Hi all I realise I'm after 2 contradictory things with this, but someone will hopefully be able to help. I need to deploy Google Chrome and want to block students from browsing C drive which I can do by blocking file:// in the Block Access to a list of URLs, however this then blocks them from opening html files from any drive also as it uses file:///. Anyone any hints as to how I can block users from browsing certain drives but still allow them to open html files? I did initially try file:///c:/* but that didn't seem to apply.

Damn, what a stupid thing to provide no way to have it disabled by default! Mad panic and time to update my powershell scripts then I guess!
-
Don't know if anyone else has spotted recently, but clutter is shortly going to be enabled by default in Office 365. I personally don't want it enabled but doesn't look like there is going to be an off by default option. Have voted on the Office 365 Uservoice page, but wondered if anyone else had any advice around Clutter if your using before I go and faff around on the 1st June to try and make sure that it is disabled?

I don't think Veeam works with the free version of ESXi either, but might be wrong on that - not sure whether you are using the free version or the licenced version of vmware.

Hi anyone able to offer me any advice on an ipad problem please? The ipad has apparently been restarting/crashing quite a lot recently, so went and did what was (stupidly) recommended on the apple website and check for updates, download and install. The ipad appears to have crashed during the upgrade as I came back to it with a solid blue screen. Now when I turn it on I get the recovery mode screen. Plugging the ipad in and trying to upgrade or trying to restore all return with the error code 14 and I don't know how else to go forward with it. Anyone able to offer any advice other then throwing it through the nearest window? Thanks

A bad experience with the upgrade once means I always sit and watch the SIMS upgrades go through. Solus 3 and Discover I'm not too worried about and will schedule them for the morning.
-
Actually - it's just twigged Is it still listed in the agents window? If it is, if you click on it in the bottom right you can either remove it and then it will appear in the AD Browse or you can click Reinstall Agent and it will push it back out to the computer for you providing it has the same name.
-
In the top right will be a Domain box, if you click on that you can select your domain and enter your admin username/password. Once you've chosen the domain you can then go back through the AD Browse and it should list your computers.

Not 100% sure. It is listed in the database somewhere but I didn't see/can't remember where. Simplest way which was normally reliable I think is to go to your Upgrade Library, click on Deploy for the version you've just deployed or 3.9 and then scroll down the targets until you come to Solus 3 Database and the current version will be listed there.

Fingers crossed!

Looks similar to our error. I would take a stab at looking in SQL Management Studio at your solus3_deployment_server database under Security -> Users and see if NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM is listed there or not. If it isn't, I would guess adding an account with the login NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM with the login name NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and the schema dbo, memberships db_datareader, db_datawriter, db_owner, db_securityadmin would probably do it. That is how our NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM is configured on the server, however I'm always wary of tinkering with it - I'd be more tempted to log it with Capita in the morning for them to look at it. If you atleast see if it is listed as a login against the database you know whether it's going in the right direction or not. you could also try using the connection string editor for the deployment service to alter it to use SA instead of the local system account. If it was me, I'd leave it and log it in the morning but only because I don't like meddling with databases unless I know what I'm doing or I wrote it.
-
NT Authority\System already had an account when it tried to create one though (it just wasn't called NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM which is what it was looking for) and I chickend out at that point for fear of breaking anything else.

That's the bit with the problem and looks similar to the issue I had after moving Our deployment across to Server2012/SQL 2012. Capita had to make various changes to our setup to correct it, it's something to do with the dbo user not being set to SA or System not having an account called System, I don't remember getting the full reasoning behind it, only an assurance that next time a Solus Update comes out I wouldn't have an issue. Check event viewer and see if you have an error in the application log starting something similar to the following against msiexec: If it is the same issue, a quick fix is to download the Solus 3 packages from SupportNet/My Account and manually run the installer and then push the upgrade out to upgrade the agents.

Opensource or cheaper alternative to Dreamweaver

We went with Serif, Kompozer/Expression Web didn't really take. -
What server spec are you using to run Moodle?
Cache replied to localzuk's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Ours is quite a small VM to be honest with you. 1. I know we've had 60 users runing across both IT rooms and the server didn't seem to skip a beat and I quizzed the teachers after and they said there were no issues. vmWare statistics just reported a bit of RAM pressure so I increased that. 2. 1GB RAM on Ubuntu 3. 2vCPU 4. Not currently, but I'm looking to move across to it. -
[android] ActiveSync alternative for Calendar
Cache replied to Cache's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I only want the calendar, not email and that's what I've done but ActiveSync stops syncing the calendar after a day. This is what's confusing me now - I've added a different mailbox onto the device and that calendar syncs. I've added the users mailbox to my work mobile and that has been syncing ok for the past 2 days too. Doing my head in now. -
Hi all Wonder if someone could help me out, but not sure where to post it really. I want to synchronise a calendar from a users Office 365 Mailbox to their Android phone, but I only want their calendar and nothing else. For some reason, I can do the initial sync for the calendar with ActiveSync but then a day or two later it stops synchronising between the phone and Office 365. If I delete the connection and recreate it, then it will work again for a day or two and then stop. OWA for Android isn't a viable option because that will also pull down the email which for other reasons we do not want to happen. Anyone any ideas as to how to help solve it or provide another option for synchronising the calendar? I'm not really bothered if it means using another app of some description as long as it is only the calendar. Thanks

I never got the reg setting to work properly. My work around, which may or may not help you, was to disable automapping on the shared mailbox for the users who needed it and then configured the Account as a second account in Microsoft Outlook using their username and password. then when they replied to an email the sent item went to the shared mailbox. It also ment that the Shared Mailbox could have it's own address book which delegated users could access too. This is for Office 365, but I'll assume the same would work for Exchange 2013.

I think, but not certain, all you would need to do would be to import the report definitions for the version your using from C:\Program files\SIMS\SIMS .net using Reports -> Import (or similar path, can't remember off the top of my head) and load Assessment manager to import the aspects and templates for that side of things as you would do when you do a SIMS upgrade. Not certain though. Won't you have loads of missing existing linked documents against pupil records?
-
Veeam Essentials you can only licence up to 6 Sockets though I believe, so 8 Hyper-V hosts won't work unless you split into 2 Veeam installs (if you can do that licencing wise, I don't think you can).

[sims] Solus 3 1st time running a SIMS release upgrade
Cache replied to SHimmer45's topic in MIS Systems
Yes there is guidance on supportnet/my account and it's normally sent out by the Customer Service managers as well when the upgrade is released so you could speak to whoever recieves these in your school. They are also attached to the note that's posted on Capita Education Support Services -
Does it call a specific file to run via cmd or is it just passing a command? If it's trying to run a file then all you need to do is find a copy of the file (or the path it's running from) and then allow that to run through AppLocker too. Event Viewer normally provides some really useful info as to to what is allowed/blocked and where it is running from!

3.9 isn't that bad. Yes it's not great but the Spring Update for SIMS and Discover deployed to the majority of computers in under 2 hours when I did it earlier this week. Those which were offline did start installing almost instantly when the computer booted up/connected tot he network. Yes the agents are still a bit finicky, but the Reinstall agent is in 3.9 and works pretty well. Admittedly I haven't tried it after rebuilding a computer, however i have used it for 4 agents which for some reason refused to start or had altered their config to point to localhost for some reason and immediately started installing the Spring update thereafter. I thought that 3.9 was supposed to prompt if a user launched the software and an update was available, but I haven't been able to see that working but atleast it does close all SIMS windows down now automatically in order to do an upgrade. It's been a long long road since I initially installed Solus3 and while yes it still has a lot of improvements to make to be better (adding new computers I agree is still a huge faff) it now does sit happily and need less investment from me. I still wouldn't trust it to do a SIMS upgrade unattended dues to past experience of one going wrong, but i will schedule Discover and Solus3 upgrades to do out of hours as they are "less critical".

Nope no maintenance plans set and no scheduled tasks on the server other then those I can identify (B2B processes, CommandReporter, Discover Transfer, Antivirus scan)
