The Full Update will have a dependancy on the Database update. So when you run the Full update it will check for dependancies and deploy them if required, it keeps it's self right most of the time. I always just run the Full update.

It would be far from the ideal way of doing it, but you could butcher the way we do our admin account assuming BTLS give you the required access. Our Admin account is a shared mailbox, we then disable the automapping on the account and manually connect the account up to Outlook. By manually adding the account to Outlook, you can access the shared mailbox addressbook from the new email box, having Outlook Automap the account doesn't present this option. If you want the powershell instructions let me know.

Just done 2 schools in 2 days. SIMS client doesn't need to be closed although it does help. Solus3 will now close the client on deployment to the workstation if it is still open for whatever reason (but doesn't do it while it's deploying SQL or anything else for some reason). Not had any issues here although staff now know if they don't and they have issues afterwards that they have a fair bit of grovelling to do because they do feel guilty after pointing out the extra time to come and look and sort it! Only 1 or 2 may forget now to close it.

Ours all go on dvd's too. As you have Office 365, why not try uploading to Onedrive for Business and sending a public link to the moderator to download?

My deployment share has Domain Users and Domain Computers set with read only NTFS permissions and Read Only for Domain computers and modify for Domain users on the share permissions. My account has modify ntfs permissions to allow me to quickly copy packages in.

We don't have a helpdesk currently, it's something I'm trying to phase in though. In answer to your question about the software, the honest answer would be it depends. I try to ask before the summer if there's any software they want for September so that it can be rolled out and ready, if it's something new then a couple of weeks is normally reasonable unless it's a bit of a pig to deploy for some reason. At that point, if it's only for a limited number of machines and I can make it work manually I will, otherwise they'll be told of the problem and given an estimate as to when it might be done by. I think it all comes down to communication (and it needs to be two way) - they can't reasonably expect to give you something tomorrow morning and expect it to be done by lunchtime.

@ALittleFish that is assuming that there aren't several patches that need to be applied to the release and if they are workstation patches then you will need to apply to potentially all machines manually. To migrate Solus3 took me at most 2 hours and then I just left the Solus3 Agents to do their own thing in redirecting to the new server. It wasn't a hardship at all.

Aha, so there isn't any issue having the App on multiple machines then? That was going to be my solution until it appears that Staff need to be done manually - I expected them to be automated too.

Hi Was just curious where everybody installs the MIS:Sync app for ParentPay? In my head, I assumed that I would just install it on the server and schedule an update to parentpay nightly or something like that, however noticed the manual says that it isn't recommended to do a scheduled sync. Hence, asking the question. Do people use the schedule sync and do you install it on the server, or do you install it on an admin machine somewhere? Thanks!

You could setup a very basic Individual Report in SIMS Assessment and then export/save them all out.

I've only ever had a confirmation come through with minus values on it when the reseller placed the order against the wrong agreement so they placed a minus order to cancle the incorrect order and then transferred them to the new agreement. Ours normally takes a week or so for the order to appear in the VLSC and have the totals filter through. The agreement number tends to show within a day.

Yes you can do this, you just follow the Solus3 Migration guide for moving to a new server. Basically you update a couple of configuration strings on the old server to point to the new and the Solus3 agents should redirect automatically to the new. You just need to keep the old server running for a bit longer, if you need to decommission the old one, then you can always update the deployment server from within the Solus3 agent or I guess by editing/scripting an edit of the solus 3 agent configuration file (I've not looked at editing the configuration file). The last ESSUpgradeAgentToolsBeta that I saw a Capita guy using also seemed to have a way of sending an update out to the Agents providing the clients were accessible over the network as well.

The new user added to the group won't recieve a notification as it is basically an email sent out when the calendar is shared. You could forward said invite on to the member of staff yourself or I just did a step by step set of instructions for adding the shared calendar to Outlook / OWA and emailed them round to staff.

I hate computers sometimes. Printing a single page document from Microsoft Word now allows all other documents to print without an extra blank page..... Now to print off the Dilbert comic and pin it up next to all the printers!

I've taken a look at the print drivers and I do have a mixture of PCL5 and PCL 6, however again all of these have been in that state since I setup the server 4 years ago. The paper isn't set to letter (I've checked that more than once on both the printer and the client) and it is purely a blank sheet of paper. My SIMS Marksheet I printed out this morning, produced a blank sheet after the first page, the page numbering goes Page 1 of 2, blank sheet, Page 2 of 2 and papercut reports 3 pages being printed. I've also just checked the papercut settings and the Validate Page Counts box is unticked so the printer is being instructed to print 3 pages somewhere along the line! If you could that'd be great. It's only started happening recently. (People have said the last couple of month, but it's only happened to me in the last week or so, but then again I rarely print things)

Well I can rule out number 1 because papercut recognises that the print job consists of 3 pages for whatever reason, so it could be the driver I suppose. The driver has been working fine for 4 years ago since I commisioned this print server which is very annoying! No newer drivers because of the age of the printers (HP Laserjet 4250, P2015 and CP3505n and it happens on all of them!)

Can anyone help me as this has got me puzzled and I don't know where to begin! Some of our printers have started printing a random additional blank sheet of paper. It's not always but it is bloody annoying! At first I thought it must just be people having a blank page at the end of a document or something like that, however it's happened several times to me today where I have sent a Marksheet to be printed from SIMS which is only 2 pages and in the middle it produced a blank page. Even more puzzling is the fact when I go and look at the papercut print log, it shows that the print job was 3 pages even though it should only have been 2!!!!! Where is this mysterious blank page coming from, can anyone help?!?
