We moved a few weeks a go and know one has noticed any difference. Obviously your broadband needs to be pretty good etc. We only have an 80/20 line but still seems ok.

That's the option we went for as well. We used cheaper switches and keep a spare on site.

It took over 24 hours for the Google admin fix to work at my sites.

Yep the school's I work at are all really friendly and I'm happy to advise staff, fix laptops etc etc.

Support for the Freeze button was not part of the original feature set of the MX series interactive displays. Always good to see something that's more expensive than my Meraki kit. If it was Meraki APs for £2800 I could licence all 26 APs for 10 years. Ubuiquiti costs are hard to argue with though.

I'm using the free version of Freshdesk with eight schools. I think the free version is very cut down so a lot simpler than the paid for version. It was really simple to setup and really simple to use and the app is pretty good as well.

Another plus for the MX series is the built in browser (chromium), the ability to pretty much cast any device to it. Also it has built in software for taking notes, drawing etc. I have one setup in a nursery and we have no PC connected they just use the built in browser and cast everything with their Ipads.

Just to add in my own experience we have around 100 smart panels of all shapes and sizes and so far we haven't spent any additional money on them. I'd guess the oldest ones must be four years old now. From a teaching and learning perspective they have been far more reliable than projectors and given staff and me a lot less hassle. They do need the odd bit of tlc but nothing like the time I used to spend on projectors!

Google Chrome is most peoples go to browser now so I'd just roll that out. Plenty help on here and GPOs available etc. We've never looked back, most pupils and staff just naturally switched to it as soon as we deployed it.

All my schools are pretty small and we have agreements at each school. If you just include the staff that work at a computer you can get the count down pretty low to make it cost effective.

" does that read like it supports 32 and 64 for office 2013 but just office 2016, which you would assume would be 32bit? If it supported 32 and 64 bit for both versions wouldn't it read like this "Software — Microsoft Office 2013 and Office 2016 (32-bit and 64-bit)" or "Software — Microsoft Office 2013 (32-bit and 64-bit) and Office 2016 (32-bit and 64-bit)" Just the wording seems open to interpretation.

Yes absolutely re the budget. We're lucky enough we've had various LA building projects and we've managed to wrangle a lot of kit. It also help when the contractors throw all your old APs in a skip ;-) It was an expensive mistake I made sure of it!!!

Those figures are way off it's more like £12-£15 a year.

If the screen hinges can't be easily repaired then that's going to be the expensive part. A new battery will certainly help and the base spec is pretty good. 8gb would be ideal but unless you could pick those up for £10 a laptop it wouldn't be worth the investment. If the laptops were going to run for another 2-3 years then I'd say probably worth spending £30-£40 per laptop to get a new battery and resolve the hinge issues. If the school wanted them to run longer than 5 years they should have invested in something more robust in the first place like a Dell Lattitude etc. I'd consider Samsung more consumer grade devices. Not much help now I appreciate but might help to sway them for your next batch of laptops.

To be honest years a go you could probably be fine letting people have control over their pcs. These days one wrong click can ransomware a whole network. Out of my eight schools the only user that has any admin rights is me. The rest are locked down! If the network is set up properly and software is distributed centrally there really shouldn't be any need for users to have that level of access. It's a modern day recipe for disaster!
