  1. I got sorted thanks, I wasn't building a new server I needed to restore a backup to a dummy server to compare some data hence the sooner rather then later. Last time I wanted a SIMS installable release, the download link and password were available through Supportnet through the KB (obviously!). Not so any more because that would be too simple so just back off a bit. If the helpdesk had pointed me in the right direction to start off with this post wouldn't exist.
  2. Hi all Is there any chance someone would PM me the link to the latest installable ISO please (Summer 2 2013 according to My Account)? I've put in a request by email as Capita won't process it over the phone, but I could really do with it sooner rather then later. Thanks
  3. I've started to federate from Office 365 to Google Apps but I've not got very far with it other then a couple of test users at the moment. This is what I'm following: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn308591.aspx In terms of emails for the users, everything is currently done through Office 365 so I just switched gmail off. As it hasn't been used in anger however I don't know about any other email issues yet.
  4. I've had this recently with a few computers I've rebuilt. The first one eventually completed after several hours of checking for updates and a couple of reboots, the next couple I installed one of the later version of the Windows Update Agent (I've been using June, but September has just been released): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3050265 or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083324 but what I'm testing on the latest laptop is using wsusoffline to download and install most of the updates but I've not tested properly to see whether it has helped the Windows Update speed issue: WSUS Offline Update - Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection
  5. Mistype?TRANSFORMERS="NotebookONLY" should probably be TRANSFORMS="NotebookONLY"
  6. You are a lifesaver! Did what I needed to in a couple of hours instead of a couple of days of manual input!
  7. Hi All I wonder if anyone knows if it's possible to generate a report out of SIMS which details the following info: Student Name QAN Code Level Exam Result It's effectively what used to be produced as part of the Autumn Census at one point if I remember rightly before things changed (and it may well come back I believe) but to save me either going down Course Manager or going through each individual students exam record in SIMS, anybody know an easier way? I'm sure I've seen something like this outside of the Census though. It's only for Year 12 and 13 students and if level can't come out I can get that from the QAN anyway (it was hopefully just a double check). I can tally some info up from a broadsheet, but even that isn't the easiest thing and is going to take me days of work to do. Thanks
  8. It's unique as far as I can tell (although it's called different things as you've spotted in different parts of the report builder) and does tally up if you export from different parts of SIMS (ie student becoming staff).
  9. I struggled with the GPO (somehow I ended up corrupting the keys, but could never work out what was wrong), so have some sections built into my answer file for WDS, so that might help you do it in MDT? I'll try and remember to take a look Monday for what I did.
  10. I don't think you can have a Not Set for Account Enabled? The account is either enabled or disabled (so True or False) Edit: If you mean does it set the value for msExchHideFromAddressLists if it's not set, then yes because non of our users have it set. Test it with one user first though in it's own OU, if it's an Onsite Exchange box I've no idea what effect it will have.
  11. I don't think that's the issue though, they could leave Exams open even when you disable access to the database can't they? It just won't work (although I may have misunderstood)
  12. I modified a powershell script to do it for disabled users if that's any help? Just needs the AD module and can be run from any server with the module (I don't have an exchange box and run this script from our file server) - whether doing it this way has any negative affect on an exchange server or not I've no idea, but I just set it for syncing to Office 365. Import-Module ActiveDirectory # Get all users in the OU. Get-ADUser -SearchBase "OU=Intake2008OU,OU=StudentOU,DC=domain,DC=name" -Filter {(enabled -eq $false)} | Set-adUser -Replace @{msExchHideFromAddressLists="TRUE"}
  13. @ICTDirect_Dave you know your always on my list and I keep looking at your stock, I just keep checking to make sure I'm covering all options though. @Fazza about 90 of our 8 year old machines have SSD's in them now, there's still about 50 I haven't had the money to sort yet though. - the SSD has been one of the best purchases though.
  14. The Offline machine should refresh to tell you it's succesful, although once it's timed out I can't remember whether it refreshes or not. The failed one won't from memory, although sometimes it depends on the type of failure. I normally find I need to either redeploy or go to the workstation and tell the agent to check for updates and update it that way.
  15. We always use Nova T6 for making changes to the timetable, both staffing and room changes (but we always use a construction dataset not maintenance datasets). When you export back to SIMS make sure that the date is always atleast tomorrow, otherwise you risk losing attenadnce data if classes get removed from today (or worse if you backdate it to the start of term/year).
  16. Well you'll need to map the drive in some way. What you could do is have the local account on the computer with an identical username/password on the domain and then the drive will map without the need for seperate inputting of credentials. Edit: If it's purely for backup, why not look at a robocopy script of some kind to mirro the relevent folders on to the network, or Windows Backup?
  17. Go to the regional control panel and set the format to English United States, ok the window, open it back up again and change it back to English United Kingdom and ok and you should be good to go.
  18. Thanks guys, it's all really useful advice and info! Well aware the buying cheap, buying more often etc and even 6 years would be nice, we're up to 8 on a lot of our desktops now which we've upgraded but we're deciding whether to continue with suites of desktops or move to a more flexible laptop/tablet option, hence all the questions about performance. As far as I'm concerned it will just be web browsing and word processing they'll be used for, nothing much more extensive then that but then again I'm still waiting for staff to come back and tell me what they would prefer and what they want to do.
  19. Don't know to be honest, £150 - £230 seems to be the Atom/Celeron bracket and a quick glance seems £190-£230 is the Pentium bracket - is the Pentium performance much better then the Atom/Celeron type? I'm open to anything, I've just not paid a lot of attention to it recently because of other concerns & priorities.
  20. I don't use the auto extract so don't know, but have you tried a local path to auto extract to rather then a network share?
  21. Thanks for the replys, much appreciated. I'm not looking for huge amounts to be honest, when I've been looking I've just not really come across much under £250 recently but I've only been doing general browsing not huge investigations into it, but the £250 price point doesn't fit in with the budget I have available for the quantity I need if that all makes sense?
  22. Just wondered what peoples thoughts on the Atom and Celeron processors that are floating around in various cheap/£200ish laptops at the moment? I realise they don't compare to I3/I5 but for general laptop trolley type usage do people find them ok? Just trying to decide what route we go.... thanks!
  23. No, the repository is seperate. If you choose to extract the files to a specific directory, the SIMS updates will extract the relevent SIMSAMPARK, SIMSManuals, SIMSSetup files etc. to the directory and I can't remember what discover extracts as.
