I would say go for it. MCSE are probably best qualifications - look at windows 7 and server 2008 - if you only pass one you can say you are a Microsoft Professional! If little money available then get them to buy official MCSE books - pretty cheap from amazon and then just do exam when you are ready - only about £80 and can do in half a day at various centres.

Now doing manual install - copied cd contents to network and can run 30 at once with help of impero. Some rooms have different version of quicktime - this stops firewoks from loading - so more work to uninstall and put latest version. Good luck with your installation

If you have sharepoint you can buy a web part for one off payment of £500 from SalamanderSoft Limited - this will allow users to access their home folders if you have external access to your sharepoint site. Got this working ok here - you can also buy one for access to shared documents.

try a factory reset - using 2 pens - hold clear and reset buttons in - release reset and then release clear - i think - check manual

finally solved - it is the My Sims Documents folder - even deleting contents does not work - rename it to something else - when sims starts up it creates a new one and all works ok. Reason new user account did not work was that I connected it to old home folder. Thanks for help on this - as usual edugeek provides the answer no one else can provide.

update on this - it is connected to sims user account not windows accounts as first thought. When logging in to sims with a different temp sims user account it works ok - still logged on machine as same user. Have tried deleting data from my my sims documents on user home folder but made no difference - still not got a solution yet but user can use temporary account whilst I work on it.

thanks for replies on this - driving me crazy. Going to try several things - look at sophos first and then try monitoring. When this affected a user before I ending up making a new user account and this fixed it permanently for that user - but tried that this morning for diffrenet affected user and no joy.

Can't find an solution to this anywhere so am posting to see if anyone has ideas or has experienced this. A few users - 3 or 4 have trouble in that when they do something such as add a detention or even alter a parents phone number in sims when they click on save to commit the data it can take 1 or 2 minutes or longer to save the data. When i logon the machine with a different account but same sims login it works ok - so it is connected to the user account. Things I have tried to no avail: restarting the sims server deleting local profile and creating new roaming profile on server deleting redirected application data folder on server for that user checking local permissions on the machine Nothing to go on in any event logs. I had this problem a few months ago with one user - ended up creating a totally new account for her and it fixed it but don't want to do that every time - have to get mail across etc. Any help appreciated.

one option is to publish it as a terminal services application if you have server 2008 and then let only staff access it via a web link.

Just to say I have had a new certificate from Ipsca and after following advice updating global and level 1 certs and installed cert update pack then certificate works fine internally and externally so worth it for anyone looking for free certificates.

DB deserves any rewards he gets from edugeek - i don't care if makes a lot of money from it or not - he developed it and it is by the far best resource out there for us - at no cost to us!

In my experience use of external consultants and support can cost schools a fortune and not always provide a good service. Schools should trust and support the in house staff - just look at the innovations and projects done by many edugeek users. That is not to say we don't need to call on expert advice when needed - e.g. I am seeing a server specialist to give advice on virtualisation today.

have had problems with a few sata based servers but never sas ones - they would be better for OS if you can afford it.

Altough i can see the reasoning behind it I could see problems: kids using them to play games/listen to music in lessons kids being mugged kids losing them them getting smashed I would be interested in how many are still working in a years time

We are embc and use smoothwall just for banned students to force them on to a restricted list of sites. The only thing putting me off using smoothwall for whole school is supposed reduction in speed by forcing everyone through the smoothwall box rather than direct to embc's proxy servers. This is according to embc but as anyone experience of this? We have 1500 students so could be an issue.
