struggling with this one: Server 2008 standard - got sims as a TS remote app - worked fine on a single server. got a farm of 3 going now using round robin dns for load balancing using 3 entries for farm1 corresponding to 3 member servers- that works fine. Problem is when staff connect to farm - farm1.wvcc.leics.sch.uk they are getting prompted to put credentials in for the individual server on the farm before remote app will launch. Even if I put credentials in credential manager for individual servers as well as farm1 it will prompt for login. Have ticked do not ask about connections to farm1 after I launch first time. Have configured session broker - all are member of farm and under TS remote app manager - terminal server settings have got clients will connect to Farm1.wvcc.leics.sch.uk and got globalsign wildcard certificate installed. Sims will launch and work ok after credentials entered but what am I missing? - same if on logged on domain or locally on staff laptop. Any help much appreciated have tried everything i can think of, cheers mark

sorry to resurrect old thread - but searching on google led me to edugeek :-) noticed this problem with loads of documents folders appearing alongside home folders after introducing windows 7 machines on network. my current redirection settings are "advanced - specify settings for various user groups" - then have students security group set to "redirect to the users home directory" which worked fine on xp. Have found this on microsoft When you redirect the Documents folder on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer to a network share, the folder name unexpectedly changes back to Documents but still not sure what best settings to put into group policy and also whether I need to modify the desktop.ini files. Can anyone help, cheers Mark

we do not have managed wireless but on our cisco 1130 access points you can setup a SSID to associate with a specific vlan - this will do what you require. On windows 7 clients you can show the characters of a security key so your key would soon be well known. Maybe make it open but then restrict what they get into via your bloxx device.

Edugeek comes up trumps again. For Windows 7 machines alter two computer policies: Allow DNS Suffix Appending to Unqualified Multi-Label Name Queries Enabled Primary DNS Suffix Devolution Enabled I also had problems with local proxy settings not always being picked up - I think I had too many in the default domain level - removed a few and added the right exception in - http://www.web* in this case and now working.

We have had this one - hides everything - think a reinstall is best option.

If you have exchange then it is very quick internally and outlook will popup an alert - but expensive if you do not have it.

Thanks for help with this. NSlookup gives same results on both. Win7 resolves the address ok but pinging gives could not find host - though can ping IP address of server ok. DNS settings same on XP/Win 7. They are setup as A records only. Going to try zones and nicklec's suggestion and update.

Can't find an answer so asking for help - I have host (A) records setup on the dns server - e.g. http://www.webjohnsmith.com which point to an IP address of an internal server running apache - so when an address is typed in on a school machine then it will go to the apache server which will load the right site created by a student. All working fine on XP/server 2003 for last year. On windows 7 machines these dns settings do not work - when you try and ping or browse to the site you get could not find host. You can ping these sites from xp or server 2003 machines but not from win 7 or server 2008 machines. The entries appear on the dns server under forward lookup zones under the domain name under com. What is different in win 7/server 2008 that stops the dns working? Have tried disabling IP6 and all protocols except IP4 also turned off firrewalls but to no avail - if I put the entry in a local hosts file it will work but don't want to do that for all machines. cheers Mark

It's ok - have found support all right - get a reply back pretty quick. Works ok with explorer 9. Integration with sims has been working fine this year - will pull class groups off and create/delete accounts. Also saw live edu integration at bett but not tried it. Not sure whether it is as good as other such as frog/ fronter - would suggets trialling a few.

It is the cable - fixed mine by buying one off ebay - £10 plus £5 postage - took an age to come from hong kong though. Do a search on here - someone posted a guide to replacing them which was useful.

As as been stated there is a lot of competition. If you are not getting interviews then I would get someone to look at your CV and completed application forms to see if there is anything you could improve - sorry not got time to do it myself. Main thing I have found is make sure you match application directly to what they require in job spec - essential and desirables and give practical examples rather than general statements. Most places will score the applications against the specs and select interviewees that way. Good Luck.

Only got a few win 7 machines but on mine that works - have got a group policy object linked to computer OU - in computer part of GP have windows settings - printer connections with path to printers and in user part of GP - preferences - printers - shared printer name (create)

You can take registers on ipod/ipad now with Emerge licence is about £3000 a year plus more for each device though. Not sure whether you can replace laptops with them - printing is an issue though perhaps would be an excuse to stop staff printing millions of pages.

microsoft licensing is a pain to get your head round - might be best to conact a specialist such as phoenix or ramesys - schools agreement are the easiest for schools and are cheaper now based on number of full time staff rather than machines - however you still need an operating licence with the original machine but can then upgrade to windows 7 or whatever with your schools agremment.

I would rather watch over 80's indoor curling myself - about as interesting - though I heard someone did overtake once :-)

make sure everything is running ok after vlans setup for a while before putting acls on. Also procurve manager is useful if you can afford it for HP - probably worth making sure switches are running latest firmware as well.
