Folders Not Displaying Emails in Outlook Desktop
Cache replied to soveryapt's topic in Cloud Services
Don't know, but does it matter what filter you apply to show them or is it just any filter? Once the filter has been applied, if you move the emails to a different folder do you still need the filter applied to view them? Is it just Outlook that they don't show in or is it OWA as well? -
Change of plan for next week now, so I'm all booked on and looking forward to it!

Lync/Skype for Business - The server is temporarily unavailable
Cache replied to Cache's topic in Cloud Services
Well after spending a day scrtaching my head, finally worked out it was smoothwall blocking it annoyingly and me not realising I had an exemption in for my IP address which is what made it work. -
Hi all Wonder if anyone can help me with this one because it's got me stumped. I've installed the Skype for Business basic client on my machine and everything is hunky dory, I can sign in as any user and it just works. Any other computer in school doesn't work, all I get is The Server is temporarily unavailable. There shouldn't be anything different about my machine other then I put loads of stuff on and take it off for testing purposes, but I can't can't this problem solved. At first I thought it was smoothwall, but I can't sign in to Skype for Business on another machine, so then I thought it might be local admin rights but that doesn't make any difference either. Anyone got anything else I can try and make it work? Thanks

We have Essentials Plus 2 socket bundle which wasn't hugely expensive either and gives us both Veeam Backup and Veeam One

Thanks @SchoolsBroadband, much appreciated!

I'm just going to pipe in here that a primary school I support were migrated to the hosted solution last week and the speed I have been told has been awful ever since. Will find out more details tomorrow.

System Center Endpoint Protection - Separate Download?
Cache replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows Server 2012
When I was experimenting it was an installer on the ISO, but I think that was 2008 - not looked at it again since as I changed tact. -
System Center Endpoint Protection - Separate Download?
Cache replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows Server 2012
It is on mine when I search for System Center 2012 (title appears as System Center 2012 R2 Endpoint Protection) -
ERA is purchased by the DfE centrally now - are you sure you need to buy it seperately? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/copyright-licences-information-for-schools Have a glance through Copyright & Schools: photocopy, scan, screen or broadcast copyright resources in classrooms - simple advice for teachers - it might help.

I used the two commands here, and thought it worked however when sorting a users mailbox the other day discovered they had clutter enabled. Not sure whether it's because they enabled it or because of one of the commands timing out: https://blogs.office.com/2015/05/18/de-cluttering-everyones-inbox/

Thin Clients keep being unplugged
Cache replied to manc_techie's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Yeah which cables? Would cable tieing all the cables to the unit help? This stopped a lot of keyboards moving around classrooms and the obsession with people plugging mice in the front usb port, but might be a slightly different issue? If it's the ethernet cable, you could try a cable tie under the clip on the cable so that it can't be pressed down far enough to unclip and snip it quite close. It's still doable with some fiddling/wiggling of the cable tie but certainly makes it more difficult. -
There was something a while back that SIMSLoad will now check for an upgrade if Solus3 is installed and prevent pulsar being loaded I believe if an upgrade is in progress. Never seen it working myself though and I changed all our shortcuts back to SIMSLoad, but I'm going to change them all back straight to Pulsar again.

Hi all Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction? 2 members of staff have come to me recently to ask if there is something they can have to wander around the classroom with a tablet like device to draw notes on their Smartboard? Realise we can look at things like reflector or just using it as some sort of desktop control device, but wondering if there's something else that I'm missing that we could look at? Smart Symposium was something that jumped to mind but it isn't what I thought it was but anyone any other ideas? Smart Kapp like is something which I think they are trying to get at which they can pass round too. Cheers

In your My documents folder you'll have a folder called My SIMS Documents, try renaming it to My SIMS Documents.old and then closing and reopening SIMS - it is normally a pretty good fix for things like this.

It's my thread that was referenced by @vikpaw and yes I have litterally just done this. You should ensure that your backup is transfering the logins to the database and then when you restore your backup the usernames/passwords should all be the same. If you use the latest full SIMS Installable ISO and then the latest SIMS update ISO corresponding to the version of your server and then run SIMSInst from what is effectively your new Setups folder on your new S drive and tell it to install a new SIMS Client and SIMS Server. Follow SIMSinst through and when it asks about your database, say you will restore one later. Complete the installation and then run DBAttach using the new SA username/password and restore the database backup from your existing server back to it. the only issue I had for some reason (and it might have been to do with the order I did something) was dbattach didn't run correctly at first. Manually rerunning the SIMSSQLApplicationSetup file to reinstall the dbutils fixed that though. Don't forget to alter the DMS location to your new dummy server in the DMS setup part of SIMS (I tend to install DMS but just not restore the files unless I'm looking at something inparticular that requires it).
-
I'm going to try and attend, but don't know whether I'll be able to escape. Seems ages since I was able to last make a meeting.
-
I think it's SIMSSQLApplicationSetup if I remember rightly. If you use SIMSInst and tell it your installing an SQLServer it will install all the needed bits and SQLExpress2012 for you providing you SIMS\Setups directory is up to date.

[sims] Reporting on Behaviour Points over a date range in SIMS.NET
Cache replied to ieuan99's topic in MIS Systems
I built a SIMS analysis report which pulls out the behaviour points over a date range, all staff then need to do is change it from Count to Points and then they have a summary of. We have the same for achievement so that they are able to see that too. I'm not on site at the moment so can't check exactly what I use, but I think the Analysis report might be your quickest solution. Edit: Remote Access is working today so managed to get a screenshot. There is a reason you need the name in twice, I can't remember what it is though. Might be to allow it to produce the analysis table. The output type is just Analysis. the filter on Behaviour for the date is ticked so it can be chosen at Runtime so Staff could pick last week, yesterday, whole year etc. and Filter Students has a Reg Group filter on it. -
While we are in Cumbria, when we moved to Office 365 a couple of years back, I needed to request that 587 was opened across our range to enable sending of mail. Might explain why it's blocked for you to the standard Office 365 address but allowed for the BTLS address

Free motherboards, AIO Chassis and Keyboards - All FOC
Cache replied to Haptic's topic in Our Advertisers
I'm interested in the AIO's too if poss! -
Yep a very helpful lady from Distribution pointed me in that direction so I have it bookmarked for future reference should I need it again. If the KB had pointed me there that would have been fine, but I still don't get why the FMS KB has a download link on it and the SIMS one doesn't. Anyway, feedback was left on how unhelpful the KB was.

Got the details through and interested, not had chance to pursue any further yet though.

S3 doesn't have the 2012 SQL Express installer as far as I'm aware available to extract nor SIMSinst, but I'm prepared to admit that I am wrong. In my head for what i wanted to achieve, which I didn't think was unreasonable was to get an installable ISO to build a new machine up for this data checking process. It's not me doing the data checking, I'm mearly making it available to somebody in an isolated state. If it was just me it would be an isolated VM on the network. Anyway, it's done now and I know how to locate the installers in the future - enough said.
-
Yep, but wanted it isolated from the rest of the network which has all been done now plus it let me test the recovery process.
