We're on Windows 7, I have a Windows 8 machine I can quickly push discover out to to test it but I won't be back where that machine is until Friday. I will test it though as I can't image Discover, one of the newer products, requiring such massive permissions especially if it works that way on 7.

That's different from what I've been told when dealing with the last few leases we had. Taking title of the equipment I was told would make it into a Finance Lease rather than an Operating lease, we could request title be passed to another organisation for a value and that would satisfy the requirement as the school itself would not take legal title. The way in which we did it, with approval, was to negotiate continued indefinite use at the end of the lease term.

You need to be careful you don't convert an operating lease into a financial lease at the end of it too, you can't "buy out" an operating lease to take title as it then becomes a financial lease. There are ways around it, but it all gets a bit murky and you need to be exactly sure what you are doing and specific on the wording.

We definitely don't have to do anything like that to make Discover work. We push it out through Solus 3 and it just works regardless of what local permissions the user has.

My X27's haven't done it but a previous version of the X range did (can't remember which one now). A quick fix without powering off/on again is to either do Auto on the remote or search for the source again. I didn't actually give it a lot of thought and put it down to the cabling rather than the projector as it was old existing cabling which I didn't have a lot of faith in. I can't remember now whether a different powered VGA splitter did the trick in sorting it or between us we just managed to work around and avoid the issue.

Well the mailserver in OSTicket will need to be set to outlook.office365.com using port 587 and it will require a username/password which either needs to be the email address you are sending from or an account with permission to send as that address. Edit: Who is your provider out of interest?

WinFF is my convertor of choice for the last few years! WinFF - Truly Free Video Converter The only catch is if you use Applocker / SRP you'll need to create an allow rule in a temporary folder of the user profile to allow it to create/run the scripts to call ffmpeg. Applocker it's dead easy to do, not had to create an SRP rule for it though.

Yeah, that was what I found for at certain times. It's twigged now though that I just need to tweak the rule to look for the day at the beginning of the time stamp!

Afternoon I've not been asked this before so it's got me a little stumped. A member of staff would like to be alerted if specific people email them out of hours or on a weekend without having to see all other email in their mailbox. I have found a site that describes creating a rule that will forward email on to another address sent at a certain time, however I can't work out the weekend side of things. If I can get a forwarding rule of some description created I could then setup a new mailbox to recieve these and then link that to a device somehow, it's just getting the mail there that's the problem. Can anyone give me any hints?

1. Yes, it will sync these without issue 2. Yes, when configuring it or afterwards you can go back and configure OU filtering on it 3. I believe so, as long as the email address is set in AD in the email field and possibly the proxyaddress, it should recognise it. I can't say for certain as I started our office 365 from DirSync, but I'm sure that's the way it's supposed to work. Any that conflict it should give you an error report for.

Well I'm in the north west, 1 school I work at has them, 1 school hasn't. Emailed the BBC and they can't say when but should be in the next 3 weeks.

Ah it wasn't that one, Dirsync started erroring when trying to sync a certain new users password up, tried to force a resync of everybody and then I broke half the users password sync with errors in the event viewer. Upgrading was my only option at that point!

Try adding your Domain Admin to the Administrator group as well as the Domain Admins group. I've a feeling that User Access Control means that even though you are logged on as a Domain Admin and Domain Admins is a member of the local Administrators group, unless you right click and tell it to run as an administrator the SRP will still apply. If you add the user directly, from memory, then the SRP will be exempt because the user is specifically a member of the group. I might be wrong, but I moved on to AppLocker when I moved everythign over to Windows 7 and it is far simpler and more powerful. For the most part the same SRP policies applied to Staff and Students, the greater fleixibilty with Applocker means that I can still just push out one policy but enable and disable permission to run apps or scripts on a usergroup basis.

Try right clicking and Run As Administrator - it is probably User Access Control blocking it.

I did it one night after school as DirSync developed a bug where it wouldn't sync new users passwords and the only way to fix it was to upgrade so bit the bullet. Was suprisingly easy compared to what I expected, it just did it after answering it's questions.

Have you tried setting the user back as the owner of the profile?

Depending on what the exe does, I've had varying success with MSI Wrapper from Convert EXE to MSI - EXE to MSI Converter If the exe does something like installing C++ Runtime then it doesn't work.

Can you not just use a computer somewhere and then move it to the server once it's set up and you can adjust the necessary ports? Even if you backup restore? The console doesn't need to be running all time unless you have a need for it, I used to just run it on my desktop as and when I needed to make a change.

Yeah it was set up like that, just with a security group rather than an individual user. Have removed the groups and added everybody individually and that seems to have solved the problem for some strange reason!

Hi All I'm wondering if I'm missing a trick here but it's got me puzzled. I've created a shared calendar which we are going to be using for planning purposes, so I've given 2 groups Author permissions over the calendar thinking that they will be able to Create, Edit and Delete their own events but not touch anybody elses. It doesn't seem to be working that way however, users in the groups seem to be able to edit and delete any events that anybody else has created. Am I missing something with the calendar permissions or setup that I need to do on the shared calendar? Any hints would be great!

If it's a scanned PDF, our photocopier has the option to apply a password as it's producing it. Also, when you save as a PDF from Office, in Options there is an option to Encrypt Document with a Password. Don't know if that helps?

I moved them into Site Files as advised (there were about 15 courses that I know of, nobody else has complained yet) and that sorted it.

You could turn off Cached mode so that it doesn't actually download anything, just works directly off the server? (assuming your using Exchange/Office 365)
