin it resetting the group policy client (because I think that's what's causing the issue) and now it is stuck on applying computer policy even unplugged from the network. I feel like smashing it to pieces.

Can't see anything in the debug log that would point to anything in specific or obivous failing. Attached the log in case anyone else can spot anything (or would mind taking a look). gpsvc.log.txt

Plugged network cable in, server seems to work ok - tried to logon through remote desktop using the console switch and it's hanging at applying user settings. It's almost as if a service is failing to start for some reson but I can't work out what, where or why and nothing is being logged. :/ Think I might just give up and wipe the damn thing.

Well check disk didn't find anything wrong with it, booted back up normally with the network cable plugged into the integrated card instead of the additional card and the same issue so booting backup disconnected now and will plug the network cable in and see what happens.

Still running a checkdisk atm.

No, I put on Openmanage and used the drivers direct from broadcom because I wanted to team the adapter.

Thanks, It's still running through a chkdsk at the moment to see if that helps. and will then try the integrated nic instead of the pci card and see if that makes any difference (or the otherway round, can't remember which one I'm using atm). It is Dell, it's a poweredge T410.

Right, I'm confused. Network Connections isn't loading up so I can't check the static ip settings (but they shouldn't have changed). When I try and load the Broadcom Management Interface it says it can't load because the Service Manager is locked. I eventually found this Windows Server 2008 computers hang during startup while "applying computer settings" and services configured to start automatically fail to start which seemed to match up but doesn't seem to have made any difference. So although I can logon locally to the machine, I'm not sure where else to go to try and find out when the network is connected it suddenly grinds to a halt and refuses to work.

Just unplugged the network cable and the login screen is available almost instantly after anther hard reboot and has let me login locally without a problem.

I've disabled the policy that was applied (which was why I restarted again) but it's still sat at applying computer settings. I am using mstsc /admin to remote to it (and is where I get the Please wait for the Group Policy Client) Managed to connect remotely to the event log and and all that is out of place is probably critical line: The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (CreateSession).

Hi I'm having a nightmare this morning - my Terminal Sevrer is having a fit this morning and I'm about ready to smash it to pieces. This morning people came to report that they couldn't logon to the Terminal Server, some had got on, a lot were stuck on applying policies or even trying to connect so thought I would just restart it. I couldn't logon locally to the server and initiaiting a remote shutdown still hadn't started to shut down after 5 minutes so hard rebooted it. Now it sits on Applying Computer Settings for ages and I can't ping it for about 20 minutes and then I still can't log on to it (when I connect to the admin console remotely it says please wait for the Group Policy Client). I'm still after half an hour unable to logon to the server so have restarted it again. Help point me on how to fix it? please??? No policies were changed yesterday, no new drivers were installed. The only thing that was changed was a new printer policy applied on Wednesday but it's worked fine on Wednesday afternoon and all day yesterday.

Attached image of how I've a report set up which seems to do what your after. Bascially, from the student details under Conduct, there's an option which is Total Achievement Points which seems to be automatically filtered on the current academic year.

Hmmmm, I've just check the computer and it's not showing the option to unlock it so I either imaginged it or somethings changed - sorry. :/ If you want to disable the Fast User Switching option though it's under: Administrative Templates - System - Logon - Hide entry points for Fast User Switching (done from Server 2008 R2)

Hiya When I built the config using the ts-o-matic, after I had built the image I think I had to change this line: NET_FILE_ENABLED=Off #NET_FILE_METHOD=tftp It should be NET_FILE_ENABLED=On NET_FILE_METHOD=tftp I think, even though I didn't tick to include it when I built the final image, it still wouldn't boot from the network without changing it.

The other option is to disable the option to switch user through Group Policy - this then reverts to the Windows XP behaviour of logging the user off if the machine is locked (can't remember the exact policy atm though)

Desktop Icon, I agree to an extent, but can understand why it's left off if the machines shared between staff/students for example (false security yes, but hey I'll take anything ). Voted for both anyway

The other way of matching the information up in the CTF to what you've got is to open it (either in IE or notepad) and just confirm what is in the Firstname, Surname and Date of Birth fields (I think those are what it matches on)

Yeah I did post a while ago (went to post and then realised I already had an account) but never got any replies to the problem. Today I've narrowed it down. It doesn't happen with local profiles - everything works fine. Friday I need to see if a brand new roaming profile makes a difference. Atleast it's a little progress, although don't understand why it doesn't happen all the time with Premiere Elements whether photoshop is installed or not if it is (surely, logically it should if it was an issue with the profile!)

I'm busy moving my Photoshop CS5 installs to the same room as we have Premiere Elements 9 installed on. Both work quite happily when installed on seperate machines, however as soon as I install both on a single machine, then Premiere Elements crashes with a Windows Error box before displaying the welcome screen with an error in WS.dll. If I try and launch Premiere Elements directly from the exe then I just a Windows Error box with a fault in the premiere elements exe. It's the same story with Elements organiser, it crashes with a windows error box. If I remove photoshop then everything works fine. I'm assuming it's a plugin or something that photoshop installs and is running in the background, but I can't work out what the hell I need to alter or stop running. I've tried installing photoshop first, then premiere elements, premiere elements and then photoshop. Used the Creative Suite cleanup tool and reinstalled all over again, stopping anything except the essentials need for photoshop installing and each time it just continues to crash. Any hints?

The alternative is to execute the command: change user /install and then when your done installing use change user /execute

Have you tried unticking the "Enable Bidirectional Support" from the port properties of the printer? That helped with the 2600's here.
